Exodus releases their follow up to Blood in Blood out, Persona Non Grata. We'll review the album, find out if it's a new killer or just more filler. Rodney talks about the performances on Personan Non Grata, as well as how Personan Non Grata sits in the history of the Exodus Thrash metal discography.
Exodus are arguable the founding band of the Bay Area Thrash Metal Scene, and have been seen as teh torch bearers of the Thrash Metal Legacy. Let's see if they still hold the torch, or have passed it to a new generation of Thrash metal bands.

Lunatic Liar Lord Classic groovy aggressive attitude on the riff, it's simpler and more mid tempo plus can't beat that chorus Zetro sounds best on that one as well. Most well rounded IMO

Love the album from start to finish. I think Gary finally focused on Exodus and wasn't distracted by touring with Slayer and you can clearly hear it 😊

Album crushes. Just got it yesterday, still spinning it between bursts of adulting. Jack's tone is sick af. A lifelong fan, i admit Blood In, Blood Out was a little disappointing as I'd come to really dig Dukes vox. Zetro belts out some brutality here though and it's almost a comforting callback to Tempo. Guitars are amazing. Hunolt coming back for solos warmed my heart, man. In all, delicious thrash to my earholes. 10 out of 10.

Crushing album, together with all their others. What I love about Exodus is that they're sharp lyrically as well, and they heavily step into some territory that other bands don't have the courage - Children Of a Worthless God, Honour Killings, Prescribing Horror, to name a few songs, really mercilessly pummel their respective subjects. Together with Overkill the most consistent and simply best sounding thrash band to this day. Pure balls, no nonsense.

You gave some great advice recently, Rodney: alternate your plucking fingers 1-2-3, 1-2-3.... I do it 1-2, 1-2, but it's working out well and I'm covering some stuff easily (relatively) now that a few months ago gave me fits. Thanks!

I like how Zet uses hints of vocal melody that you might hear on Force Of Habit but still keeping that classic Zet high growl.

Whole album is awesome, not a skip track on it. When they released the first song my first thought was “this short and in your face song just single handedly destroyed their last album”. “This is gonna be good”. And it’s still my fave on the album, that said I could throw a dart on the track list of this album and hit gold. Even the slower songs are great which is unusual for me. I’m more of a “let’s start at 210 bpm and go up from there” kind of guy but Prescribing Horror and The Years Of Death and Dying are anthems. Hail Exodus 🤘

It's going to be hard picking favorites. The title track for me is the straight adrenaline kick. That one gets played a few times in a row!

First may I say this was an excellent review . No nonsense to the point . I just listened to the first 3 tracks and you're dead on . I've been a fan of Exodus since the early 90s . When nothing was more uncool than Heavy Metal especially Thrash Metal . I actually bought a Exodus comp record in the dollar bin at Wherehouse music ( if you remember that place lol ) . I hear a combination of early writing with an advanced combination of the Rob Dukes era. Great bass tone . The entire band as a matter of fact . I just came back to say you really nailed it here . I'm going back to listen to track 4 . Much respect . From one bassist and old school Metalhead to another .

I'll check it out, you've made me curious. It's been a while since I've listened to new Exodus material. Tom Hunting is one of my favourite thrash metal drummers, he's a beast! He has a very unique feel and timing which sets him apart, aside from being technically proficient.

@@RodneyMcG Oh yeah, definitely. And he's at the same level as Dave, Charlie, and Gene. If I had to pick an all-star thrash metal band, he'd be the drummer. Even at breakneck speed he still doesn't sound rushed, it's all under control. Almost like a laid back feel. And then there's his fills; it's like there are 2 drummers playing at once. One to keep the time, and the other to play the fills. It's just that vibe.

Good morning rodney. I assaulted your LIKE button again. I spinning back kicked this fucker right in the liver. R1 TKO. While I am here, I also am glad to say I have given Exodus a 2nd chance as I did with Overkill. I didn't really click with them at first because the vocals were an acquired taste. I have since acquired some taste. I will be sure to give this record a listen and in my opinion this band seems to have improved with age unlike certain others. I hope you know that your videos have been a godsend after the worst fucking week of my life. Thank you and I hope you are doin good.

It’s an immediate onslaught of aggression from the get-go, which is exactly what I expected from these guys. It honestly caught me off guard in the beginning, so it took me a handful of listens from front-to-back to fully absorb the preverbal “baseball bat to the face” that is Gary and Tom. It’s an excellent album and I legitimately haven’t stopped listening to it over the last week or so. Exodus is one of my favorite bands of all time, so to have an album like this, especially in the year 2021, is a genuine treat. I hope Gary has at least one left in the tank, because the band is on fire for sure. I’d give it an 8.5/9 out of 10. I’d change a very small handful of minor things, which is just based on personal opinion, but overall it’s basically a flawless Exodus record. 👍💪👍

A very strong return, killer Riffs, Zetro sounds better than he has in years, and just really solid songwriting over all. Apart from Elitist and maybe Clickbait, it's a pretty consistent album with a few new favourites for sure. Production is fine, though maybe a little too modern and clean, though it's certainly no deal breaker... 8.5 out of 10 I'd say!

It's definitely not as good as anything they did with Rob. I like Zetro but he's cheesy, and collaborating with chuck berry is not helping them. Bring on the 🧀.
