Love this video....can watch it for ever. I have few questions. After you spray some area with the amonia blend, can´t you paint with ink or permanent marker...? (do you you have to clean that area). I have sooo many ideas after watching this. And last, India ink, is it different from ink like you draw with....is it thicker?....and in that question can you use that ink to do this. love from Iceland
@creativeexcursions
@creativeexcursions 7 лет назад
Hello Svanur! I'm sorry that I didn't respond to your questions earlier. This video is not linked to me personally so I don't get notifications of comments....as a result some of them - like your fall through the cracks. These processes are very experimental so there are no set rules. Most of my successes with Yupo and ink were things that didn't work out - my recommendation is to try lots of things and then see how they work - in both the short and long term. India ink is quite opaque which makes it great for creating rich blacks. I hope that helps and have a wonderful holiday!

GREAT VIDEO as always coming from you.........Have not really worked with yupo paper so I have a question?? Can you put this on a wood panel and then use encaustic over it if only india inks are used??? Thanks so much & I hope you are on the road to recovery!! K
@EliseBachet
@EliseBachet 6 лет назад
Hello, I really hope this doesn't fall through the cracks and can get answered. The technique you show at 3:08 was impossible for me to replicate. I sprayed with ink, then ammonia solution, but when I swipe it just completely wipes the yupo clean. I never get any of the remaining texture you seem to so effortlessly achieve. What could I be doing wrong? Is your India Ink spray watered down at all? Do you wait for spray and ammonia to dry a bit first? Do you use a 'special' yupo paper? Please help!

Hello Sanju! Yes, the ammonia I used was the household variety. Sorry that I missed your questions - I'm hoping better late than never! : )
@Karmakat59
@Karmakat59 5 лет назад
NOT "household bleach"... it is AMMONIA (a cleaner found in any large grocery store). Whatever you do DO NOT MIX bleach with ammonia (forms deadly chlorine gas !!). But you probably know that already, I'm sure.

Right? It's like it's clear but as soon as it hits the area that's wet it turns black. And only in the wet area. It's clear on the white. Witchcraft
@nokiot9
@nokiot9 5 лет назад
I'm assuming it has something to do with the ammonia. That little bottle was the 50/50 mix. But for the life of me I can't figure out what it's reacting with.
@Karmakat59
@Karmakat59 5 лет назад
That puzzled me also. My best guess is that there was a tiny bit of ink in her water that she brushed on first that we can't really see (she mentions at one point that her water is not 'clean' when she brushes on a design,, can't remember if it's this video or the 2nd one).....So I suppose the ink reacted to the ammonia/water solution in the spray bottle and suddenly showed up more concentrated (??) I'm going to experiment and see if that is the 'mystery'. :)

Hi Carmel, not necessarily! The YUPO paper is great for these techniques and experiments for a few reasons though. For one, the YUPO can be worked constantly with the squeegee, cotton swab and other tools since it's quite durable. Also, colours and inks can be lifted off the surface because YUPO is smooth and non-absorbent. We hope that helps!

Question: Is there a difference between high gloss paper and Yuppo paper. If so, what is it please. Thanks. I loved this video.
@opusartsupplies
@opusartsupplies 7 лет назад
Hi Sandy, Glad you enjoyed the video! The major difference is that Yupo paper is made of 100% polypropylene, which is a polymer that is used both as a plastic and as a fibre. This unique quality makes it waterproof, wrinkle-proof, and it will accept any coloured media just like any other fibre surface. It really is a fun and unique product!

@creativeexcursions
@creativeexcursions 8 лет назад
Hello Irene...and yes, india ink works really well on a variety of surfaces. On some papers you get a lot of bleed happening which can be wonderful. That is actually one of the fun aspects of experimentation - you can push the medium to respond in different ways simply by changing the surface on which you are applying it. I hope you have fun with it!

@creativeexcursions
@creativeexcursions 8 лет назад
+Mike Mangarella Hello Mike. Yupo paper is sold in pads 8" x 10" or 11"x14", along with larger loose sheets. It is very much like drawing on a smooth matt plastic surface. The amonia /water mixture that I use is about half and half - although you could alter this...especially if you are sensitive to it. Fortunately, I don't have any adverse reactions to bleach. You could also work with it outside if the fumes are still bothering you, and definitely wear gloves. I hope that helps and happy creating!

@opusartsupplies
@opusartsupplies 9 лет назад
John Conti According to the distributor, Legion Paper, Yupo is an inert and chemically stable product which requires no buffering and is safe for long term storage. As it is a totally inert material, it is therefore is completely archival. However the composition of the materials being used (ink, paint, pencil, etc.) will ultimately determine the overall longevity of the work. For more info, check out Legion Paper's forums www.legionpaper.com/ask-an-expert or you can speak directly to a Legion Paper Expert at 212.683-6990 x303 / paperexpert@legionpaper.com Hope this helps and happy experimenting!
