I think I watched every i4 video out there. Like you style, short and concise. You are one of the few reviewers who get that the M50 does not aim to compete with M3 or M4, like you said it is more like an M340. I only test drove the e40 and iX x50. Will pick up my M50 at the BMW Spartanburg Performance Center on August 4th. Only a few days left.

This car is a great example for other car manufacturers to follow, too many manufacturers make their EVs hideous and undesirable by trying to make them stand out from their gas cars

BMW on the other hand makes their EV undesirable by having poor handling...why else does this twelve minute review only show it driving in a straight line...poor cargo space, poor rear seat space, poor efficiency and range.

BMW i4 is a CHEAPLY made car using a 3 series GAS car body and OUTDATED bev Platform. It only got 4 of 5 SAFETY stars.

@@markplott4820 naw, the i4 is a lot worse than that. It is made on a brand new "shared" platform BMW wasted five years and buckets of money developing in order to be able to make a pretty lousy EV on the same production line as their ICE car version. This way, see, BMW has the "flexibility" to meet the "unpredictable" demand, which obviously will start out decent and steadily decline into "really, BMW still makes the i4?"

I drove one at a BMW Autocross event in June. My daily is an M340i, and holy crap! The i4 M50 is a screamer. We ran with the regen on, and while it takes a lap to get use to it, I really liked it. This could be my next BMW

Great review and great hat! Thanks for giving me a chance to drive this car. The launch system was kinda bonkers. Fun car! Definitely a nice option for those looking at the most "normal" EV when comparing to the experience of an ICE car.

Mine ( metallic portimao blue with cognac interior with carbon fiber trim) just got delayed till after the new year. You were describing the Hans Zimmer composed sound with the acceleration. I drove the base model recently as my dealership doesn't have an M50 on hand. Even that car was brilliant. I love the curved screen and iDrive 8. I will miss the 1-8 buttons I have on my 328ix.

I drove this thing a couple of weeks ago. The power delivery felt like my Nissan LEAF….on Bigtime steroids!!! 😂 But seriously, it’s one of the quickest cars I’ve ever experienced and probably the quickest Bimmer I’ve driven to date. 😮

Great review partner. I actually did not know that this car even existed. It does look pretty slick. I agree with you, Teslas look quite bare on the inside especially for the price. I would do the BMW over a Tesla as well.

I think I4 M50 in terms of performance and overall car happiness is located between M3/M4 and M340i/M440i. It's way quicker than M340i/M440i despite being very heavy. Acceleration is insane and steady.Great car. Real enthusiast's car unlike Tesla.

Just traded my model 3 performance in for this got tired of the minimalistic dull interior and this looks just far more sleek and aggresive. Someone said my m3p looked like an egg and that hit me hard 💀

Great video! Very good presenting, short, infomative and to the point, while also getting a lot of information through. awesome editing as well, really liked how you present the key info in the video. Ended up subscribing. I have waited almost a year now for this car. Ordered pretty much exactly the same car as you reviewed, i4 m50 with pretty much all extras except heated rear seats (i forgot to tick it 😅). Same color but with vernasca cognac leather M sport seats. Still no production date, but the dealer estimates delivery in august/september. So for now i am scouring youtube daily for new videos of the i4.

It really just sounds like the Canadian pricing for the Tesla is outrageous. It is SOOO MUCH less expensive here in the states even though it doesn’t get the tax incentives here. At $84k I can understand why people would look elsewhere in Canada. That isn’t the case in the US though.

the teslas interior is also sad, and only having a screen in the center is pathetic, and of course, styling is poor. no thanks! and in US their supercharger network isn't much of an advantage, not overall at least, the fastest trips across the US in EV's are all held by other cars(taycans, hyundais) due to more available faster charges, and out of spec motoring did a great video racing 5 EV's from colorado to las vegas, taycan and ioniq 5 were way ahead, model X long range(WTF) and model 3 coming in behind them

@@roboticvenom1935 the interior is subjective. Some people like minimalist others don’t. Both have their merits. As far as the Out of Spec test goes, of course the Taycan won. It is specifically designed to charge ridiculously fast at the expense of longevity. That battery won’t last charging like that. The Model 3 wasn’t even trying. They stopped for something like 30 minutes to switch drivers and I believe they even started later. They took their time too. All of the other drivers were actually trying to win and they said that in the video.

I have one. Great car. The weight is there, but it still corners like it's on rails. Braking too. Disks and regen combined works brilliantly.

