Friday morning in Ranelagh village and Eamon Dunphy opens the door of his three-storey Georgian house. He is dressed in jeans and a cardigan and his piercing blue eyes offer a welcome. A few doors away, there is a For Sale sign outside, asking price €1.5m.

On Grafton Street on a lovely summer evening myself and fellow boozers Daffy Duck and Michael Mouse ran into Eamo,we spent a great time in Murphy's bar singing an shouting, Eamo gave a version of Ragglin Road that brought house down,,Eamo for President !

Things became difficult after a Kebab n Chips, Eamo thought he was back in Watford and shouted an obsenity which was overheard by a passing Pastor leading a donkey to some mad festival or other,the Donkey kicked Eamo in the nuts,the Pastor was exhulted and cheered the Ass on, Eamo at this stage was spifflicated and called for more drink,,hard to imagine,but the Irish President passed by ,half cut himself,,aaashhh yes Grafton St.at summertime !

He couldnt have put it any better. Great insight to an going problem in this country that is ignored on a daily basis, the blight of the most addictive drug in the world , our friend, our worst enemy, Alcohol.

People laugh at me when I tell them that alcohol is a drug and the worst one in the world but because it's legal it can't possibly be.

I think maybe cos of the weather we drink more. Look at Eastern Europe they have long weathers and drink more than us. Whereas the Latin European/Greece/Balkan countries don't drink much. Smoking is more there thing compared to NW Europe @JRA73

A true friend of someone they know is in active alcoholism would not be on a night out with them, and would not be drinking a few bottles of lager around them.

Obviously it's been a while since I saw Eamo on the box, but he looks like he's aged so much. Irish sport lost so much when the likes of Dunphy and Hook left RTE. Of course they have their haters and they were many things, but they were never boring. You can't say that Eamon......I just did Bill! RIP Billo too.

I used to live near to Eamonn as a child, at the local shops one of my pals went up to him to ask him for his autograph as a joke , I took a quick look in his car and saw too many empty liquor bottles to count on the car floor also hundreds of cigarette butts, it was pretty disgusting.
