Ex JW Tells Story of Growing up in the Faith 

You are sweet, brave and strong...even if you don't realize it yet, someday you will. Talking was how I started my own healing. The more you let it all out, the more you will receive the positive confirmations, that what you went through, no child should ever have to go through. I got into JW out of my own volition because a cousin (who has since shunned me) I was very close to, and my aunt (her mother) were in it. So they influenced me into it. I was critical of the idea of not reading the bible unaided by the organization's material, and not questioning the decisions the elders make on our behalf. I felt like a zombie. I was baptized in 2010, just before the generation that shall not pass story changed to something about overlapping generations. I was present during the talk and I could see how confused and bewildered the congregation was. That was the last straw that broke the camel's back. I left that same year. I changed towns and literally went underground. I stopped picking calls from them,...and it has been 6.5 blissful years of rediscovery. I understand there is a new light that inactive JWs are considered apostates and therefore need to be disfellowshiped. I hope they've done that already to me, coz i seriously don't give two hootd about it.

Thank you for sharing your story. You are a brave and beautiful soul. Those dark moments that you may have at times, be sure to tell yourself that you are to be loved, that you are showing someone else that they too can make their own life outside of JWS. Thanks again.

Very brave and protective person- as well as smart- able to think and reason. Hope you continue your education. Children go through so much and then are denied developing abilities to get through life. It is a difficult situation to help/save yourself as well as staying connected to and protecting the ones important to you. Very compassionate person. It is difficult to navigate ourselves through a complicated world while juggling our emotions and hurtful issues.

Very brave of you Kelsey. I understand exactly when you say you feel compelled to watch other ex jdub videos. I do too. There are other excellent and revealing videos of those sharing their own powerfully presented stories. In time you will come to understand why you feel as you do and become truly free. The residual effects seem to take forever to go away. They actually never completely but become quieter, more into the background. I am still working up strength to tell my story.

oh your soo young! you are way ahead of the game, because you were never baptized, have faith in your siblings intellect , they will wake up. It took me 25yrs but I did. The best advice I can give you is love life,

I know your life was not easy but you are so far ahead of the game because you did the research and even tho it wasn't easy you are dealing with the aftermath of being a JW. I'm proud of you for all the positive steps you've made so far and as far as the mistakes you've made, they are opportunities to grow to be a stronger person.

You're really brave. You clearly love your family and have a lot of respect for your mum even though you are learning The Truth About The Truth. Did you know all about the origins of the name Jehovah according to Watchtower's own literature? Raymundus Martini, a Catholic monk invented it. There is no 'J' in Hebrew, so it is not the divine name. It is YHWH, which sounds out as Yahweh. So they are not 'sanctifying' His name. Religion must be a difficult painful thing for you, being as the Bible was used in so many arguments. My eldest son is your age and I see that this could've been him had I not left the meetings when he was almost 6 and my daughter 4 1/2. My husband was a shunned brother who attended meetings and believed in it. I was the non believer and we had a few disagreements, mainly over the shunning and also female subjection idea. But I put my kids through going along with no birthdays, holidays etc after he died for 5 years. This cult has a hold over even the non believing spouses. I can relate to your mum getting anxiety and being protective over you, with all the intentions she has, but I realize now I was wrong to do this to my children. My husband died a week before my son's first birthday and around Fathers Day and my daughter born near Christmas and we were looked after in my parents Catholic home with celebrations going on, so this coupled with guilt over the religious rows we had, drove me back to the meetings. I left it when I saw hypocrisy in the congregation and I took 15 years to deprogram my mind. I had anxiety, so that may be due to what you went through. There is no shame in getting support for that through a mental health team. If someone physically hurts you, we see no problem going for help, its the same when we're mentally or spiritually hurt. Just show your mum you love her and appreciate her concern for you growing up and healing will start for both of you.

Well done, that must have been tough to do.

I hope that someday you can send the relationship you had with your little brother. He was definitely affected by your leaving. It wasn't just your leaving your mom, you left HIM and he always looked up to you. Someday he'll understand.
