Hi Ernestine, Thank you for your incredibly kind response elsewhere in this thread. It was one of the first replies I saw this morning and it's funny but I had been letting the 2 or 3 negative comments really gnaw at me overnight and your comment reminded me to never focus on the 1 or 2 people who don't "get" something if you have dozens of people literally telling you that they love it. I think we'll be fine on the carpel tunnel end. 😁 I did the math and capped it at a number where I thought would be a reasonable "per day" postcard writing session and I don't think we'll reach that cap. So all is good! -J

I just stopped by your channel and I wanted to say that your thumbnails have improved a lot from when you first started! That's a big deal to me because I think the mistake so many of us make is doing the same thing and expecting different results. The one thing I am trying to avoid as long as I can is splitting the community into people who pay and people who don’t. We so appreciate everyone who supports through superthanks and PayPal donations etc - but we never want to leave those behind who would prefer to not. We got called “ebeggers” just for doing this post card club…😬 While we know this isn’t the case we are always working hard to not be seen as people who are just doing this to solicit donations. @@OpenRoading My wife and I will actually be taking a cruise around Alaska the first part of May, so I will be experiencing some of the same weather as you. I have been looking at the long range forecasts and it gets close to freezing a lot in May. I hope that does not cause problems for you.

@@kencotton4645 Generally we're fine if it dips below 32. I only start getting concerned if I have to drive in ice/snow, or if the weather is going to drop into the low teens, OR if it's going to be below freezing for more than 24 hours. That's when I really start to take measures to protect my tanks and plumbing. The rest is solved by running the heater on overdrive. 😂 -J

​@@OpenRoading I noticed it splayed on the desk. Highway 93 runs from Jasper, AB to Tumacacori, AZ if you're really adventurous. In Jasper you can head west to Highway 97 or east to Highway 40.

Two primary reasons for the decision not to go the Patreon route: First - ongoing subscription model. We'd rather just give people the opportunity to support on their own terms rather than have something recurring. Nothing wrong with the model, just not for us at this time. Second - it's another platform for us to maintain. Adding Patreon makes us figure out whether we should "split" our audience into the youtube commenters and the "paying" commenters over on Patreon (do we favor one group over the other)? Do we create exclusive content on Patreon? We want to be very specific with where we put our energy. Right now we have 3 platforms we maintain and we want to do it WELL. We have RU-vid, Instagram, and our twice monthly newsletter. The more platforms we add...the more apt we are to get spread thin and start cutting corners on quality. Sometimes you should do "what everyone else is doing" but then other times it's good to try to break the mold and try something different. 🙂 -J

This isn't about the post cards....We've had several requests for ways to support the channel. Many creators do a Patreon or some form of recurring membership we decided to try something a little different. The post cards are a simple, yet personal, way for us to say thank you to those who have seen the value they are getting from the entertainment of the weekly videos that we publish. Certainly not for everyone and like I said in the video - that's totally fine. -J

Really? I missed the spot where we did that! Just looked it up and it says “The online version of traditional begging asking strangers for money to meet basic needs such as food or shelter.” We’ve worked our tails off over the past 6 months to save money for our adventures and we have documented that process through weekly videos. In the process, without asking, we have had many people reach out wanting us to start a patreon - which is an ongoing subscription model - because they want to support our hard work on this channel. Instead - we decided to do a one time thing with hopefully a creative thank you to those people who see the extra value we have provided them with this channel. Not everyone values entertainment here on YT and that’s totally fine. But we are not begging. And we will have food on our table tomorrow regardless if anyone were to sign up and we’d be 100% content. Thanks for watching! -J

I need us to pay our way.. We're old

Not that at all. This money isn't keeping us on the road - we are 100% OK if no one wants a post card. We are just trying to create a creative way for people who have asked for ways to support the channel. No..we aren't wealthy by any means, in fact we have a list a mile long of repairs we need to get done on the RV and we are tackling them one at a time with money we have earned through our work camping gigs and through the ad rev we are starting to get on RU-vid. Practically every week we have people asking us in one way or another if there is something they can do because they want to help us create content. I know...blows me a way too. But we wanted to do something different than the normal. We wanted to do something a little extra special for those who want to be a little extra special for us. So, this is what we came up with. People who want to support the channel are often saying "Hey! We find this content valuable and we want to help you keep creating it!" because they understand the content they are being entertained by isn't simple and free to create. It's obvious this Post Card Club isn't for you, and that's A-OK! I'm happy you're watching and hopefully we'll see ya when next weeks full length video releases! Have a good one! -J

I am pretty old myself I guess, I’m 70 something. I understand in a way what you are saying but here’s how I view it. Each of us here choose to watch this channel, right? And if we watch it we can choose to support or not, right? Personally I watch them because they are so upbeat and fun and entertaining. They are leading a life I cannot because I am a bit disabled, which is what it is. (I still have a fabulous life.) I get enjoyment from watching them. That is worth something to me. I cannot afford to give them much or maybe even often. But they don’t care at all. In my simple opinion they are providing a service to me. I am not going to negate that service by saying it has no value. Perhaps that explains it a bit. I am a crafter and used to crochet a lot. I rarely sold my items because people think if it isn’t from the store it is cheap. If this was a Netflix show or on TV we’d subscribe and pay money. Just another way to look at it.
