Modi and his government never help anyone. They just care about the power and use fear mongering and lies to gain votes. They spread lies that are so ridiculous we might wonder how people fall for it, but some people are really easy to manipulate. As long as the power obsessed Modi and his cronies are in power, India won't change.
I feel for this guy. I can sort of relate to his story. I grew up in motels and homeless with a crack addicted mother. I had a little brother and we had no food. There were times when I had to lie, cheat, and steal to feed my brother and myself. I even remember walking around to fast food drive throughs in the middle of the night. I would check the drive throughs for dropped change and I'd check dumpsters (if they weren't locked) for food that was tossed at the end of the night. I would also steal food from grocery stores and steal change from people's unlocked cars. Desperation will make you do things you otherwise wouldn't do, especially after going days without eating. Not all of these people are bad people. Some are greedy criminals but some are starving and desperate.
I clicked this video anticipating to be outraged at the person, but am leaving with a new understanding and empathy for them. Wow. Karl, amazing interview and video, man.
Thank you Karl for interviewing a former scammer it's good to hear his side of the story. I don't like scammers but I can understand why he did it at that time and it is great that he has changed his ways and is a decent honest man. I wish him all the best for his future he seems like a genuine honest man.

But he has changed and is doing the right thing now. Honest ? This guy lied in the video. Listen again to the first three mins. Did not work for Microsoft, he knew that. Was not trained to work for Microsoft which he knew. Took 2 to three months to work out not all as it seemed. BS. He is expecting ppl to swallow his bs. He was desperate for cash and willing to steal from ppl. Do not be naive and swallow the crap that this video portrays. Is one of poverty and hopelessness for many. People have a choice. The majority of Indians do not work in call centres and do not steal. @@craigk2644 Rewatch the video and calm down. No one is saying his actions as a 14-year-old are _justifiable._ Theft and the ruin of others are not justifiable. But it can be _understandable._ And whether he had a choice or not, _now_ he has chosen not to. He condemns it, is trying to raise awareness, _and_ is providing invaluable insight on the whole situation on how it all works, which helps us combat this.

Thank you Karl. The negativity is overwhelming for sure but his life had him on his knees to make choices. It's hard for westerners to believe that Indians get scammed as well but it's true. I hope Arpan gets off to a better place in life with his honesty.
I am an Indian.. I used to work for a Call Center (a "genuine one") 13 years ago.. I loved my job... I worked there for 3 years... it was hard work.. long hours (it was for an Australia co. and the shift usually started at 4 a.m in the morning) .. we had a fantastic work culture.. During the 2005 Mumbai Deluge I waded thru knee deep water and reached my call center so that there would not be calls in wait.. I've such fond memories of my 3 years there.. NOT ALL INDIAN CALL CENTERS ARE SCAMMERS !

Once i got a similar job about selling call blocking device to australian people. I realised same day that it was a scam when i overheard our group leader asking for debit details. I quit the job. When boss asked me the reason I said "seriously you are asking me" 😂
I can't help but love this kid for being honest and trying to right his wrongs. He has had a hard life and it has humbled him. I'm glad he seems to be thriving with this second chance.

Karl & West, this was outstanding. Thank you both for this. It's eye opening to see that there were probably so many that didn't even realize they were working for scammers at the beginning stages of their employment.
I hope Arpun stays safe. He has done what people do- whatever it takes to eat and provide for oneself. His choices are not much different from anyone whom is desperate, take what is available. Humans will sacrifice their dignity in favor of food, that is a fundamental truth. Doesn’t make that person a bad person, also it can be a reflection of the country’s politics - to be sure. Also birth circumstances can be difficult to overcome, no matter what country of birth.. Arpun has uncommon courage!

