Yes for the thumb!!!! My priorities, morning kayak, my flower garden, hiking with my dogs, maybe I will working on my now 5 year long project of getting my timber frame finished sometime during the week!!!! Looks like pond will be the focal point with your beautiful cabin as the backdrop.....I like your vision!
Great video once again. Hats off to VINCE and Buckeye Power Sports for all their support. What a great relationship you have, with your dealership. YUP, get a thumb if you can.:)
It's great that you are watching and reading and discussing before just digging enormous holes that will become stagnant, I had an uncle that created the largest mosquito breeding habitat in northern Minnesota.
And 5 years or so it would be nice to see a Look Back video at all the work you have done as you're sitting back reaping the rewards of all your hard work!
A bucket thumb is a force multiplier and you will wonder how you ever lived without one. A strong one made for rock and it will do fine for brush. Another consideration is that it stow flat against the arm so it won't be in the way when you don't need it. My Mom used to tell me "if you want three children, plan for two" and it applies to your pond. Ponds rarely are always full so dig at least a foot deeper than you want the depth of water. You also want to plan for sand under the liner and perhaps pea gravel to cover over the liner. Unless you have a stream fed pond with a constant outflow, dig it deeper. Thanks for another great video. Your progress is showing!
I'm definitely getting a thumb and another bucket, cant wait. Thanks for the advice on the pond, I think I will make sure Ive got some extra depth. I do have a small spring that I plan to feed it from. It's maybe 3/4 gallon per minute, it stops running late June through about now though.
All our excavators have thumbs, they are so handy. It’s a game changer. It would have been handy with the rocks, trees and more. If you’re planning more rocks, I’d get a flat trailer, nothing special. Something just for the property.
Like your philosophy about work. If it seems to be a grind, it's better to let it wait if possible until your heart is in it. Seems like Camarata was born on an excavator. Lol. He is a real gearhead. With experience you'll get there. You are very accomplished in what you do. Best to you and yours!
When you were messing around with that cedar I was thinking, "A thumb would make that easier." It would also help with moving the rocks. If possible, a power thumb. Also, if it's fun it ain't work.
@@50Acres I used to fill underground 5 ton ore cars with some big pieces of rock without a 'thumb' it can be done, but with a thumb it would have been 'way' easier and quicker too!
I was telling my wife about your excavator and how the company you bought it from had been really good to deal with and that you had left their information on the machine so at least they were getting some advertising for it. Well I guess the term "service after the sale" really does mean something to them. I live in Missouri and my wife told me my less than 1/2 acre city lot did not need an excavator, no matter how small. If I lived anywhere near you I am sure if I needed to rent or buy one they would be my first stop. My wife did relent and told me I could have a mini excavator but the only brand I could have was Tonka.
@@PeterLawton They do make fully functional model construction and farming equipment. They're made in Germany and you can buy them as a kit or pre-assembled but these are expensive models since they're fully functional. They cost thousands of dollars. They really do dig and do everything else that real construction and farm equipment does. They even have large get-togethers where they put a big pile of dirt in the middle of a convention hall and bring people with their remote control miniature tractors and trucks and farm implements and they put them to work doing their everyday chores and people come by in the hundreds and watch them operate. Some of those remote control models are big enough to lift an adult person. I saw one video a few years ago where several people got together with the remote control construction equipment and dug out a guy's basement for him. But it was funny to see the little tiny trucks and tractors about 1 to 2 ft long doing all this construction work for real and going up these ramps that were made out of boards to take the dirt outside. Look up RC excavator or RC construction equipment on RU-vid.
You made a very valid point about "mental health". Sometimes with all the work we need to get done, we just need to step back a second and go do something else. Forget about it and enjoy doing something else! Just think of a hot summer evening and you are out in that pool floating on a chair. "Honey, can you bring me some more ice?". What fun! Great video! I enjoyed it a lot.
Thanks bud glad you enjoyed it. I need to pace myself on some of this stuff! Im looking forward to being able to cool off in the pond next summer! As you know that heat can be downright aweful!
@@50Acres They make a motorized pool lounge chair so you only literally have to lift a finger! You should buy one and not tell Sara haha. As they say, marriage is made in heaven. Of course, so is thunder, lightening and hail storms! Men have to be weathermen too! You never know what storm is brewing until it hits!
