Just curious, did you install these new lifters on an old cam? Or did you replace that as well? I’m in the middle of a top end job on my ‘98 and didn’t know if it was necessary to replace the cam
On this engine I did put a new cam into it however you can leave the old cam in as long as it’s in good shape. If any of the hardening is coming off or it has any damage you will need to replace it. I have a good video on the cam install on this same engine that you should watch. Yes I was. My socket is made by Snap-On so maybe that's why it fit. I agree with you that a 1/4" drive socket would fit better but I don't have a 1/4" drive 1/4" - 12 point socket.
I’ve never had to replace the tappet blocks before on any of my engines. As for the cylinders if I go into the top end of any motor I always have them honed and put rings in them. As for mileage I wouldn’t be surprised if everything would good for 100,000 miles. After an engine has 50,000 I start to worry about the roller bearings on the tappet rollers themselves. On the Shovel and older I have them rebuilt. On Evo and newer I replace the entire tappet. I keep good oil and oil filter on my bikes along with keeping the air filter clean. I have an older video on this. I’ll post it to you later today. I hope this helps and thank you for watching.
@@Rapsgarage Appreciate the insight man, I got a '99 Evo with 28K on it and I'm about to swap out the lifters for Fuelings before the roller bearings on the originals go bad. Keep up the great work 👍
The pushrods are easier to install without the lifters being pumped up. I will prime the engine before I start it. General on the Evo’s the lifters can take up to 15 minutes to pump up even after soaking them.
Wow! I think I paid $20 when I bought them. Good thing I found them on eBay. 4 of them shipped to you is $20. www.ebay.com/itm/235423184227?fits=Make%3AHarley-Davidson&itmmeta=01HS9MKPYB7YT4PGZ5SZD8R0RS&hash=item36d050b563:g:hHAAAOSwcaNlvGGH&itmprp=enc%3AAQAJAAAA8CBX%2FZlkxRnSAenvbX9lSBqE3bl%2FDcMaaXXSLn22jJi%2FMVxff1zw8g0d%2B79k5AddotakzbU4RAimnXoswOlK--v%2Ba4LEg6SwJUfssPKDprofdjvG0QIX%2FjjQdbT016WKOjhE4xTRnMX7w6ZjdkTYoSOFoP0DYlcoFVPQU%2F2NmAQHPE1vuGtLGUvxVJkZvgSGAYJazfN1FeQ6eThrKby1dPE0josj7D3CYH9pE9bij8qDyTs2eMaHlG%2Btu1zLyyHPgB4NJ9EVEThtlex7JRnx5xQ3bZslA9HMhND7iLYV7OOAu6%2BrgusylllOCcm1F2QiSQ%3D%3D%7Ctkp%3ABk9SR6rvzrTKYw
@@RapsgarageThanks for your URL link and info! I went to eBay and took a look. I see that these are cheaper because they are not "Jim's brand". I'm not saying that's a bad thing. I was hoping there was a competitor to "Jims". Again, thanks!!!
