Nu Metal is a subgenre of metal that usually combines elements of funk, hip hop, and various sorts of metal. It skips extreme metal techniques like double bass drumming in favor of a sound that is more focused on rhythm. To bring out these elements even further, some bands include a DJ with turntables in their lineup. The merging of Rap Rock and Rap Metal is most apparent since nu metal frequently features rapped vocals and is similarly aggressive to the other two.

Nu-Metal is my favourite genre of metal and I refuse to be embarrassed about it. It absolutely rips, from the mainstream to the really obscure stuff. And I'm SO glad Kittie was mentioned - they're one of (if not the first) all-female nu-metal bands, and their importance to the genre is usually really downplayed whenever they're mentioned.

The two albums Ultraspank released are two of my favorite albums ever, not just in this genre. I highly recommend anyone who hasn’t heard them give them a listen.

Controversial view but LP isn't nu-metal, just rap rock/alt rock that gets nu-metally sometimes. They mostly use rock riffs and strumming rather than metallic palm muted riffs.

@@JoaoNinguem8420 Nu-metal has nothing to do with rap rock, it's an extension of groove metal and alternative metal, Korn built the sound off Sepultura's riffs as well as taking from Godflesh or Mr Bungle. Also it's not at all a rap metal subgenre, Korn didn't rap. Rap metal was an entirely unrelated genre before nu-metal even came about. Yes nu-metal is often mixed with rap metal or rap rock but rap rock is something else entirely, also LP wasn't even really relevant until 2000 with Hybrid Theory, regardless sonically they're not nu-metal majority of the time, they are using alternative rock instrumentation mostly with sporadic use of metallic riffing at best, and I say this as a fan of them.

Linkin Park didn't even like being called Nu Metal because they thought it was a trendy slang term for new wave of metal but ironically they sold out on their second official following up to Hybrid Theory and Meteora did just that, so they were a trendy band that became the very thing they hated
