Evolution of Marin (1993 - 2024) 

I am unashamed to say that Marin was probably my first major video game crush. A friend in elementary school gave me his copy of _The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening DX_ and the strategy guide when he was finished with it, and even to this day, it's still my favorite Zelda game, all these years later.

She's adorable, but her face on the melee trophy freaks me out

She looked the best in hyrule warriors but her voice def sounded a lot better in the links awakening remake.

Pay attention at 6:58. Marin looks out to sea, almost directly at the screen, and smiles. She's greeting you, the player! The whole meme about Marin being best girl... that's intentional. You're meant to get attached to her just as she gets attached to Link. That's why in the beach scene, she asks "Are you listening to me?" and the player has to answer Yes or No. You know Link can't answer, so you have to answer for him. You're not just providing the physical input for Link, but the emotional input too; he's a true player avatar in Link's Awakening, more so than any other game in the series, and that's why the twist works so damn well.

This comment section was an interesting read. I'll just say... - Malon is based on Marin. It was an intentional reference that developers did. - Marin is the first main female lead in a Zelda game that isn't Zelda. Because Koholint Island doesn't take place in Hyrule. Though she is only referenced with Marin being mistaken for her. Funny enough, Hyrule Warriors also makes a reference with this by having Marin drop Zelda's materials instead. - Promotional artwork depicts her with a harp. I would assume this was changed mid development to just have her sing instead. They never really explained why she was depicted with a harp though. - She is best girl~

I didn't realize all the interactions you could do with Marin in Link's Awakening! LOL, I beat the game on Game Boy, Game Boy Color, Android (yup, a pirated copy), and the Switch; and I always just sent her to the walrus instead of walking her around. Anyways, thanks for the video! I will walk her around when I eventually beat the game yet again!

I really love the new Marin design in the Links Awakening Remake, but i'd be lying if I said I don't wonder how a remake would have looked using her Hyrule Warriors design.

Wow. You're actually missing a lot of stuff with Marin in the original, from the DX cliff cutscene to her waking the Walrus to saving her on the mountain tops (after somehow winding up further than you without a hookshot), and even the digging and if you keep hitting the hens. And yet you still showed me stuff I'd forgotten: the pot and chest thing.

When Link “gets” Marin I know he’s supposed to look up towards the screen but perspective-wise it could seem like something else...

I just want to know how she keeps her hibiscus flower alive so long. I grow hibiscus flowers and they droop minutes after you pick them especially in hot humid tropical weather. Does she replace it like every 2 seconds are these magical dream hibiscus flowers that just don't ever droop. Link should have taken one look at the flower and then been like 'something sketchy is going on'.