I like this car a lot, I really do. The performance is there, the battery range is good, the interior is standard BMW quality. The only gripe I have with this car is that it shares the exact same platform as a gasoline 4 series grand coupe which comes with the center hump in the rear seats. Also, I am not a big fan of the rear quarter and rear look for this vehicle. For $84k, I need it to look different than a M440i Grand coupe. Every review says this is as fast as a M3/M4 in a straight line which I don't doubt but wait 'til you hit corners in this 5000lb machine, that hefty weight will be the biggest enemy to having this feel nimble. In everyday driving, I think the edrive40 is plenty good even being just rwd.

Presently, there are 44 i4 m50 available in my nearest bmw dealer, (these aren’t selling well) very tempting lease offers, as a consumer already have a new model x , phase 2 charger at home, and can charge for free at work, plus a 2 yr free supercharger at electrify America, range anxiety not a concern for us, plus being a 3rd car, as a daily , leases on these NOW is 599 and 6300 down give or take(73k msrp) so affordable and u can get out of it if u don’t love it after a lease is over..just got wife a new X, we have a huge new timberline expedition for room and using gas for longest trips , this is a perfect car for anyone as a 3rd car daily imo, San merino green, brown leather, 19 inch wheels which I actually like better cheers! Bargain, bargain if ur in the market, it’s a fine ride, if ur predicament is like mine..

BMW needs to take note on how to make electric vehicles in general. No front trunk, why? Transmission hump in the back, why? Horrible range, why? Low top speed, why? Least amount of tech from any EV at the price point, why? More expensive than the number one EV on the planet, why?

So what's the option of getting the m50 if you need to drive conservative because you need all the time to be afraid of the range. What's going to happen in the winter time when you will get only 60-70% range because we live in a freezer🥶. It's better just to by the i4 e40 with more range, or to go with the G80 EV that will give you more luxury, more space and range. I will wait for the new Ioniq 6.

For regular trips e40 is very fast, M50 is just insane. I drove e40, mooore than enough for civil roads

I have the m50 with 20" 868m wheels. On longer journeys I get 460km range. In freezing temperature "yes I drove it several weeks with freezing temperature's on 20"summer tires" it still managed good range. Around 380-400km.

So it's not as fast as a Tesla and it has much less range, but it has a nicer interior. Also, you neglected to go over the technology much. This is a huge factor is EV car purchase decisions. I imagine the Tesla has more tech stuff as well.

@@dangercat8919 0-100 km/h is pretty close between Model 3 and i4, i4 however is quicker on 0-200km/h and onwards because of higher torque, that s why i4 is quicker on rolling start as well. And i4 does have: line assist, line changing assist, auto parking and OTA. The infotainment of i4 is more refined than Model 3, also better fit and finish. Model 3 has longer range but if you opt for the i4 xdrive40 you get range over 500 km.

FSD is a joke. It's a very basic distance and lane keeping crap. The BMW driving assistant professional is much better and more advanced than FSD. Go check some comparison videos. Tesla is years behind BMW in self driving.

Just drove one today, liked the way it drove and the quality. I might order , but it’s just not the same man. my tesla model 3 performance just feels like such a spaceship compared to this. IDK. driving wise I feel they are similar in a sense, quality wise BMW wins, tech wise tesla.

So recently (i drive a M3P 2019 model), i started to use the track mode daily. Traction controll (ESP) completely off, F40%/B60% power delivery. This car is the perfect tool, its so nimble and insanely fast and hinestly the best in handling. Watch the latest video from "RSymons RSEV", he KNOWS these cars as he compared and OWNS them all. These is also an error in the video, the presenter claims a 0-60 time of 3.3 seconds, while it actualy 3.6 seconds (see video proof of carwow, measured with timing gear) BMW is claiming 3.9 seconds themselves. The car only achieves this 3.6 seconds when traction allows for it, it's a heavy boy and struggling a lot for tracktion, far more than the lighter Tesla M3P (which is capable of 3.2 seconds, even in the rain). Even in this video, he started the launch at 3:10, and at 3:15 we still see 98 KM/h in the dash. So again, proof that this 3.3 seconds is wishfull thinking. Regarding the tech, there is a abbreviation used nowadays, its "LAL"... It stands for Legacy Automaker Lag. Going back from a Tesla to a system with LAL.. No way.

I think he correctly stated that Car and Driver tested the M50 at 3.3 seconds. Most people agree that BMW’s claim is very conservative. Not sure if I would feel a difference between 3.3 and 3.9.

And be sure about this: you will feel the difference between 3.3 and 3.9, it's 15% faster, so it's 15% more G's on your body.

