a point about the barrage balloons: they were actually the most effective form of anti-air during WWI. Less effective in WWII with the higher altitudes of planes
SPAA only could be possible with mission score target instead of kills then since assists, caps and repairs also count. Survival would be a lot harder tho.
to answer your question in the video: M60s and M46s weren't deployed in Vietnam - the M46 had already been mostly superseded by the M48, while the M60 was seen as too valuable and too new to deploy in Vietnam, and was kept on the border in Europe instead. meanwhile, the ARVN (south vietnamese) made use of shermans and M41s. M46s /were/ used in the korean war, however
By the time of the Vietnam war the Sherman had been phased out. It was used in the war in Indochina in the 50s, but by the time of US involvement it had been replaced so ARVN never used it
@@BDP0408 The ARVN was still using the Sherman while the US was involved and even after it, but it wasn't in the same sorts of numbers that they were at the beginning. They mostly moved to a rear-line / support role, in part because they started to run out of ammunition and spare parts for them (especially after the US pulled out). The M48 and M41 were simply more effective for what the ARVN wanted. The ARVN couldn't really afford to throw out a perfectly good tank (considering who they're fighting) like the Sherman. They had to use all of the assets they had at their disposal, and so they did.
@@BDP0408 the issue with finding images on the sherman is that most of them looked pretty much the same as the american ones from the second world war in vietnamese service. i remember reading in the past that it /was/ used in a supportive capacity, but i don't remember where. i'll see if i can find a proper source and get back to you. but, yes, they were mostly phased out by the time of the vietnam war - just clarifying i'm not meaning to deny that.
Don't know if anyone else has mentioned it or not yet, 90% of the tanks you see driving with their turret facing the rear are players who have set the cruise control on max, pointed themselves at the cap...and tabbed out. For some reason tabbing out of the game turns your turret 180 degrees.
@@PanzerPaw Happens every time I do, even if its just for a few seconds to mute a video or something. When I tab back in my turret is turning back to face the front. If it's a fixed gun TD or something then it will be jacked all the way to the right.
Hmmmm, I think not counting deaths to aircraft as the full penalty, but rather taking a 500pt hit is a smart idea. To my mind at least, a challenge like this is about tank on tank warfare, and being attacked by aircraft just sort of spoils the fun. I'd also consider treating deaths to artillery similar. That said, as trade for these leniencies of the rules, I'd maybe consider having it to where you're not allowed to use artillery or airstrikes either, as to make it truly tank vs tank. I don't think you used artillery or airstrikes in this anyways, but I'm just thinking if you do similar going forward. That's my suggestions anyways.
Pershing did serve in Korea but America replaced it with the Patton line of tanks. M48 and M60 were in Vietnam but the latter wasn't suited for muddy terrain Vietnam had.
Barrage balloons were actually incredibly effective, if you hit the cable, you were pretty much screwed. Plus, big heavy bombers aren't going to be doing lots of ducking and weaving around cables. With that said, I've seen some reports that say they actually downed more friendly aircraft than hostile aircraft, although it should be noted that by and large over any given period there would be more friendly aircraft in our airspace than hostile.... so..... make of it as you will.
The barrage balloons works to a degree as it forces CAS out of action as they increase the flying height by alot which lowers their effective chances for a strike as the lower you go, the more risk you get yourself entangled or cut in half by the steel cables and for high altitude bombers, it too forces them to fly higher which made their aiming worse due to the extra height.
Yea the lightning in the game is a big issue, sometimes you cant even see tanks because of it and it gives a big advantage over the other team, I leave the games asap if i dont have a booster on
maybe next time, for excess points (anything not going up a teir) allows for a certain upgrade or something, so that you arent leaving a waste of points not allocated to something
There is another idea for you, Challenge: Play only on third person view. No binoculars or no sniper mode. No limitations for using zoom on the third person view. And optionally, if you want a little bit more challenging, use the bullets that have less than 750 m/s muzzle velocity.
I bet you get this a thousand times a second. I’ve played with a lot of my subscribers and I’ve played with a lot of my favorite RU-vidrs. You are quickly growing and I’d love to get back into War Thunder but I have nobody to play with. So I’d love to play some rounds with you. If you’d like to just tell me in reply’s.
It's a kind of warning before the shells hit. But they're just too much as they are right now. They tried removing them completely but then you just end up randomly dying to the shells instead. So, it just wasn't really fun either
They used to. But too many tanks were getting it even when they didn't have NVDs/Thermals unlocked. So instead of just unlocking them by default, night maps got removed.
you die -> you reset... it is a weapon in the game and it killed you :P but that opinion just might be me^^ i also prefer to nuzlocke every first playthrough of each new pokemon, before playing it normally :P so i might be a a fan of torturing me xD
CAS doesn't count. If fact, each time you die by CAS Gaijin should send you a bunch of flowers as an apology. Actually, that rule should be general for all players in every WT match. Except CAS players of course... They should be sent a bomb letter.
I'm sorry but I do think CAS kills should reset you. 1. Overhead cover and / or concealment is a thing that should be considered when selecting BP as a former Abrams commander I would get my dick smashed in the field if I didn't find any. By my 1SG and CO 2. Someone could easily avoid Tank death by running and getting purposely killed by aircraft because I'm going to replicate this challenge, and I want a Souls type pain. Look, the more difficult, the less easy it is for someone to copy for their own channel.
I'd agree but the game makes it difficult to avoid. At top tier especially. Early tanks would be too slow to run away, modern tanks face ATGMs that you won't see coming. And I'm not really concerned about someone "copying" the idea. It's not really that original an idea anyway lol. I'd welcome more people to try these kinds of challenges anyway. It's fun! :D
