In this fast-paced world, even though I'm in my 70's, it takes me a minute to slow down and enter your quiet, intuitive, calm world. Then I relax and and thoroughly enjoy being with you. Thank you for making these videos. They really inspire me to paint fromm heart!

It took a guts to dive into this experiment and post the video showing all the trials and tribulations. Serendipity came to mind as I watched you salvage the prints.

Hi Fulton, If you use your mat as a clean off sheet for your brayer you may land up with some nice acrylic skins for collage. Love your videos, thank you so much.

Hi Fulton, I learned so much from this video. Your patience and willingness to preserve is second to none. Watching you proceed into “damage control,” was an interesting and valuable art lesson. The results are organic, unique with images that captures the imagination. Thank you for all you share and teach us. Love them all.🙏🏻❤️❤️

You are never afraid of experimenting new things. We learn so much from you. Maybe letting less time before pulling in the first paper will avoid the tearing? The collage was very helpful. Don't think I will use the vinyl but I really appreciate your effort to show us different options.

I loved this video. It is filled with clever problem solving using color, shape, movement, and collage. I found myself solving along with you, engaged at the edge of my seat; so fabulous for critical thinking skills. I think the results are quite nice. My favorites were the use of gold and the collage - black marks on disappearing tissue. Thank you-I know this wasn’t an easy one, but quite a success, to my mind.

Such a great idea! I wondered if more successful by using " open acrylic" giving slower drying time so that image could transfer but not dry and paper stick to surface. Also quicker timing with placing and lifting paper. Also yondered about using masking tape to adhere the plastic to the the table, thus keeping the curfxce flat and .n place . I am definitely going to try using a cheap plastic surface at present rather than the outlay for gelli. Yes it will do different things xnd have different capacity but it will be fun learning some of these processes.! Thank-you for such great instructional videos and inspiration !!!

Thank you for making these "mistakes." I can afford gel plates, but I often wonder what to recommend to people who either can't, or else don't yet want to commit to spending money on one. This was useful, not just because I now know not to recommend vinyl, but also as an example of not giving up, and turning "failed" prints into successful works of art. And, as always, I like your quiet, understated delivery, without the need to fill auditory space with a lot of chatter.

PVC is a thermoplast so U can try ironing the plastic sheet under a cool iron between paper sheets. That should loosen up the plastic and when it cools down it will set flat again

Maybe putting a soft foam type support under the plastic mat might make the mat more flexible? Some types of packing materials have that flexibility. However, the prints have a distinct style that’s kinda interesting in spite of it. 😊

@artwhisperer88

to do an oil monotype I would use a beefier 1/2 inch plexiglass plate to eliminate the annoying curling. Might as well do it right the first time.

Good to know; it makes sense that acrylic bonds better to the plastic sheet than it does to the paper. The gel plate is made with mineral oil so i guess that facilitates the release?
@artwhisperer88
@artwhisperer88 5 месяцев назад
I forgot that a really well engineered acrylic will stick to any surface aggressively! It doesn't do that on oily surfaces though.

Maybe less time on that silicone mat. Art imitates life. You just have to experiment to see if it works or not. At the end of the day, if it doesn't, you can fix it. If you can't, it's just paint and paper. A little bit less problematic. In life if you screw it, well, you will have to live with it. Lessons to be learned 😊

"Gelli plates" can be made with unflavored gelatin in a disposable aluminum cake pan (pick your size). I'm sure the ratio of how much gelatin/water needed for whichever size pan can be found on the internet. Refrigerate it overnight and the turn it out onto your work surface to use it. And it handles much the same as the commercial Gelli Plate. It stays quite firm and can be cleaned off and re-used several times before it begins to break down. Sooo cheap!
@artwhisperer88
@artwhisperer88 5 месяцев назад
thanks for the tip Suzanne, but I would rather devote my kitchen time to baking goodies that I can eat, like banana bread and carrot cake! BTW I already have 4 gelli plates, so I have no incentive to make one.
@suzannecooke2055
@suzannecooke2055 5 месяцев назад
Yeah - but OTHER artists wanting to try gelatine mono-printing may prefer to use the gelatine instead of opting for what seems to be the awkward and more pricey version you are advocating. I've used both the Gelli plate and the gelatine (no cooking involved BTW) with great results.@@artwhisperer88

Why not have people make their own gelatin plates if they can’t afford commercial? Fairly cheap to make without drawbacks of other substitutes.
