@@g_y.rtz420 Modern F1? Well I stopped watching years ago. Watching those drivers who look like boy band members with their electric cars is just as inspiring as a warm pisshole in the snow.
@@wowfrosted13 exactly, each one of them is just fabulous at certain points. Give the Corvette a longer straight line and the Porsche is gone. But give the Porsche a race track that has many turns and you won't be able to catch it.
They are siblings across the trims. Very much like the mustang and camaro, or many of the pony cars to euro touring cars. I’m a corvette guy but I respect the porche they belong together.
Old video but so so good! I'm gonna try to give some insight here since there is so much misinformation in the comments. First, please note that it is INCREDIBLY DARK during this point of the race. EDIT: (sunset was at 6:37PM local time that day, with the 1st place overall car finishing in just over 4 hours. I have been unable to find a start time however). The camera brightens up the view a lot! I mean, what good would it do the viewer to see a nearly black TV screen? (Look at 5:55 and you'll get a better idea of the darkness) Second, the Corvette (Magnussen) driver claimed that the Porsche (Bergmeister) "parked it" at the final turn, causing the rear end bump. Bergmeister did not dispute this. Bergmeister claimed to not intentionally spin Magnussen. He DID want to rub the Corvette to scrub off his speed. Obviously it didn't end that way. Lastly, no penalty was given after the race. However, both drivers were put on a two race probation to begin the 2010 season. And as far as I know, neither driver had any animosity towards the other. (As documented in interviews with both drivers) EDIT: **Driver interview/quote** Since that fateful sprint to the finish, Magnussen and Bergmeister have both made comments that show the true professionalism of both drivers. “We talked afterwards and we both had the same perspective about what happened and how it happened,” Bergmeister said. “On the flight to Daytona [in January], we were on the same plane and Jan came over and we talked. I said, ‘Well I was trying to push you towards the wall.’ And he said, ‘I was trying to push me in the other direction.’ At some point, physics got in the way and it didn’t work out anymore.” Magnussen shared a similar viewpoint of the incident: “Last year’s race was fantastic except for the last 50 yards,” he said. “We spoke about it and [understood] that we’re going to have to race each other hard many times this year. Stuff like that can’t can’t happen. We have no hard feelings and we’re just going to go at it like nothing happened.” Thanks!
yeah, cause 20+ cars running 180+ bumper to bumper is real boring... Also, if I had to pick which I'd rather go to, I'd pick a NASCAR race over F1 or GT.
@@darerun1051 it is boring. Especially when they crash every 2 seconds. Nascar sucks. Let's watch guys go around an oval all day making no right turns or even braking. *yawns*
I agree this is a lot more exciting racing then NASCAR, but it will never catch on like NASCAR for one reason. People can go to their local dirt track and race. Even if your poor you can race the bomber class. That is what makes NASCAR more popular. There use to be local track that you could buy a sports car and go and race at many years ago. Like in Dallas back in the early 60's had Green Valley race way. But today there is nothing but professional racing in this style of racing.
This is the highest quality video from 2009 I've ever seen. I almost thought this video was no more than a couple years old, even with the outdated-looking UI.
Bergmeister had bad flashbacks to Sebring 2007. Same situation, car behind him bumped him in the last corner and rubbed along side him to the finish line, forcing his way past him and lost the race. When he got bumped again here, he thought, "Oh no, not F*cking this time."
So what you're saying is Bergmeister a fucking dirty driver. It's not the other guy's fault they were faster than him. The asshole ran Magnussen off of turn one nearly every time they were side-by-side coming out of the hairpin.
What did the referees say? They had all the data and all camera views? Was there a penalty? So you should be the asshole because you no nothing about motorsport! Why did Bergmeister re-overtake when Magnussen had passed. I thaught Magnussen was that much faster?
+Mario Peters Stewards didnt do anything. The Porsche won and the Corvette was 2nd. It was a fair obvious decision. Magnussen drove like an ass, Bergmeister drove like an ass. They both got reprimanded , from what i remember but no penalties. Flying Lizard won the race and the championship that year.
Either way, rubbing is racing.. But forcing an opponent into the concrete barrier, and then spinning them out once they are passing you is bullshit, cowardly, and a bitch move.
Some Porsche drivers are total DOUCHE BAGS, Saw LeMans 2017 a 911 cutted out a ford GT just ass the same way...... got some points out... This is not a game.. Good Drivers have died for this shitty drivers...
I was there too. Funny how no one ever shows after the race and how the Porsche driver was parked at the start finish line celebrating and popping champagne standing on top of the car while the corvette was getting toed away.
