The Evolution R185CCSX is a very capable circular saw, which is currently shipped with a 3 piece track. The saw itself is fantastic and will cut virtually anything, the 3 piece track is not so good and in all honesty you really need either the 1.4m or 2.8m track to get the maximum amount of use from this very capable circular saw. The Evolution track saw (Evolution R185CCSX) can easily cut wood, plastics non ferrous metals and even sheet steel, all with the same blade. If you have wood with embedded nails, this saw will cut straight through the lot with ease! Track saws are very useful, so a track saw that can also be used for cutting metal is a really useful piece of kit.

Can the evolution blade be used in other plunge/track saws such a festool or makita? Being able to cut wood, plastic and metal with blade would be helpful. Also is that a new combi drill UH? If so, what model and how are you finding it compared to your others?
@ultimatehandyman
@ultimatehandyman 5 лет назад
I don't think so, because the Evolution saws are high torque. Yes, it's a JCB 18v drill, which I was sent to test out. It's a great drill to be honest, not as good as the AEG 18v drill, but comparable to the Dewalt and better than the Bosch. Thanks for the comment 👍

Its the RPM that's the main issue metals, The Torque on a Festool is more than enough for cutting aluminium and thin steel if you turn the RPM down a bit Festool has a range of 2000 to 5800 rpm, Id have no issue cutting Aluminium with a festool, I'd only cut 2mm thick steel with it. Steel is more demanding I would get a specific Steel cutting saw if I was doing a lot of it.

There is no disputing the cutting capabilities of the Evolution saws, this saw is no exception, but the three piece track supplied with the saw is pretty much useless! Once you have the 1.4M or 2.8M track, this is a superb piece of kit. Please like, share and comment on the video, if you can. I hope everyone has a great Sunday 😉

When assembling the track, they recommend that you tighten the grub screws in a specific order, so separating it is not something that you want to be doing each time you use the track. I tried separating the track at one point and the connecting bars were still in the way. The larger track is much more useable. Thanks for the comment

hi thanks for the video presentation, can i ask you what are the dimensions of the wood beams your using between the saw horses
@ultimatehandyman
@ultimatehandyman 2 года назад
That's a good question, as I recently took these to a job and had some long lengths of 3” * 2” timber (scant). The timber would not fit in the designated holes, then I realised that the last time I used these saw horses, I must have used planed 3” * 2” timber, which is dimensionally smaller than scant! 👍

Great video, I watched it as im looking at buying tracksaw, The evolution track saw does look good. Looks like I'll be getting one and the longer 2 piece 2800mm track. Just a thought while watching this video, would it not have been possible tot cut the worktop using only 2 peices of the track? Handyman, in terms of using the larger track, you aren’t able to clamp that down either from what I can see so can you advise what the difference is between using that one and the smaller one? Thanks
@ultimatehandyman

The smaller track has joining bars, which prevent the clamps from working properly. There are no joining bars in the long track, as it is one single piece of extruded aluminium, so you can use the longer track for virtually any width of material. Thanks for the comment

Thanks for the video. I have an Evolution chop saw with the same sized blade as this machine, which is supposed to cut wood and metal. It does cut metal (in particular, steel) for a while, but I find that metal-use very quickly rips the teeth from the blade, rendering it useless for any material. I’ve been looking for a blade designed for metal but so far no luck. Les

Ultimate Handyman Cutting mild steel (angle, usually), and within the manufacturer’s rating (just). I’ve not tried on galv. Seems strange that should blunt the blade. Thanks for the reply to my comment! Regards, Les
@ultimatehandyman
@ultimatehandyman 5 лет назад
Are you cutting it so that the point of the angle is facing up? You get more cuts that way, as the chips are cleared more easily, obviously you can't cut it that way if you are cutting a mitre cut.? Galv is not good on the Evolution saws, as they struggle with it (not sure why though, as it's only a thin coating)

Yes IMHO the 700mm tracks I have with my Titan saw are much more useful joined than used individually, but for transporting to the job, they come into their own. Protecting the tracks from damage is very important, so that hole you suggested for hanging or securing is something the manufacturers should consider. I store my track in slots directly under the worktop. I’ve yet to find a track saw that prevents the user from the dangerous backward move. I love evolution products but this saw looks a little fragile and I would prefer to have the blade offset to one side like all other tracks saws. Having a blade for multiple materials would be handy in a small shop producing furniture or boats, or for shop-fitters. I suspect that construction workers would prefer the table saw/ chop saw combination.