I can confirm this is much less than the model 3 performance. we are waiting for ours to be delivered. Cannot wait! Maintenance will be cheaper with bmw as it’s included and Tesla tires are over double the cost as the tires on the i4 m50!

Nice colour. Wheels too small looks odd. I'm glad they didn't give it wild styling except for that oversized grille. If it had the smaller kidney grille would be quite handsome! You know...too much money for me that's hellcat range! Take a shot every time Sam says "M". You'll be super drunk 😂

You sound pretty bias on BMW. Last week you and Gv60. It cost 79000$ and it can self park, faster charging, concierge service with Genesis. Your BMW cost 84000$ it doesn't even comes ventilated seat. No one in their right mind purchases a Chinese car. The BMW is a vehicle that can be viewed in multiple perspectives and masters the various perspectives. Providing passenger comfort to driver oriented performance, that cheap Chinese car shouldn’t even be considered as a car when compared to the BMW.

Not all EVs are fast. Yes a 100k car will always be fast. Model 3 base is slow, Kona EV base slow asf, Chevy Bolt etc. In your mind you are probably thinking Plaid, Taycan etc, those high performance vehicles. Also most EVs once you pass 100kmh or 60mhp, they slow down to save battery. So yes not all EVs are fast

I guess, if you like a million buttons, wide screen so you can see your speed in 10 different places but can't even watch a movie or play games while you charge, and specially if you need to hear fake ICE engine noises and see fake useless vents, grills and rear diffusers made for pipes and not for aerodynamics.... This is the car for you... But hey to each their own. 🤷‍♂️

Frunk not necessary when you have a hatch back; 270+ mile range is plenty (ample charging network & growing); top speed of 142mph is more than enough (its not a track car) and $70k is reasonable compared to Tesla & BMW prices. That said it's not targeted for every buyer.

@@obieWanmotivation I’m not sure what numbers you’re looking at, but compared to Tesla, this is overpriced. 1. The charging network is nowhere near ample; the only network that is viable is the Tesla supercharging network. 2. 270+ theoretical miles of range vs teslas 300+ confirmed. 3. Again, no front trunk, and huge transmission jump in the back when there’s no transmission. 4. The Tesla model 3 has more range, more storage, better charging network, more legroom, better acceleration, higher top speed, and is $20,000 cheaper😂😂😂

@@TheDougSpot I was talking about their EVs. I ordered an i4 M50 in October last year and was just informed that I got an allocation off the waiting list. Production hasn't started. Most likely delivery will be by September or October [12 months + overall wait - to get the car you ordered as opposed to a fall through]. Porche Taycans have longer waiting periods.

@@SamCarLegion - with due respect, you're a shallow doofus over-awed by BMW's shiny gee-gaws and doo-dads built into a meh-quality cabin. Sure, BMW *can* build a quality body and sumptuous cabin. Their prowess stops there. That all fell-apart with the i4. BMW crammed mediocre EV tech into an ICE platform; transmission hump and exhaust duct-work included. They can't produce an EV at profit so they skimped on quality components in internal build. This car demonstrates BMW failing. But I get it, man. You're not tuned in to follow the micro or macro economic indicators, so as long as the deck chairs look tidy on the Titanic, all is rosy in your view.

@@camirocz I am in Ottawa and am enjoying a 2021 Tesla Model 3 LR. I have been very interested in the BMW i4 M50, BUT I am very concerned how busy the already inadequate CCS DCFC network , in Canada, is going to be in a year or two. Every one of the dozens of new EVs coming to market now are all going to be trying to fast charge at those stations that only 2 or three chargers at a time. They need to wake up and start to, like Tesla, build stations with 8-20 chargers each. This is especially true when many of those non-Tesla cars can only charge at about 50kW.

You would have to pay me to buy a Tesla - horrible quality. Their range is not close to what they claim, the interior can’t get close to a Corolla, their paint job is done by kids, the road noise is better only with Bose noise canceling headphones. It’s more money in Canada, the ride quality and comfort is better in a shopping cart, and don’t get me started on how ugly they are on the outside.

Published Quality ratings count automatic over-the air software updates at home as recalls, making the quality appear less good than it is. Sandy Munro rates the seats of the Model 3 as the most comfortable of all EVs.I have had my Model 3 for 3.5 years with no problems. When someone comes out with something as capable at a comparable price, I'll consider something else. This is all I am saying on the matter. Bye.

bmw vehicles are trash. Car and driver, Edmunds, and consumer reports all agree. Plus the two I owned were both trash, never again. I've had three Lexus vehicles for the last 8yrs , not one problem not even a starter.
