Watch this side-splitting Oiran Courtesan Performance entitled “Wakamatsu-ya” from Edo Wonderland in Nikko Edomura. In this tale of an aristocrat looking for love in the red-light district of Edo, an oiran courtesan tells the story with a fusion of comedy and authentic oiran traditions. In the Edo Period, oiran were only accessible to a very small section of upper society. With participation from the audience, this visually stunning and humorous story unfolds on stage when the deep secret of Odaijin, the rich Edo Yoshiwara client, is revealed to his Tayū.
