Colored nostalgic presentation about the former castle bear on the Altenburg in Bamberg. Castle bear Poldi was at the castle from 1952 to 1982. He was probably the last castle bear in Germany.
I met Poldi in 1969 while stationed in Bamberg. Wonderful town & great memories - especially my many visits to Schloß Altenberg & Poldi. Always felt sorry for him in his enclosure.
So traurig 😢
This is AMAZING! I'm a sixty year old woman from Virginia in the US. I am making my 80 year old father a "memory" book for Father's Day. One of the memories is from 1967 when I was six and my dad was stationed (US Army) in Bamberg. I had this weird memory of my 1st grade class taking a field trip to a castle that had a bear. I remembered the bear being in what I thought as an adult must have been a dry moat around the castle. Anyway, I remembered that the thing to do was to throw eggs down to the bear for him to eat. It was such a strange memory that I thought it might have actually been a dream. You can't imagine my pleasure when I started a Google search with only these few, faint details and I ended up here! This is an amazing video and brought such sweet memories. I can't wait to share it with my Dad on Sunday. THANK YOU SO MUCH for taking the time to make and/or post this.
