From the 'Teacher access only' pack of specimen assessment materials; here I go through Q6 for the new spec.
Biological importance of water, ions and transport across the membrane.
For AQA Students studying the new specification for exams in 2016 onwards.

Sir, doesn't water molecules pass through osmosis as it is small enough?
@MrPollockBiology
@MrPollockBiology 8 лет назад
Due to the hydrophobic fatty acid tails, it is unable to pass through.

For 6.2 would it be okay to put phosphate ion as it combines with ADP in respiration to form ATP which is required for active transport?
@MrPollockBiology
@MrPollockBiology 8 лет назад
Yup, phosphate is fine.

in textbooks it says nothing about water and channel proteins and that it just simply diffuses through the membrane because its small enough :(
@fatimaawow3193
@fatimaawow3193 8 лет назад
+Umar Hussain Water can diffuse through despite being polar as it is small enough but water can also travel through special channel proteins called aquaporins
@MrPollockBiology

The new spec textbook are a little sketchy in places; I think having a marking point for aquaporins is unfair as it's not on your spec. I feel they had to include it because it is technically correct.

Will do; priorities are exams that are sooner...It's coming though!

Hi, so I did this paper and I got 60/75 :( What do you think the grade boundaries would be for this paper?
@jamesdoesVLOGGING

+Zoey M 70% A, 60% B, 50% C (and so on) is a safe bet
@MrPollockBiology

Agreed. Maybe a little lower with it being first year of spec.
