Evolution of DC Comics: "Martian Manhunter" in Cartoons, Shows and movies. (1997-2021)

The Martian Manhunter's powerset is vast and can come off as poorly defined and confusing, I think, due to the large amount of them and them being a bit different in various media. Most superheroes have the same set of powers across the board and are instantly recognisable, but not this guy. There are some standard powers from him which stand out instantly - - Intangibility (phasing) - Telepathy - Shapeshifting - Super strength - Flight - Intense heat has also been shown to be his weakness in various media. It has been said that on rare occasions in the comics, he has displayed some telekinetic ability, though this isn't really considered canon and has never been made to be concrete. He has telekinesis in the show, "Young Justice", which doubles as his flight ability, as do all the Martians in that show, including lead character, Miss Martian. Telekinesis feels so defining of Miss Martian in that show, and ties in so well with the traditional flight ability (like how the DCEU's Wonder Woman has bracelets which traditionally just deflect bullets, but also emit energy that creates an air force to push someone back when clanged together), that I think she and the other Martians should keep that power. However, The Martian Manhunter has displayed his own, Martian heat vision in the comics, and in "Smallville", but not in the "Justice League" and "Young Justice" cartoons, and many animated movies. It feels like it comes out of left field in "Smallville" subsequently, and I don't feel like this power should be made canon in the comics due to this. Furthermore, The Martian Manhunter is vulnerable to heat, so it's very weird that one of his powers is heat vision. Speaking of "Smallville", The Martian Manhunter also seems to be able to heat up his hands, and his handprint is found scorched into a Phantom Zone escapee's back, Aldar, after Aldar is killed by him. This ability is apparently called a "heat blast" according to my research, but it isn't actually a power of his in the comics. This should definitely be gotten rid of too, I think. The red streak The Martian Manhunter leaves behind when he flies is also very strange, not being in the comics as well, and I think it too, should be done away with. The telekinesis Martians display in "Young Justice", I think is really cool and nicely, distinctly different from any of the main Justice League roster's abilities - So many of them can fly i.e. Superman, Wonder Woman, and Green Lantern. I would be very happy if all versions of The Martian Manhunter and Martians are given telekinesis as an ability. It's up to whoever's in charge if this happens, of course, and I would definitely get it if the traditional flight ability was stuck with. My ideal Martian Manhunter powerset would be: - Intangibility (phasing) - Telekinesis (Traditionally, he'd find it far easier to control himself than other objects, and would have to use intense focus to move something. The telekinesis is far less powerful than the "Young Justice" version, not being effortless like his other abilities, and this is why he uses telekinesis sparsely in fights. His shapeshifting allows him the ability to morph into large beasts, a very frequent ability of his used in the "Justice League" animated series, and the power he uses most to fight in hand-to-hand combat situations.) - Telepathy - Shapeshifting - Super strength - Weakness: Intense heat. - I LOVE The Martian Manhunter's trademark love of the snack, "Oreos". *Vital edit and note:* The Martian Manhunter's telekinetic ability is effortless with himself, but not with focusing on another object (one to four small objects or one fairly big object, to be exact) due to the ability originating from inside himself, doing things with this ability outside of his self is more difficult as the telekinesis struggles to travel through his super-strong, impenetrable skin.

I've never liked that The Martian Manhunter is on monitor duty in "Justice League Unlimited", as his massive powerset could be used to help a lot of people. I know he's a recluse and an outsider generally, but it doesn't seem practical to me. If it has to be like this, I think it should be said that the reason he's there, is in case an outside threat manages to find its way into Watchtower, there's a powerful League member situated there, who can take them on e.g. When he fights Task Force X and The Annihilator in "Task Force X".