The cabin is looking awesome! I started my cabin back when I was 18, it’s still a work in progress 😂 just a little trim and siding to finish. I have never showed it on my RU-vid channel mainly because people can be so critical and I do like to keep some aspects of my life off camera. Thanks for posting 👍 you have a awesome excavator there! I’m in the process of trying to buy one, but I’m not sure if I’m going gray market or newer used or new? Like you I never make crazy big purchases like this. Ps you mentioned possibly doing a collaboration, I’m up for it, we just need to figure out a good video idea. Take care
Hey thank you Mike! I know how you feel about not showing it. Even when 99 out of 100 people are super positive, that 1 negative always sticks in your head! It looks like you have plenty of mechanical skills and the shop tools to keep an older machine going so I’d say go for it. I don’t have any place to work, and whenever I do, when I’m done, I’m usually out what I spent on parts plus whatever I tried to fix is still broken. Yea I’m not sure on the collab. I’ll try to think of something creative. I like stuff that fits the flow of the video and doesn’t seem forced.
A Cabin and 50 Acres. Always remember, you are following your dream, the armchair critics are bitter and jealous. Any job or piece of work can be done in many ways, choose the one that works for you and ignore those who second guess you! Only you know your budget, your skill level and what your ultimate goal is, just go for it, so far you've done alright! Btw, I'm a little envious myself😬
I am no expert on excavator operation but a thumb seems like a handy accessory for the type of work you’ve been doing. Instead of a small 4wd dump truck maybe consider a dump trailer. This way you’ve also got something to haul the excavator in when you need to bring it in for service. Awesome camera work Vince.
Yea a dump trailer would be really nice I was thinking maybe a tractor paired with that little RK dumper, It can hold 2k lbs. but yea I still need a trailer to move the yanmar also.
All coming along nicely, and as you mention 'at your pace' is an attraction to your channel' for me. So much reality tv with fake deadlines and rushed jobs. The pond looks great, I like the placement and thanks for sharing the advice about not having it in the ravine. Only question - should the downhill wall be compacted (maybe run over) more and/or thicker. I saw you pat it with the bucket some, but i would think driving over it or wetting it along the way might be needed? When full it will have some good side pressure on it. (?)
By all means get a thumb. I have a Kubota tractor and one of the first attachments I bought was a root grapple....... your equivalent of a thumb. Can't tell you how much I use it.....
You can put a hydraulically operated Bush hog on the excavator. Great for doing steep slopes and hard to get places you can't get with a regular tractor.
LOL! I am seriously afraid, the day will come, you will flatten out the mountain around your property, just ´cause it´s soo fun with the new excavator ....lol... At least you dreamed of this already? Sure you did? ROFL... Bytheway: I am into HiEnd Audio... and I pet my Speakers and my amplifiers, and also my turntables! If I had your Excavator, I´d pet it too! (When no one looks, for sure! lol)
Like watching someone working smart and creatively . Interested in seeing what a ‘thumb/thom’ does and looks like. Glad you have a nice friend, willing helper.
I just reached the point where you asked about the thumb attachment. It is worth it's weight in gold! I bought a fixer-upper and have projects identical to yours. I took out quite a few dead trees (50+) and it made moving, and cutting them a snap.
Thanks Vince for helping our buddy out. 👍👍 Pond looks great. Amazing what can be don’t with that backhoe. Helps me fantasize about what I want to do with my property. A pond is certainly on my list.
OK, I had abdolutely no idea what this "thumb" thing was that everyone is writing about, but now that I looked it up I am in agreement:) It's amazing the things you can learn about from watching your channel. Can't wait to see the pond filled and in action!!
Shout out BPS whoot whoot! Welcome to the cabin!!! The pond is going to look awesome you have the tools and the rock and water for this to look awesome. Plant some filter plants and you are good to go. Your nieces and nephews are gonna love it.
Firm believer in collecting as many different tools as possible. Having options is a great thing to have so if you haven't gotten the thumb yet I'd say definitely add it to the arsenal!
A Cabin and 50 Acres yep...a lot of room...49 more acres of practice! But you are very good now, and By this time next year I will bet you’ll be skilled enough to use the bucket on the mini excavator to chisel and carve big rocks from your property into mini sculptures to line your driveway! 😎👍
I do Commercial Civil work ... didn't know about the Yanmar Machine until now. As a first time operator the machine is right for the job !! See you are improving - Best Wishes
Definitely get a thumb! I recently purchased a Vio50 which did not come with a thumb. I bought a Tag thumb and a Tag 36" digging bucket to go along with the 12" Strickland bucket that came with it.