Started like iRacing semi-pros, ended like Wreckfest no-rules 😆 Thanks RU-vid for this 10 yo recommandation. It already feels like the good old time... especially with the 'vette 💛
@@cristian9365 he also said he never came of the throttle, hoping he would still make it across the finish line first, even though he knew he was aiming for the wall and it would be a big crash. Now that's commitment 😅
This is why I love racing! The tension of a long race, which builds up as the laps run out and drivers giving their all to cross the line first! That's what racing is about!
Showed this clip to my ESL workshop about the history of racing in the US. None of them were car people but they were on the edge of their seats for this one.
How is this 720p60? I wonder if it was originally uploaded as a 60fps file and thanks to RU-vid updates it automatically upgraded it to the original frame rate or if something was done afterwards to make it 60.
@@ballaking1000the fact that f1 doesn't have many exciting races compared to a lesser class in a regional championship is baffling, for being the "benchmark" it sure can't keep up with itself
@@joaquingonzalez834 "Lesser class" AKA, they are either much smaller and slower cars, it's an oval track or it's a multi-class race. All of those promote overtaking. Which is exactly why I like F1; an overtake actually means something at any point in the race because they are rarer and harder to do; so when they happen is a big moment; unlike the musical chairs in most other motorsports where the individual overtake doesn't mean half as much. Also, F1 isn't the benchmark for constant 'excitement', it's the benchmark for overall speed with the most advanced technology; I thought that much was obvious. F1 sure seems to keep up with itself when those who don't even like F1 completely unprovokingly bring it up on their own, don't see that happening with literally any other series, what's that indicate to you? Whether you like it or not (... but deep down you know) F1 IS the benchmark and the pinnacle of motorsports. There's other series that require more skill, but no series comes close to the stigma that F1 brings and is what most aspiring racing drivers dream about.
That's what it seems when you're a better driver and being blocked and pushed aside into the sand few times. A small bump to the ass was repaid by murder attempt; after all those shoves Porsche driver did, a small bump to the ass almost got the Vette dude killed. Well done. I'd take this shit to court easily.
@@kresimircosic9035 The commentators clearly said the Vette had the better car and the Porsche was running on little tread. They are both good drivers but let's not jump to conclusion who the better driver was. In the last corner, the Vette bumped the Porsche in the back and forced his way into the lead, the Porsche driver did what was done to him by the Vette driver.
@@dAbaPEsTA123 So bumping someone is as severe as attempted manslaughter. Even if his intention wasn't to hurt Magnusson, he DID intentionally put a racer in a life-threatening situation. That isn't attempted murder, but it is one step less severe. He should of had his license stripped from him. I've seen dirty drivers, but Berg will always top that list. Even the LeMans tragedy didn't have as much dirty driving as this. On that note, Magnusson drove like an idiot too, he was far too aggressive and unsafe. Doesn't warrant being driven into a wall at over 100mph, though.
@@mattj790 They were both driving recklessly and the Porsche driver could've ended in the same situation as the Vette driver with every bump that the Vette driver caused. So, they BOTH intentionally put a racer in a life-threatening situation. Based on this sole situation, they both should be stripped of their license according to your logic, not just the Porsche driver. However, just like any other sport, when athletes rough up each other in the spirit of competition, the officials usually let things slide. In this case, it was in a high-speed race, therefore, the repercussions seem more severe.
Rome N I play iRacing and believe me when your opponent keeps blocking you and pushing to the dirt it will makes you frustrated and agitated making you to do any legal way to pass him. Or worst scenario if you’re going down you’ll make him come with you.
Man this was some exciting stuff!!!! Awesome battle. I used to keep up with the series several years ago and this was the type racing you wanted to see.
That was exciting to watch! Both drove their hearts out and displayed a spectacular battle for the win. I couldn't care less as to whether or not that last move was dirty, it was thrilling!
@@DavidC-ro3ro You would after it happened to you once already. And especially after driving the whole race only to be getting shafted in the ass at the finish line due to dirty racing by the guy in 2nd place. Your brain would just simply seek for justice in the heat of the battle.
You have the wrong context. No man with a pair EVER lifts. However, there will always be a racing etiquette to maintain your line, and Berg squeezed him. Period. Case closed. Didnt maintain his line and caused s major off-track collision. Who wants some of these hands? Its not even a debate...you squeezed my team off track and into a retaining wall barrier...someone is getting their inbred white elitist jaw realigned. Who else want it?
I went to the Porsche event at this track and I've gotta say I Love This Track! The corkscrew is amazing you can go from one side of the hill to the other and see all of the track from up there.
