Sorry for not finding your comment sooner, but I hope this helps. Every year, the FAA has an "off the street" bid, where you can apply for a position without prior controlling experience. The only requirements are that you have three years of full-time employment history or educational equivalent, or combination of the two. Any field. After that, if selected, you're invited to take the ATSA (Air Traffic Skills Assessment). If your results on that are favorable, you will recieve a tentative offer, then undergo the security and medical clearance processes, and then if those come out favorable, you will receive a firm offer letter with a training start date. All training begins with a basics class for one month, then ATC training at Mike Moroney Aeronautical Center in Oklahoma City. Then, after that, you're assigned to a facility.
