I'm glad to see your warranty covered your repairs. Mine did not. I had Carshield warranty on my Porsche Panamera. It was a complete scam and ripoff. Coolant sensor went bad. They denied the claim. Probably because it cost a thousand dollars to repair. The cam adjusters went bad they denied that claim too because it cost $3000 to repair. I Happily canceled that policy. They have an escape clause in the fine print that allows them to deny any claim they want. Unfortunately, I didn't read the print. What sense does it make to pay for a extended warranty and pay the repair bill too?
Shit. I just got started paying for my extended warranty through CarShield for my 2009 Cayenne GTS with 45K miles. What reasons did they give you for denying your claims on the Panamera?
@@LoveIsExtinct the answer to your question will be hard to make short. That's why it's so lengthy. With CarShield, the devil is in the details. Even worst if you apply over the phone like I did. This means you can't read the fine print until after you already paid them and they mail it to you. Even then, you won't know CarShield is worthless until you file your first "major" claim. The earlier you file one, the sooner they'll have to expose themselves allowing you to salvage what you can, cancel them and run away. 1) When you sign up with CarShield you pay them for the first month free! Because you are not allowed to file a claim until after 30 days or until after you add 1000 more miles to the car. This means you get no service during this time even though you must still pay them for absolutely nothing. That's just a free money grab for them. 2) My first claim: (2 months after signing up with CarShield) my motor blew out due to a part unknown to me at the time because it's internal. I was so happy I had CarShield but that happiness ended quickly as it turns out to be an extremely false sense of security. I called CarShield and asked for a wrecker to take it to the Porsche dealer. The dealer determined it was the cam adjusters in the motor. They broke at the bolts. The full job cost about $4000 to replace because you can't just replace the bolts they are built into the part itself. You have to replace the whole thing. CarShield sent their own mechanic to the Porsche dealer to search for anything to avoid paying the claim. He decided to use a clause hidden in the contract fine print that allows them to deny any claim if it's associated with a broken bolt even if it's not your fault. Even if it's inside the motor. It doesn't matter. All they have to do is find a broken bolt and you get denied! End of story. The dealer called them and told them the bolts in the cam adjusters are not separate from the part. You can't buy them separately. So it's not the bolt that broke, it's the whole part is broke. CarShield didn't care. They didn't want to pay that $4000 so they denied it. Fortunately for me (2 months later) Porsche decided to recall and replaced that part on all Panameras for free and reimbursed me the money I had to pay out of my own pocket. Thank God for Porsche! Because CarShield left me hung out to dry. 3) Remember that wrecker that took my car to the shop? The advertising says CarShield will pay for it? Well, they did not. I had to pay that myself too after they denied the claim. Also, if you call a wrecker, it better be a short haul. They only cover a few miles. You have to pay for the rest out of your own pocket. However in my case, CarShield paid nothing. I had to pay it all! I found that out after the wrecker completed the service. 4) The coolant sensor (2nd claim) went out. This caused my... 5) ...Auto stop-start system (3rd claim) to stop working. I called CarShield and filed both claims. They said they don't replace coolant sensors. The advertising says they do replace sensors. Obviously that's a lie. So if they won't replace my coolant sensor, that means my other system won't work untill that sensor is replaced because it relies on information sent from that part in order to work. Again CarShield didn't care. They denied it. They wouldn't even negotiate to pay half. I had to pay the full $1000 myself. 6) I decided to sue them. My lawyer told me they can't be sued because by simply signing up with them you automatically waive your right to sue them. This means they already knew they will be sued so they slipped that clause into the fine print to protect them. 7) I tried to report them to the BBB. But again, the fine print forbids that and allows them to sue you if you do. They only allow you to report them to the one specific BBB of their own choice. The one they have an agreement with. 8) It makes absolutely no sense to pay both CarShield and pay for your own repairs. That means you're paying double to get the car fixed. That what happens when they deny you. The repairs actually cost you more because you're paying them and the mechanic instead of just the mechanic. They bust my head three times in a row before I learned. 9) My lawyer and I went over the contract together and he said the way the contract is worded CarShield can deny any major claim it wants at will. There are clauses in the contract designed to protect CarShield more than it protects the customer. For the sake of God! Go get your contact out and read what is NOT covered and how that translates to most of the car. You'll find they only cover about 20% of your car. Anything more requires divine intervention. That's why they don't mind warranting an expensive Porsche. They hope you don't file a claim for 12 or more months. By that time they've collected lots of cash and then they'll deny your claim and hope you're stupid enough to stick around and keep paying them until they deny your next claim. They won't care if you cancel at that point because they already have a full year of your money and refunds are heavily prorated in their favor. Then they'll just move on to the next victim. I cancelled them before they bust my head a 4th time. 10) They only approve the minimum amount of claims per year to avoid heat from the federal government's anti-fraud laws. So getting your claim approved is no different than a lottery ticket. You just have to hope you get lucky. They have people on the payroll who get paid to deny your claim. They do a great job of it. I decided it was cheaper to put the money I was paying them into a personal maintenance account. At least when something major happens the money is still there and I can't get denied.