Kudos to Vince and BEPS seems to be a great company with quality people working for them, and definitely get the thumb will make your life with your excavator much easier. Great job everything is looking amazing.
Great video again. The middle bit with you talking about your mindstate and how you try to keep it good by working on projects you're motivated for is exactly why I enjoy your channel. You not only share your work on the cabin, but also openly and honestly share your self with us viewers. Much love.
Sounds like you’re going into business! Skidstear? Dumptruck? I will say, there’s definitely not a channel I know of that has followed someone’s journey into excavation. There’s certainly enough money and work out there to make it worth your time. It’s fun to watch the pros but I’d love to see that learning curve. I’ve often thought about going into excavation once I get burnt on building. Wishing you luck, man
Kinda tempting I really love heavy equipment, I kinda want to keep building ponds. Maybe it could turn into a business. Not many people doing it the way I want to do it either.
I said before that you are quite the Andrew! I loved the reference "Let's get "this thing" going. Let's get to work!". Can we have a "That's fixed!" Great work , thanks. And thumbs up to Vince. Maybe thumbs from Vince?
wow you did great work without a thumb on the escavator but a thumb makes moving those big rocks easier. Good luck on the rest of the build, you are doing great.
I recently bought a used VIO-35 and I need a thumb as well. I’m in the process of digging a 1/2 acre pond on my own 30 acres and a cabin. It’ll take me awhile with an 18” bucket, but like you I’m determined.
In regards to your comment about being a firm believer in the things you're doing, living in the moment: Often my friends and acquaintances ask me similar questions as I build mine.. " I bet you can't wait until your cabin is done so you can enjoy it"? I tell them that "it's not the completion that keeps me going. It is the enjoyment as I perform each task, each step of the project. It is the project itself! When the cabin is complete I'll need a new project"! Keep pressing on!
Lol i had to pause and come down here when you said to let you know in the comments if we thought you should get a thumb. I bet the flood of comments saying to get a thumb since delivery have been both amusing and frustrating. Just start a go fund me and tell everyone donations are welcome. Love the pond
Having a thumb would make moving rocks, trees & anything so much easier. U LOOK LIKE YOU'RE GETTING VERY COMFORTABLE OPERATING THAT MACHINE, GOOD LUCK, LOVE WHAT YOU'RE DOING, PS, THANK YOU VINCE‼️👍👍. Vinny 🇺🇸
I would definitely go for a thumb for the excavator they are so handy for grabbing things rocks trees etc. I also love the sounds machines make. I also really like how you explain the ideas you have and work with a purpose. I am also learning not to burn myself out on projects it can be hard.
Definitely get a manual thumb. Especially if you are getting a bunch more of those big rocks from that distance away. You're making big progress! Congrats! Keep networking too!
Great big shout out to BPS , good to see local helping local , maybe a BBQ for the team ???? You will get there , good for you for taking care of your Mental Health !!!!
Thumbs up! I'm from Ohio as well, and the wife and I just bought some farm land over the border in Indiana. I'm looking to do some of the same projects. We've been looking at buying a compact tractor with the front loader and backhoe attachments. We've got a lot of different projects in mind, from digging a pond, to clearing some of the forrest, making trails, etc... We've got a ton of cedar trees on our land, so we're contemplating harveting them and building a log cabin. All in due time.
Hey Brent cheers bud that sounds great. If you land is more flat then a TLB will be perfect! My neighbor built his cabin from cedar trees I’ve got an old video called finishing electrical then visiting my neighbor where you can check out what the cabin from cedars looks like
Yes Andrew has them LOL =) seriously yes get a thumb it is going to help speed things up time is going by too fast not to have one! If you pack clay on the bottom and the sides of the pond it will hold water good. I think a ram pump would easily fill it up from the creek. oh I see it already has a clay bottom and Clay is free. Ram pumps are relatively cheap to make. We use to go jump in my dads creek after bailing hay it was fun and refreshing.
Your vision, honest persistence and aptitude’s are very evident in your videos and your cabin “project”, Mike, and it is very enjoyable to see you accomplish your goals. Yes, you should definitely get a hydraulic thumb for your excavator - it will particularly help with all the rock work you’ll be doing. Thanks to Vince for his help and concern! It’s not hard to understand why he’s shown an interest in your efforts there! Keep up the great work and thanks, again, for sharing it with us!