@lalala lalala true. Do you know the reasoning why poorer people have a lot of children? Is it because of religion or culture making people believe they have to? I have never understood this. Here in the US some people believe women are wasted if they never have children but I chose to only have kids later in life once we we're financially stable. I have friends who had children younger and they continue to struggle financially to this day.. So much unnecessary suffering. 💔 And I notice some of the poorest populations are always the most overpopulated. 😢

I'm so glad you did this interview. I watch a lot of these "scam the scammer" channels and I sometimes literally cringe when young Americans start abusing these young scammers some of who are not even aware that they are working for a scam company. And where about 80% share a very similar background with Arpun. I am not condoning scamming in any way but what Americans have to understand is that young Indian youth do not have the "luxury" of being a waiter, washing cars etc because these jobs pay you like less than a dollar per day and there's no way to survive. Do call them out, yes, but always be polite and sympathetic. I think this would achieve a lot more than cussing them out And remember, it's the people at the top who are the real crooks. Those are the ppl you can cuss left and right and hopefully bring them down. Thank you Karl Rock for your tremendous work. And to Jim Brown too. I really appreciate you both for your mature approach to this most terrible crime.
I’ve heard some pretty foul mouthed scammers 🤦♀️especially toward women..they target elderly people and have literally scared some to DEATH ! Maybe this will help you understand the anger from the west !!!
@@fjedits007 Even as an Indian I disagree with that. The scammers are spreading something worse than just negativity ... They are the cause for a lot of hatred against other legit call centres which aren't scamming. Karl is actually helping India identify these people.
Karl is doing India HUGE favors. Honestly, Karl is even overprotective of India. The last thing Karl is doing is anything damaging to India: he is fighting to make it a better place for Indians, as well as for everyone else.

This guy is perhaps the only "scammer" I feel genuinely bad for. Because unlike most scammers, at least he's being honest and forthcoming with the struggles of his life growing up. I hope he's doing better now!
Nice interview and props to Arpan for leaving the scam. I also heard about these bonds that you have to sign to stay for quite some while in their scam business before you're allowed to leave. Also that's a really low salary 7k INR per month but maybe as teen without big expenses it might be enough.
Thanks NeeP. 7k is really low and would be difficult to survive on. You'd be barely surviving I think. They're still offering such shit wages to underage workers and workers in smaller cities too.
Gopal Kanodia I thought his face would of been blurred also. Maybe this was filmed long ago and that call centre got shut down. I was being called from scam India fake cra calls since oct 2019 and I know a lot of them got shut down. So I’d assume they got shut down

I’m very shocked at how not only brave this person is to come front to talk about an issue that not a lot of people would like to acknowledge exists (poverty forces people to be in that kind of situations) but this person is incredible for having a conscience despite his life was pretty shit and had to survive. Most people had to shut off their conscience to do what they need to do. Amazing interview.
Every country has the same...kids going through the samething. We dont feel bad for them when they come to us and tell us as adults. They often go to crime but not on the entire world
Interesting video. It’s amazing that Karl Rock is highlighting the scourge of India. For us persons of Indian origin living in Britain, it’s awful that people would think of our motherland in this horrible way and destroy its reputation as spiritual and peaceful country. When I get the scam calls, I keep them on hold for as long as I can before telling them to ‘try and do something good in their lives’
I watch tons of scambaiting vids and after seeing this, I kind of feel that some scammers don't have a choice. And for that, I feel super super sorry or them. Shout out to Arpun for sharing his past, it's a very very complicated society.

I'm a Bengali from Kolkata, mate (though I work at an university in Ireland now) and I cannot thank you enough for doing this. I have seen too many old people, particularly vulnerable ones who are not competent with technology, scammed out of disturbing amounts of money.
I’m not sure if this is recent video, but it seems that even scammers call centers are ill equipped & India is under funded to handle a potential crisis.. such as covid19. Stay well rock

My dad my relate his mum died 3 and his dad wen he was 14 also he was all alone he ended up bring looked after his brothers who wete only 18 and younger they struggled for money did wat they cud.
Thank you for this content. Its obvious that the desperation, in terms of finding work, leads many innocent youth to pursue this type of work. That being said, its hard to blame them. The organizers are clearly the ones to go after. However, Indian politics and caste system are so against the poor. It may be more worth yours and other activists time to go after politicians and fat cats in India who are really the ones benefitting from this type of corruption, no?
