Hi, We're Joe and Kalyn! In 2019 we sold our sticks and bricks house, bought an RV, and said we'd try full-time travel for a year. As you can see, it stuck.
I’m new to your channel, but I’m very impressed with the quality of the content and editing. I must admit, your decision to adopt Trinity motivated me to subscribe and binge watch your videos. I predict you will surpass all other RVer RU-vid channels. May the odds be ever in your favor!
I felt so sad for you about the truck repair. We've been there. Fun fact I was born in bismark ND and my father was stationed at grand forks. You give us hope we can fail and still keep smiling. ❤❤❤stay positive.
This looks very cool. Im not sure i could stand for 12 hours straight. Youll are so sweet and im glad you're doing better. I appreciate all these video on the different work camping stuff.❤ thank you
I refuse to self check out because its giving free labor to corporations while stealing a persons job... I also dont do ordering on the website before going to fast food or restaurants... Just something to think about...
I hear you and I don't think you are doing a thing wrong by doing so. You should 100% do what your conscience tells you to do and do not violate that! For me, I see change as inevitable (not always in good ways that's for sure) and that always means some jobs go away and new ones are created. So many stable hands lost jobs when the car was invented. Lamp lighters lost their jobs when street lamps got changed over with electricity. Printers lost their jobs as media trended online. People choosing youtube over TV means that there is less money going to Hollywood. The most major form of "progress" that has me concerned and will probably have me making similar decisions to you (as in not doing specific things out of my own protest even though the change is probably inevitable) is all the AI stuff. But that's a topic for another day! 😂 -J
Loved the video, i previously watched it but i guess i didnt leave a comment. Probably watching on tv. I did have a question or 2 about the gate guard jobs, so can you both work throughout the shift. Lets say i take first 4 he takes next 4 and so on. Or is it only 1 person that 12 hours? Also, youll said 170 for the day. Per person or for both? Thank you much and can't wait to see more.
The gate guarding was $200 a day total. So the first job was 24 hours and you can split the hours however you see fit. You just have to have someone awake at all times. The second gig was just 12 hours and was also $200 so that gig was much much better! 🙂 -J
@@OpenRoading Sorry, somehow this comment was cut off when I placed it on my phone. I said I appreciate how you are not going the path of becoming a long commercial for some products. A lot of the RV channels have become just that.
Yeah. We’ve had some rough gos with US border patrol in buffalo. We just had an interesting experience getting into Alaska. More on that in a future video. -J
You should find coffeecrisp chocolate bar. And Canadian Smarties, they are shaped like M&Ms. If you think Canada is nuts with our KitKat flavors. Japan has even more.
I did not check but this walmart was smaller than the ones we are used to in the states. Plus Canadian Tire had Tire right in the name... Simple mind over here. 😂 -J
One of the things never discussed, you almost did, getting along when you are in tight quarters. Alan and I lived in a freightliner 24 hours 7 days a week for 2 years. Our marriage survived with a few disagreements. Now we live in a 40 foot fifth wheel feels like a mansion.
Catching up on a lot of your older videos. Love the movie/show clips you add in btw, so many perfect ones edited in....the Modern Family one cracked me up 😭
Oh my goodness that Banff drive with your rv was so stressful! I drove my grandson and I up to Banff for a drive when we were on a three week road trip several years ago. We were in my Mazda 3, and I was totally stressed by all of the cars, tour buses, and pedestrian traffic. 😮 We just drove through town and I asked my grandson if he wanted to park and walk around. He said absolutely not! He just wanted to go back home to Texas. 😂 At least he loved Glacier National Park.
