Yes, please do a howto! Currently running a Pi400 with PiMiga, but your setup goes far more into the direction I want it to be; There's AmiKit but yours looks so much cleaner.
@proteque
@proteque Год назад
PiMiga is great if the goal is only running AmigaOS-stuff, and Chris has done an amazing job with it. But it is not really a daily driver, at least for me. The goal with this one was to be my daily driver and combine that with the feel of the Amiga and the software I use the most from the Amiga. Thanx for watching and commenting. I will indeed make a howto on how it all stitches together.

We used to play Settlers on the Amiga. We had three floppy disks which had to be run before you could boot up the game. They wouldn't work properly every time so when we finally got the game running, we left the computer on for a week while we played the campaign every day after school! Good times!
@proteque
@proteque Год назад
aaah yes. used to do the same on the Amiga 500. Settlers was installable on hard drive so as soon as I bought an Amiga 1200 with HD life got a lot easier :) Good memories from those days when I left the Amiga on for days though. Used to play split screen with a friend for days as well.

I still play the Settlers on my Pc. I did have the first one on my Amiga 1200
@OpenGL4ever
@OpenGL4ever Год назад
The Amiga version of The Settler was written in Motorola 68K assembly code. For the PC port, It was translated into 32-bit protected mode x86 assembly code using a program written in Turbo Pascal specifically to port The Settlers from the Amiga to the PC. This meant that sometimes 1-3 more assembler commands were necessary due to the lack of optimization of the 68K code for the x86 assembly Syntax, which resulted in a little bit larger code for the x86 version. But because of the higher performance of at that time modern 386 and 486 PCs the code still ran faster on the PC than on the Amiga 500.
@proteque
@proteque Год назад
@@OpenGL4ever Some interesting part of history there that I did not know. Thanx for sharing. I need to do some google searches and see if I find the whole story about the porting process.

@@proteque If you understand German you can watch an interview about the developers of Archimedean Dynasty (German title: Schleichfahrt). They also did the port of the Settlers and later after Archimedean Dynasty they created Aquanox 1 and 2. In the interview, they explain in detail, how they ported The settler over from the Amiga to the PC. The interview can be found here on YT on the German YT channel "Stay Forever Podcast". The title of the video is "SCHLEICHFAHRT: Interview mit Oliver Weirich, Ingo Frick und Alexander Jorias (Podcast mit Kapiteln)"

I have started on videos about it. The video on how my fs-uae setup is done is uploaded. So in short fs-uae is sort of the main software on this one. Here is the video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-559xsEb62FU.html Worker (dopus clone) and qmmp (amiga/winamp clone, great for playing mods) should be a part of your distro if it is debian/ubuntu based at least. I plan to make a video about the looks as well. However to answer you I use xfce for this. And after this video someone tipped me about this collection with themes and links to font (topaz) and mouse pointr which may help you out a lot! I havent tested it from this page though. github.com/lordwolfchild/amigaos_xfwm4_themes

I never had an Amiga (back in their heyday my parents opted for a Tandy 1000HX instead), but I've always been fascinated with them. The showcase is nice, but perhaps next time around a clue or two as to how to mimic such a setup? For example I assume the sidebar is just an XFCE panel, but as for the top panel the stock XFCE setup doesn't have all the info displayed that yours does. Were those built-in XFCE modules, or something you grabbed elsewhere and used instead? Sorry if it seems like I'm nitpicking; I'm just looking at it from the perspective of an Amiga layman here.
@proteque
@proteque Год назад
no worries. nitpicking is great when they are like yours and tell me what you miss. I did plan on doing a todo on its own. Was mainly planning on focusing on the integration between the amiga side and the linux side, but your comment makes me think I should include the pure linux-side of it as well. This video was just a "showcase", and ment as an inspiration really. Thanx :)

Hey, I’m not sure if this would work but just an idea maybe in your scripts you could kill the process that is running the emulator so no need to see the window at all when you hit F12 not sure how hard this would be to implement, but it would be a much cleaner solution
@proteque
@proteque Год назад
That would indeed work. The amiga handles stuff like that without a problem. One can also map a custom key to quit fs-uae quite easily. That would be cleaner.

@@proteque main difference is response time of the P212, and colour-range. But they're unobtanium. The Eizo 4:3 1600x1200 monitors are nice, but they don't do 50Hz unless you use the VGA connection. In my A1000 case, I have a Denise based RGB2HDMI adapter, so I'll just use that via HDMI to DVI. The A3000 can go over VGA. And eventually an RTG card in the A3000 can go to the 2nd DVI port.

Hey. The speakers are some random speakers my local electronic shop had. I think it was called creative pebble. The dekstop is called checkmate1500+. It is made by the same guy that made the original Amiga 1500 case back in the days and is inspired by the look of the Amiga 3000. A very nice case!
