Well, after my first night out with this I am happy to report that it was the best nights sleep I have probably ever had. Incredible comfort, probably better than my brand new twin mattress at home. I hope this thing lasts, because it's very good at what it does. Highly recommended and 2 thumbs way up. Worth every penny.
@@Alycedable Our family owns 8 exped mats, 3 megamat, one megamat duo, and 5 backpacking and synmats. I am pretty sure the Max15 is comparable to the Megamat 12. You won't be disappointed. We get better nights sleep on Expeds than our $3000. memory foam mattresses. None of our mats leak air, some after 8 years and hundreds of nights out camping.
@@MeMe-cd1wy thanks for the feedback! We ended up buying two for my husband and myself and I was very happy with the sleep quality, comfier than most hotel mattresses.
WE bought two of these a couple years ago and have no regrets. Yes they are expensive, but honestly, the alternative was buying an RV because we are old and achy. :)
I’m an Exped fanatic. Swear by their stuff. Exped and Thermarest IMO are the best bar none when it comes to sleeping mats. If your doing a bike tour however there’s only two mats I would recommend. If it’s depth of pad, go for the Thermarest Topo luxe. I’ve the large and it’s the same size as the Exped Megamat but rolls to about 6” thick by about 8-10” long. Which is small. If your after warmth and durability go Thermarest Xtherm Max in large. IMO it’s the best camping Mat there is. You lose heat 3x faster through the ground than air, so if your gonna invest go with a top end mat rather than bag. If I can help with anything advice wise feel free to contact me. If I can’t help I will know someone who can.
Given that you are relying on the memory of the internal foam for self-inflation, it will not matter a damn whether or not the deflation port is open or closed - until you use a pump on it - then it needs to be closed. It may even speed things up to leave it open. What would have speeded things up would have been to do the self-inflation in a warm space rather than a cold garage floor.
The first time I inflated it, it took some time and yes the cold garage didn't help, but on a sunny day this thing self inflates pretty fast now and the little hand pump that comes with it makes the rest of top off easy.
For what it is worth I bought the little Exped battery powered pump and it is excellent - makes adjusting pressure to suit our individual preferences quick and easy; we have a pair of them to make a slightly under sized Queen bed in our caravan - they save us about 25kg of weight over the original mattress and they are also much better insulated. Looking forward to trying them - when released from COVID lockdown !
Your statement is not clear. You mean you don't need to do anything with the toggle to inflate the mattress, or you don't need to do anything in addition to inflating with the toggle? Either way - to clarify toggle use, here is an excerpt direct from the manufacturer's instructions: "Inflation: - For first time use allow the mat to partially self inflate by opening the inflation valve and inserting the toggle attached to the inflation valve cap." - In normal use... [abridged] ... To speed up inflation of the mat, insert the toggle..."
