Pretty surprised how good this did. That "Whistle" sound is coming from those petals flying though the air. Not being a solid HP round, those petals are kinda like a Wiffle-Ball. When it gets hit hard enough, they also make an unusual sound. Say what ya want, these worked as advertised, and did the job! Would I carry them? NO. Not enough energy for me, but would hurt like hell when they hit. 💥

Great video! The center core weight is about equal to the weight of a .380 ACP bullet. I’m actually impressed by the RIP round. I thought it was a stupid gimmick, but you have shown it really is devastating.

Here's the thing - flesh isn't ballistic gel - it's just a consistent way to measure. In the real world, the "trochars" will make an incredibly nasty wound ... just under the skin. And, the center projectile doesn't expand. So you when you trade a hollow point for one of these, you're trading for a smaller hole where the hole needs to be and a really ugly surface wound. It's the real world equivalent of a few heavy birdshot and a baby FMJ inside. They're lethal. They're just as lethal as a cheap FMJ, just with more near-surface trauma. I'd still take a JHP any day of the week.

these "surface wound / just under the skin" claims...must be apparent 900 lb - 1200 lbs threats? The distance from outside the skin, to vitals - at thorax...averages ~1 - 1.5"...and with the +\- can be up to 2.5". They are right there. Not behind 12" of rubber block. A 3-4" diameter cavity extending from 2 - 5" deep...is way more than whatever little scab on the skin, or "it's just a flesh-wound" it gets painted as. That sort of damage is a severe problem, concerning normal organ function. The G2 ammo is ridiculously weak, though. 350 ft# is bottom of the barrel. If they could get it to 600 ft#, it'd be a no-brainer vs jhp. But that would mean 1300 fps, not 1000. This would be the round to use if going with a can. Perfect for that. The best, in fact...other than the whistling maybe.

@@echofoxtrotwhiskey1595 proven? - Proven to provide hours and hours of dash & bodycam footage of assailants absorbing 3, 4, 6 or 12 rounds and hardly even showing an effect in that moment. - Proven to slip & glide through at least 12" of gel ... but also put out a parachute to stop before going beyond 18", of the gel? ...all at the expense of otherwise doing maximum damage in the 3 - 9" region...which is where the vitals actually are. Not behind a foot of rubber block. NIH published study shows they are 1 - 1.5" deep from skin at thorax, out to as much as perhaps 2.5" at the high-end sized person. The design resulting from "that" agency and in order to pass that certain test, has most surely affected how companies engineer projectiles. And they are not designing for damaging tissue, but rather for getting a passing grade on the test to say "proven". And to which people parrot "gotta go that deep to reach the vitals", and then ascribe the word "duty" to them because..."well that FBI said so".

Truth is the circumstances and your specific actions in a self defense situation, like whether you could have retreated or whether you kept shooting after the threat was neutralized, etc. are whats going to matter if you are taken to trial.

Thanks for this test Tools! I'll take it over most expanding bullets but it's far from my favorite as well. I feel Civil Defense does something similar but with greater energy, velocity, and TSC even comparing this .45 load to Libertys 9mm. I agree with the aggressive marketing as well. RIP is too much. It might even be slightly more popular if they named it something else.

I heard the whistling with only 1 earbud in. Successful if you purchase based on their claim. This would make a great close quarters varmint round. I was < 5 yards from a coyote with a 9mm earlier this week. This would be more effective than a JHP. So, this might have farm and hunting applications. Also, less penetration might be good for apartment dwellers. So, good for some peoples needs 👍

45 has an expansion problem anyway and I only really like the hydroshock deep at 210 grains and then the Gold Dot 200 short barrel. The hydro shocks don't come out powerful & they don't open big but ,they open and they go deep usually. Not in short barrel 380 or short-barrel 38 special .

Looks like a possible subsonic option...if it will reliably cycle at those low powers. As far as maximizing energy & surface-area damaging in gel, if there's a better .45 acp round for when using a can, I haven't seen it.

I'm always amazed that a reviewer will get an ammo that does EXACTLY WHAT IT PROMISES and said reviewer is still not happy. Bottom line is this: If this ammo was called "124 grain love missile" then EVERYBODY WOULD CARRY IT because it is the ONLY ammo that does EXACTLY WHAT IT PROMISES. Turns out 2a guys are more worried about "looking cool in the court room" versus actually doing the very thing that they scream bloody murder over. The right to bear arms. I'd rather have a good ol' HST, Gold Dot or some V Crown. No doubt a surgeon would hate to see someone coming who was on the wrong end of this but if i was wanting this type of effect i think i'd just get a judge and load it up with some number 4 birdshot. I won't be doing that anytime soon though. I did hear that weird ricochet type of a sound in there by the way. Good entertainment and still another good test. I can't knock the fact they did what they were supposed to, and surprisingly well. That said, I still have an issue with getting behind these. Call it being set in my ways, but I'll still just stick with good old HSTs. I'd love to see what they do through barriers. Im guessing theyll struggle compared to a conventional cup and core.

Good test Tools. I wouldn't run these because of the gimmick design, HST/Gold Dot for me. ...but Its too bad you can't ever have any discussion about these rounds because folks will turn to QANON-level delusions about what will happen to them if they load this into their carry-gun... There has never been a single case in US Court history of a gun-owner being charged with a crime SOLELY based on the name of the ammo-line they had in their gun when they were in a defensive shooting. Why in the world RU-vid commenters became absolutely-convinced that this is a valid concern is perplexing me.

I think the RIP would be a lot better if the pedals did NOT break off and they only bent out 90 degrees. That would be quite a round. Also God forbid I ever had to use my CCW against a 2 legged threat I do not want to go to court having used a round called R.I.P. I have been to court and attorneys will do anything they can to burry you.

I heard that weird sound on 3 out of the 5 from the long barrel. I wonder if the weird nose shape causes accuracy problems if the round is pushed supersonic and that is why they made them high sub-sonic? Yeah I can't really imagine very many people surviving getting hit with this stuff. Those pedals spreading out in that gel look like you would be hitting multiple organs. Tons of internal bleeding. I wouldn't want to use this stuff for self-defense. Just because I want to save myself and stop someone from hurting me doesn't mean I want to guarantee their death. So I personally just could not use this stuff. I'll stick with my HST as I usually say.

I know there are folks out here saying 'I've been looking for something like this!'...honestly, I can see where the ammo might be effective, as that pattern of the petals very likely to tear into something vital on a torso shot...as you note, there are questions about defending this kind of ammo in court, and does the ammo feed reliably (sample of 5 not quite enough to determine for sure)...I don't see myself rushing out to buy a box, but I gotta admit I don't want to get hit by this either...

The question I’ve always had was how effective all those separated petals are in penetrating a rib cage and damaging vital organs? Haven’t heard of autopsy’s evaluating bullets like this effectiveness.