Crispers are not chips. They are awful in any flavour. Try Lays ketchup. Way better. The Icefield Parkway is our favourite drive ever. We’ve been a few times now. Check out our last trip there in the latest video on our channel if you’re interested. Safe travels 😁
Not many Maple trees in Alberta. If someone tries to sell you Alberta maple syrup, don’t buy it!! Also only buy maple syrup made in Quebec. Do not buy maple Surup from Ontario. 🙂
@@OpenRoading Good one 🙂. Not much for maple trees in Alberta not counting Manitoba Maple which is pretty close to an invasive species as far as I’m concerned. Quebec has sweeter soil hence sweeter syrup . Happy trails 👍
I never get tired of watching people’s reaction to driving the Ice Fields Parkway. Ive probably driven it 130-200 times. Be sure to stop at Liard Hot Springs on your way to Alaska. I’ll follow your journey. 👍
33' (31 inside) is only a moderate sized trailer. I agree - bigger isn't always better but thise 310 square feet has been our full time home for the past 5 years.... it's honestly the perfect size for us. -J
Cool! Maybe you can help me. I have dual batteries in my rv, I hooked up a battery monitor which required a shunt between the two. I bought a 100w panel and a renogy solar controller. Do I just hook up my controller positive to positive BEFORE the shunt and negative AFTER the shunt like my battery monitor is wired?
Ok - I'm not an electrician and certainly not a solar expert. I'm a little lost on the "Between the two batteries" part. We have 3 batteries and they are all wired together to make a "single" 300 ah battery....so nothing in between them. The shunt is between the battery and the bus bar on my system. For the solar controller our system the panels are wired directly to the solar controller and then from the solar controller to bus bars. The bus bars are also connected to the batteries and the inverter. I recommend finding a solar power RV facebook group - there are many people in there who know a lot more than I do on this one! -J
Try a coffee crisp chocolate bar - yummy… Smarties(chocolate) in a box… basically m & m’s but milk chocolate but they will melt in your hands😂 - oh and Big Turk…
I have to ask... did you left your truck in front of the pump will you went inside to pay (exactly like the "old couple" did before you) ? How rude !!! HAHAHAHA :)
Nope. I never went inside...... I did this thing where I paid at the pump. 😁 I have paid inside before but I generally do that before I pump and I do it as quickly as humanly possible. -J
In what way was this close to click bait? Because I didn't have to back up? I honestly was not sure if I was going to be able to make the turn as I drove up. 🤷🏼 In a sea of youtube thumbnails littered with bikini clad influencers or thumbnails that have absolutely nothing with the story I'm at a loss as to why this thumbnail is getting criticism as "clickbait" or "almost clickbait." -J
Not typically. There may be some retailers that take it but you have to be careful because if they do there is a good chance they will just give you an even $1 for $1 exchange rate which is terrible for you. -J
As a resident of Alberta, Banff is small and not ment for large RVs and a total tourist trap. We have many other provincial parks that are way more quiet and cheaper, like Greg lake by Hinton and Pierce Greys lakes by grande cache that you would of drove past on 40
Take it from someone who lived in Banff National Park for a long time...the best time of year to visit is late September. Great weather, no crowds and the trails are snow free! May and June have some of the most volatile weather. The thing to remember is that much like the US national parks, Canada's national parks were also designed well before the age of large RV's.
I tried watching Craig & Viktoriya and I didn't like their videos, then I found you guys and have loved your videos. Now you are linking up with them, dang it.
Hi there, I appreciate you enjoying our channel. But I have to be very real with you - I'm not sure why you'd say that about our friends...in our comment section. It's 100% OK to have a channel that you like or don't like. I'm 10000% sure that there thousands of people who watch Craig and Victoria and we just aren't their cup of tea. That's what's cool about youtube - you've got options! But saying something like this to someone who is clearly friends with the other is odd (and that's being as kind as I can be). Craig and Victoria are two of the most amazing people you could ever meet and on top of that - they are a huge reason that we even found success on youtube our third time around. It was a sit down with them last summer (as friends) that helped us realize some of the things we were doing wrong in this space - so to be honest...if you like us...you should at least in part be thankful for them even if they aren't your cup of tea. -J
Well done video! I see so many travelers going with less stuff - smaller vans, etc.. The less you take, the more you actually get outside (outside = walking).
This is our 310sq foot home home. 🙂 Perfect size for us for the past 5 years. I couldn't do van life full time. We enjoy having the space to work - especially when the weather is bad and working outside isn't an option. -J
