Only if you guys know the pain the Oiran is bearing. She's literally carrying 30 kilograms on heer body right now. The headdress weighs 10kgs while the clothes weigh 20kgs. And yet she has to walk in that hellishly precise way. Damn, being a high-class prostitute in Japan is an eternal pain.
@@ultron374 of course it no longer is a profession, that’s already a given. the models of this show, however, still require painstaking trainings and strength to carry such heavy items during their parades.
Absolutely beautiful! Also, my goodness how much pain umbrella man and the last three ladies must be in! That umbrella looks like it weighs a ton and those girls where pretty much in a half squat the whole time. 😯
They know how to change something simple to glorious way. A prostitution to flashy parade, a simple tea meeting to transcendental ceremony, ink writing to performance show, and nowadays poop to museum.
@@Haplo-san You and the commentator said EXACTLY my thoughts and how I felt while watching that majestic performance ✨ But the last sentence tho... 😶 What is that? never heard of it..
@@المهديشقيقرسولالله The poop museum? It is crazy, make a google search and see yourself. There is also "Japan manhole art", they are turning manhole covers to art pieces. And "stone museuem" called "Hall of Curious Stones" exhibits thousands collected pieces of small rock and stones that look like a face.
$6000 per "date" and there are a total of 5 real Oiran left in Japan, she has right of refusal and will not be "friendly" with you until the third date. Also her social status is well beyond most people. hard life, yes, but it IS compensated and sought after.
The walk was simply a special favour done for some clients at their request. It was more so the client could show off his wealth and his prize (a night with an Oiran) rather than a common way for an Oiran to displace herself. I imagine more discerning clients with a reputation or promises to uphold would have asked that she arrive in a palanquin (which would have hidden her from view). The Oiran Walk is a very obvious an lavish display in all respects, and I doubt it was employed frequently. Oiran had the social status and power to refuse any part of a client, including his wishes, so I imagine that only Oiran who had deep relationships with loyal clients would do this for them. As shown, the procession is arduously slow and difficult, and the constitution of women was not as great as it is today, especially since most (if not all) prostitutes suffered from venereal disease and lack of competent and compassionate care.
@@kvisuals2491 No, no blog, unfortunately. But if you have any questions you would like me to consider, I do have an account with Quora under the same username. You are free to seek me out there if you wish. Thank you for the compliment. :)
Those those asking- it probably doesn’t hurt .. Taiyu / Oiran or おいらの所の姉さん or whatever you want to call it are trained either as Kamuro (before they become an Oiran or trained as a normal Yuujyo ( 遊女 ) before they become an Oiran. Either way it’s all in the process of being in a Yukaku / Harimise (張り見世) (?) and even working there was bothersome. Oiran had to learn how to sing, dance, do ordinary board games etc just basically be the perfect / ideal woman. They probably learned oiran douchuu (花魁道中) aka the Oiran walk. This is normal and they probably trained but it maybe would hurt if they were untrained. This walk in just for showing off the customer’s wealth and status
This is not some talent competition. They're rated on how much money they make for the brothel owner in the... "main event" of visiting brothels. Geishas were the primary musicians/dancers. Yuujyo were the sex workers and usually victims of human-trafficking, and become indentured servants (borderline slaves). If you want to see more of how that was like, just look up "hostess bars." It's has a lot of similarities to the old system, except the bar owners can't legally enslave the women like before, and officially patrons are not paying for sex... officially...
@@alexfrank5331 I don’t think they were saying it was a talent show. Most people know that an Oiran was a high class prostitute, they were talking about what Oirans were trained to do and asking a separate question.
This is false. Oiran are courtesans for the wealthy and trained in the arts including music, calligraphy and poetry. Geisha came second, they started as men who entertained customers as they waited for the Oiran or prostitutes.
I noticed the oiran was allowed to steady herself by placing a hand on one of the men in the procession. Who and what are these men? Are they priests? They aren't garbed like Buddhist or Shinto priests.
They way they move is so graceful and fluid. But it must be agony, especially if it was hot and humid. When they then be expected to work right after that?
@@reqfernando hi happy new year! I am sorry about not having links, I didn’t know about that. I just googled my way into the antique films with oiran / so interesting, that is a custom carried forward to this day.
This takes platform flip flops to a whole new level. I wonder back then when they did this it was like telling the whole street Some luckyguy is about to get laid with this girl right here.
I just saw a latest video of this procession on tiktok and the man that the Oiran was holding on is the same man from 11 years ago. I didn’t know abt this kind if culture but it’s fascinating
Along with the shoes to bump up the elegance and top level status of the oiran. They needed to look as good as possible (and mainly make the guest that could afford the service which is said to be around 30-50k in USD back then) look and feel the part too.