That penalty ruined the race, and the sad part is Hamilton probably would have won anyway, but Ham backed off after the penalty, because why risk the contact. F1 constantly drops the ball, and the fans lose. Ohh and I 100% expect Ferrari to remember this when it comes to F1, they are the biggest revenue generator, they will find a way to make it hurt for F1.
And how many seconds penalty for the corvette for touching the porsche rear on the last turn? Blocking isn't illegal, the corvette should have break and let the porsche go instead of destroying his own car. Well deserved, you shouldn't win a race at the last turn by touching the other car rear, to make him loose control.
Absolutely love this clip, had to come watch it again because Nick Murray Willis used the "They bumped" in one of his newer videos and I knew it came from this clip
The Porsche dude clearly grew up on Gran Turismo. But the vette fella? Straight from Forza Horizon LOL Edit: thx for the likes and plz don't take me seriously. I enjoy Forza a lot...i also like corvettes :)
@@aproductofboredom lol this is a sad true story. In gt sport im not afraid of going online and race against real people because the sportsmanship is amazing. But forza is literally a demolition derby sadly.
Great video! I was at this race standing just past the Start/Finish Line, I couldn't believe it when I saw the Corvette crash, as a Corvette owner I was pissed also....lol!
Love this series. Always thought that NASCAR should have their top 3 tiers, including the trucks, in one race like this. Have each tier qualify separately to fill 12 positions. 36 race cars on the track. Tell me that wouldn't be perfect!
Laguna Seca is probably my favorite track. I worked T&S there for SCCA starting in 1964, when thete were just 9 turns. and nothing but a tower inside the track by Start/Finish for posting a leader board.. The infield area was used for campers and RVs
No matter how many times I watch this, it never gets old. This was an awesome end of a race. And a bad move by Bergmeister. Great memories! I was a Paddock Volunteer at this race, in Pit Lane about to go out with the crowd control tape to get ready for the podium ceremony when the crash happened. We immediately pulled back in and had to wait to go out. I also picked up a windshield from that Corvette that night after the team had left. It is in now in my garage waiting to be displayed. The windshield from the crash was obliterated after flying out of the car. So I am thinking it was from Practice or Qualifying.
Uh oh, another hurt Vette fanboy, do you mean just let the bully win again by cheating? Playing dirty? This is top class racing, not a hillbilly moonshine run. If you believe in the "rubbing is racing" your redneck es is showing. The bully got exactly what he deserved. Bergmeister was the Pro, driving clean and he got hit from behind as everybody can see. There should be a rule for doing this before finish, instant disqualification. He closed the angle and there was no contact sideways. But the bully was to arrogant to admit defeat and paid the price. Karma is a bitch, when you try to cheat in front of everybody and you fail, it was so satisfying to watch, saved under my favourites.
@@farnum3297 "Vette FanBoy"? NO! "Rubbing Is Racing Redneck? NO! The whole reason why I got into Laguna as a Volunteer is because it hosts some of the Worlds Best Racing. The only events I have ever paid to attend are F1 and The Monterey Historics. Then I got lucky and got in to Laguna via a high up friend. As far as this race, whether what happened was Right or Wrong, It was a great ending. I am not for or against any Driver. They all do what we could only dream of. So I can't hate on any of them. I had spoken to many when volunteering at the track, And Bergmeister is a Cool Dude! Talked to him a few times when I was working the Paddock. I miss those days! But the Memories are forever.
I was about 16 years old when this happened. My dad took me to this race and we were standing at the fence right at the finish line. Felt the debris of the cars hitting us. Been going to this track for 27 years and is still the best finish I witnessed.
The best race I've seen live. We were midway down the front straight watching this last battle. We knew there would be some roughness since, as they mentioned, Bergmeister was bumped out of his victory at Sebring back in '07. Magnussen may have had the faster car, but lacked the skill to execute a clean pass on this tight track (Bergmeister holds his line, not making unusual maneuvers to deliberately block Jan..). Thankfully no one was hurt in the wreck, and at least he crossed the line to take 2nd!
Still holds up. Both putting their cars on the line for the win was nice to watch. The block on the end was a little rough, not sure how I feel about that, the Vette got by him on the last straight so I mean what coulda been
Simply amazing! Racing at its best. Although I was expecting some collision or crash because of how extremely agressive they were. But thats competition 👍👍
Y'all out here sayin the Corvette driver deserved what he got. You right, sometimes we get too cocky, sometimes we have to pay the price for taking the risk. Oh well, we fix ourselves up, so you better be ready for the next race. Don't cry about it.
