The school's decision certainly makes me ask the question, "is it ignorance or is it cunning?" Education can impart knowledge but even among well educated people, there are people with poor ethics. Education can deepen and broaden the pool of knowledge one has to draw from, but oftentimes it cannot increase the intelligence of the mind tasked with using the knowledge, nor it's conscientiousness.

@@fourfortyroadrunner6701 likely because it owns the property. The school probably does not want to own and be responsible for (and be liable for people at) a true crime scene that becomes a local attraction for RU-vidrs and tourists. However, I do think it should have to keep it as it is until at least a verdict, ideally also with a window for an opportunity for an appeal. But I do think there should be time limits on that because I think the State must be reasonable and recognize and respect the property owner's rights to their property. Just my humble opinion

There have been, so many mass murders in schools and public places and how many of those places have been demolished? I can't help, but feel like the university has something to hide and that is the reason they've been pushing, so hard to demolish the house since they gained ownership of it. If they build a memorial garden, people are still going to know what happened there. I would be livid if my child, or family member were one of the victims and this 😤 was happening. You can't get the same experience from any virtual model as you would by doing an actual physical walk through tour of the house. The jurors won't get to hear the sounds from inside of the house like creaking of the stairs from walking on them. They won't know the actual distance between the rooms and the kitchen sliders. They won't get to have the actual visual of standing outside looking in to see what they could see inside of the house. I think that it should stand until after the trial. The jurors for the Murdaugh trial, wanted to visit the Murdaugh's property and they walked around the kennels and saw 👀 where everything happened.

100% agree. Why the Prosecution wouldn't want to keep it up and "fight" for it, is beyond me. I understand the reason for it "emotionally," but I would want to make sure that - whatever the outcome of the trial, there were no regrets at the end of the verdict. Anyone close to the case or area of the house, should want the person responsible to be off the streets, for good.

Its not that new evidence will suddenly fall out of a closet in that house, it’s that the house is a huge symbol of the violence that usually works in the favor of the prosecution. If the jury gets to walk through it, they will feel the horror and pain of the victims’ families which definitely helps the prosecution.... But if the prosecution team is corrupted by outside forces, maybe they don’t care if the house is torn down😮

Something the defense is going to argue is the timing, how he was able to kill 4 young healthy people in such short time and for that the jury might want to see the house, walk through it. Is not the same seeing it yourself and walking the distances between rooms than to watch it on a computer.
@Tranqualthoughts
@Tranqualthoughts 8 месяцев назад
Actually if you look at jury conduct. You are actually not allowed to try and recreate or demonstrate the crime to determine guilt. That would include doing it at a crime scene. If they where taken to the scene it would simply be a walk through. And the prosecution would describe the evidence found at the scene. I saw a case get a re tried cause it was found a jury member at home was trying to recreate the crime to see how long it takes for someone to dry coming out of the shower. The have strict rules when working on a jury.

Although I personally think that visiting the inside of the house can give a rather wrong impression of things, I would still lean towards the position that it would be good to preserve the house just in case. It may be needed and eventually even for going inside. You can never know what will happen in court, be it a pellet issue or something else, and that's why you have to try to always make the cases bulletproof.

When a property is a "Crime Scene" especially for a crime such as this, aren't there legal steps to halt the demolition ? Can't someone involved ask for an Injunction to stop it? It's too early in the case to allow this to occur. The scene should stay available until the case is over. Likely nothing will be built there again. With the Death Penalty being brought in this case, keeping the house standing should be of paramount importance. The defendant will benefit from the college board decision. Can't that decision be appealed?
@Chad_Max
@Chad_Max 8 месяцев назад
Short answer is no. Crime scenes are temporarily possessed for law enforcement to collect all physical and forensic evidence. After that point, possession reverts back to the owner. Here, the private owner quickly sold the property to the University who is the current owner. The owner can do whatever they want with the property. What's likely going on is this is a small college town which gets the bulk of its revenue from the college itself. Everyday that house is up and this case is in the news enrollments take a hit. The college and local gov. wants to move away from that as quickly as possible. Demolishing the house is a big step in that direction. In the US, colleges operate as a for profit business despite technically being non-profits and a big part of their business model is selling the "college experience" which for most students is delaying adulthood for a minimum of 4 years, binge drinking, and getting a degree with a poor ROI (marketing, english, etc.). A house where 4 students were brutally murdered being up for a year+ is bad for business...

I made the same comment that Mark made as to why the house should not be demolished before completion of the trial. Suppose evidence or information is presented by the prosecution that the defense was unaware of and it requires a return visit to the property by the defense team. As Mark said something always happens at a murder trial that was unforeseen, and in this case, the defense had to file numerous requests for discovery because it believed it was not receiving all the relevant information, and as I recall, the Moscow authorities claimed they gave everything they had to the defense team and anything else the FBI has.
