Their voices are so beautiful... and freightening! This felt like a horror movie toward the end

You should watch the kabuki play of this story, the one with music of Kinea Sakichi IV and main role of Ichikawa Ennosuke III. It's just mesmerizing

This is surprisingly terrifying! The story telling and the music was astounding. It definitely makes me appreciate Japanese theatre even more.

Loved the movement, you can see how much practice went into the performance

It is not only the poses and more aggressive movements of the actor that tells the anger of the demon, the color and length of the horns also says a lot, the redder the mask and longer the horns means the spirit is more demonic, inversely the whiter it gets and the shorter the horns indicates a minor demon or something of the like

The Kabuki play about this story is just amazing. It is one of the best kabukis I have seen, and it definitely is one of my favourites, because of the incredible performance of the actor playing the old lady, Ichikawa Ennosuke III. In the kabuki (which has the same naem as this Noh play, "Koruzuka"), the music composed by Kinea Sakichi IV and the acting of Ichikawa Ennosuke is just the perfect combination to create a masterpiece. I have watched it in the Patreon of Kabuki Preservation Society, but maybe it can also be found online elsewhere

This is not kabuki, Kabuki And Noh are different types of performances, one thing you might see that’s different in kabuki is that they use makeup, Noh on the other hand uses masks that may be frightening, also Noh plays are more spiritual and religious

Kurozuka is my favourite Noh play. I'm no expert, but when I learnt some of the basics of Noh theatre, a few pointers about acting, / dancing, mask making, stage setting , music, etc. I really started appreciating the plays much more and this one is really amazing !!! 👺

Woah cool! Can anyone explain to me why the actors never lift their feet while walking on stage? The rhythms in this play are simply splendid!
@modmeemays2245
@modmeemays2245 2 года назад
Yes Suri-Ashi is the technique you’re describing, where the actors slide their feet to walk instead of lifting them.

Noh stages are designed to be extremely resonant, so if you walk normal all the audience can hear will be your footsteps.
