honestly, I think it is an awesome idea and probably works too. Since pictures that are laminated stay fresh in resin so maybe this will work... Time will tell, I hope we will see how it works in time, please show us how it kept it's colour.
The wax has already damaged the flower give it a week or 2 and the flower will be brown. It would be better to dry the flower but, this video proved it's point.
I would've liked to see how this looked a couple weeks later, to see if it actually stayed nice looking. I personally use silica gel sand to dry my flowers out before putting them in resin. The silica gel sand is great, because it dries them out in their original shape, and it doesn't usually affect the colours too much. The flowers come out feeling a bit like paper, and they aren't brittle at all... however, I would like to know how this looked a couple weeks later...
Nick zammeti just tried adding flowers to resin over on his channel his results were .............different!!! Maybe u can give him a few tips and tricks on how to add flowers to resin without them going black that daff looks great still
Nick should have dried his daisies first. I honestly don’t think this will work well beyond the short term. The wax will protect the flower from the exothermic reaction of the resin and preserve the color (where Nick went wrong) but the flower will continue to deteriorate inside of the wax and resin. It will be interesting to see how long it lasts though!
@@Heartwing37 I remember QVC selling some kind of liquid you dipped roses in to preserve them ‘forever’. I wondered even then if it would do what it said on the tin, but I think probably not. Wish I could see what any flowers dipped in it back then would look like now lol
I've seen other channels dehydrate the flowers in silica gel which helps to preserve the colour when placed in the resin. The colour changes a bit since the water is taken out, but it doesn't go black.
Very interesting, glad u tried this and that it worked, I have always wanted to find a way to preserve the natural color of a fresh flower without having to dry it first. I love how these look, they turned out awesome!
I'm so jealous you got your spring cleaning done! I'm still on the fence about getting rid of mine. 🤣🤣🤣 Love your projects. I can't think of an experiment right now, but any would be welcomed. Be well.
Always so happy to see a new Resin Ace video!! The flowers look beautiful! Do they continue to hold up over time, or eventually go brown? And, yes, definitely want to see more experiments!!
I absolutely LOVE your captioning so fun!! I would love to see updates here, as I am wanting to preserve whole flowers without drying them. I have seen people use silica (you can also use silica cat litter for the cheap option) and they turn out rather beautiful... YES PLEASE more experiments. :D good grief what a stream of consciousness. Hope it is not too painful to read :D
I will post updates to Instagram periodically. That daffodil had been in the cube a week before I got round to de-moulding it so it's definitely being preserved to some extent ♠
@@resinAce Wow a week and still no browning.. looks like this could be a winner!!! I don't use Instagram (old fart here) but I may have to have a nose in a few weeks :D
Your jokes are horrible! I absolutely love them! I'm fascinated with how you don't use overused or widely known jokes. As a seasoned joke teller it's refreshing to hear new jokes that make me laugh. (then I can torment my friends and family with them 😂)
You saved 2 small bubbles in the square resin piece. I am soooooooooooooo proud of you. Can I be even more patronising? I could try... What I'd like to see is a video of how you calculate resin for the size of receptacle you're using. You gave a tip before but there has to be a way to measure resin that even I can do or do you sometimes have resin left over? Or do you not make enough and have to make more?
That’s something I would love to know as well please, I always seem to have less so end up doing a 2nd pour, ok if clear but not good if I add colour as it always seems to show it and not for good reasons x
So I'll have to revisit my maths O level? Can I still calculate the volume of an orb or any other shape? I doubt it but I learned it once at 15 I'm sure I can learn it again albeit 48 years later. I'll be back when I have the answer but I might be gone a long time!
What I do sometimes is pour water into my mold then measure that out then I try to make that much resin. It's not always super exact but I guess it's better than pouring blindly.
Gostaria de saber como ficará após algumas semanas. Você poderia fazer algum experimento envolvendo secar plantas para colocar dentro da resina. Já tentei secar no micro-ondas e no forno e não funcinou.
How long do you have to wait from curing the resin to adding another layer on top?. Also how long do you the hardener in for?. I am a newby and just bought myself some resin. Regards.
Yet again a wonderful video, this is something I’d love to do as my mother loves daffodils but as I’m new to it, please could u send the round one it would be ideal for cheering her up 😆😆.....I’m still loving the jokes as well, but I think the lockdown may be a contributing factor lol.... stay safe x
For pieces like the globe shape, how do you effectively remove all the flashing created by the two halves of the mold. What is your process for clean up and finishing?
Beautiful. I love the jokes. I try to guess the answers but lately, you've had me questioning my thought process. LOL Thank you very much for sharing :-)
I wish Nick Zametti saw your video before he tried this project without the wax. He was very unhappy with his results. The hot resin removed the colors of the 4 different types of fresh flowers he picked. It's a learning experience though
Not to be rude of anything but if he had done some research first he would've known better. It's a widely known fact in the resin world that fresh flowers don't fare well in resin, a simple googling would've told him that.
I've seen dried flowers in resin but a daffodil is not easy to dry out so wax is a neat way to go! Perhaps this might work with tulips as well? I tried to dry out pretty tulip petals but they lost their vibrant colours before I could use them...
@@resinAce I tried with sand in the owen, it crushed most of the flowers. I then heard those tiny absorbtion pouches you get in shoeboxes etc are better, the problem is I rarely buy stuff so it would take forever to get enough for even a small flower.
Have you tried drying them by hanging them upside down in a dark place? I have a shelf dedicated to flower drying in my wardrobe. That way they retain their shape. Whether it retains its colour depends on the flower though.
I've got a vole skull that i want to suspend in resin somehow but I'm not sure how - any ideas for design and/or technique? (The mandibles are separate from the upper skull so I'm not sure how to keep them aligned)
Ky look at doing it in several pours, do a base pour that you then sit the lower mandible on, then place the mandible and do another pour, then align and place the skull and do another pour leaving enough of the top of the skull for you to be able to keep it place by suspension or whatever means you choose and then do a final pour to cover, as long as you do it with clear resin or make sure your mixes are exact you wont see any difference in the layers, this method also makes it much easier to get rid of any air bubbles with a heat source if you dont have a pressure pot, there are plenty of videos around of these methods for you to watch first. Hope that is of help
Love your videos, but can you answer me this, why does my cubes look discoloured when I take them out, all moulds are cleaned and are dust free but always come out looking rubbish.
I really don't know. The surface of the mould will transfer to the surface of the resin, so if you have a shiny, smooth mould you should end up with shiny, smooth resin casts.
@@resinAce thanks for getting back mate, it was a brand new cube mould, it was quite dull, is there something I can use to make it shiney before putting in resin? Sorry for all the questions but I'm fairly new to this.
Try it with a butterfly. Their wings are impossible to cast because they seem to be too porous and the amount of small bubbles is staggering, destroying what they'd look like. (You may already know this part, but I confuse these epoxy channels together sometimes).
No daffodils were harmed in the making of this video. Is it possible to allow the wax to cool a bit before dipping the flowers? What about mod podge? Or regular school glue? There was definitely a somberness to this video. Poor wee daffodils.