@@LoveIsExtinct You're welcome Sir. I have no problem telling people about CarShield. They are a rip-off unless you have some cheap minor issue. If I can save one person from getting screwed by them like they did me, I'm cool with that. There will always be someone who got a new engine approved by CarShield but I would bet the farm that it wasn't a Porsche engine and most of us will not be that lucky.
Just bought a GTS, but already getting occasional smell of burning coolant. No drips underneath and at first no sign at all of coolant loss at all, but noticed after a couple of weeks that the level in the reservoir got to the low fill mark. So ultra slow leak wherever it is. Already had wheel liners out when I cleaned the drains and no sign of a leak anywhere but now need to take the undertrays out to see better under there. Hopefully I can track it down. I plan to do all my own service on it since I have access to hydraulic lift, tools, etc.
You don't need to take out the wheel well buddy to drain the bulkhead. It's a literal two minute fix without tools that keeps the AC outlet free too. See my Porsche Tech Tips playlist. Regarding your pipes, they could be weeping especially if they're plastic but are easier to fix than you may think. Give me a should as I'd be happy to help where possible.
iVlogBuzz thanks for the tip, will check it out. It’s a 957 so no usual problematic plastic coolant tube like on the 955. Got an endoscope in there and the leak appears the be coming from the cooling distributor/jacket on the back of the motor, except is leaking at the connection from coolant distributor to the back of the block, and not from the hose fitting on the same distributor where others are seeing the glue fail. I’ve been eyeballing it for over a month now and actually seems like it is possibly slowing down which seems weird but as long as it’s not getting worse, I’ll live with it.
That's a bad sign that means it could be a head gasket issue. If your burning the coolant that means its getting into combustion chamber ie. headgaskets. Hopefully its not being burned.
I have a 2012 Q7 with coolant pipe leak, had it fixed for a fraction of the price from what the local autoshop/dealership would charge. Part was $150 and labor $100 (mobile mechanic).

I have a 2005 Porsche Cayenne S v8 that my sister gave to me that she barely only has 56,000 but it's most likely going to have to start costing me some money. Thanks to you I did my own oil change which was not too painful. How much did that policy cost you and can you get those independently which are vehicle is at 60 K
As I mentioned I have a similar leak on my identical CTT. It seems to disappear when I drive the car a lot, then comes back when it sits for a few days. Still diagnosing where it is coming from. $1600 is cheap for a job like this. I bet this is $4000 at the dealer. Quite a bit of work. I'm surprised you didn't tackle it yourself but I suppose the warranty drove your decision.
Man!! That warranty was a lifesaver!! Have you made your money back on it yet? Is it something you purchased independently or was it pitched by the dealership you bought the Cayenne from?
Car Fanatic well, you seem to be on track to getting your money’s worth out of it, hopefully more. Or not, since that means the reliability of the Cayenne is not what we’d like to see. But it’s best that the warranty is there.
+K1dPhresh1 yup, I'd like to get all the wear and tear components replaced before the warranty expires. If not, great. I want the car to be reliable, so I can keep it longer. It's a great SUV that can do it all..with some compromises of course.
Car Fanatic indeed. If the “wear and tear” gets resolved before the expiration of the warranty, do you foresee keeping it longer? Or is it one of those that aren’t worth it because it’s just too expensive to own out of warranty?
Do you regret buying the Cayenne? It seems like it's been a trouble prone vehicle. Maintenance isn't too bad, but repairs are costly. The price of the coolant is a good example.
+Jeff Ross some days I do. Other days I don't. All in all, it's been a very fun SUV to drive. I love the power, big heavy feel, yet nimble handling for an SUV.
Do you change Coolant in your Cayenne Turbo? If yes how often and which kind? G40 or other? Not sure which coolant to use to top off low coolant? Any suggestions?
My Cayenne S had the plastic pipes burst and the coolant basically dries out the starter bearing and it also leaks through the bell housing as you mentioned and that dries out the torque converter seal, have you had any issues with either yet?
I have been thinking about getting a Cayenne for a while. But looking at the regular repairs it just not worth it. My BMW has ran great for 3 years with no issues...but these Cayennes seem to need regular repairs to broken and damaged parts too often.

Check your local independent Porsche repair shops as some offer extended warranty plans. I have 2010 GTS now with 73k miles, that I picked up with 53k miles about a year and a half ago. I looked into warranty as well but they either weren't offered for it, or it was wishy-washy sounding coverage. I looked at it as a risk I was willing to take on with the knowledge of knowing the top issues you may encounter. Those were cardan shaft bearing, cracked/failing coils, and possible failure of the glued barb fitting for the coolant hose on the driver's side of the coolant manifold. I can say after 20k miles it has been pretty great vehicle and hasn't left me on the side of the road on some pretty long road trips, but now am seeing sort of a double whammy. Had a coil fail which I knew was going to happen sooner or later, so replaced them all myself which was super easy. And now have a coolant leak on driver's side which I am about 90% sure is coming from that coolant manifold. I'm normally do my own repairs, but feeling lazy so I may pay my local Porsche mechanic to do it. I'm expecting a $1k repair at least. After that though all that's left is the cardan bearing which is a $400 permanent fix and there isn't really much left to go wrong that. I expect to get 150k miles out of it easy.
Hello mate. Got a few questions about the 957 Cayenne turbo. Mine has squeaking sounds you hear when driving really slow. There is a rear differential crack on bushing. Could that cause it
@@CarFanatic I hear a rubbing noise from time to time coming from underneath the drivers wheel. Only comes when turning to the left not sure what it could be. Control arms were replaced by previous owner.
I have a 958.1 GTS, and I get a weird engine squeal between 2000-3000 RPM when the car is warm mostly from the right side, not related to TC or transmission because I get it even on neutral, didnt get such noise in the previous 20K km of ownership; any idea?
Car Fanatic yes it becomes a faster squeal under load, but mostly heard between 2-3K RPM, car now got 54K KM on the clock, dont think it sounds like a belt, pully wont stop whining after 3K RPM right!, It is annoying

However, you never know when a company will screw you over to avoid paying a $20k bill. So far, I have not had any issues getting anything covered.
