It's my understanding that letting the grain soak over night helps germinate endospores so as to destroy them much easier in the pressure cooker step. Always works even with older grains.

Yes absolutely, I do let my Rye grain soak for 24 hours. I accidently left it for 36 hours and had better results than 24. With my Rice grain I just boil and simmer for 15 mins, let drain for 1.5-2hrs and then ready to bag and PC for 2 hrs. Brown rice is way better than rye in my opinion.

after 4+ years of doing this I would not recommend all this extra work. with Rye: add 2 parts Rye to 1 part water by volume to bag or jar & PC @ 15 psi for 2 to 2.5 hours. or soak in cold water for 24 hours, drain well (30 to 45 minutes) bag or jar & PC @ 15 psi for 2 to 2.5 hours. hope everyone has noticed all the noobs (10's of 1,000's of them) jumping on the "Myco Train" years too late thinking they know everything look up NSNS or no soak no simmer, you'll see the pros been doing this for years i just made up 12 x 3 lb bags + 25 x 5 lb bags yesterday

appreciate the tips, I will try this method. I am by no means a professional, just sharing my journey. I have recently switched to brown rice as I find it colonizes faster than the rye. Also with the rice, I just boil, let drain for 1 hr and then bag or jar, no laying it out to dry on screens.

I would recommend FOOD GRADE buckets if you decide to pour boiling water into them as the HD buckets will leech micro plastics into your material. Bucket tek ppl seem to not care but just some information to take note of.

Thanks for the tip, I did not know that food grade buckets do not leech plastics. Thanks for that, I am going to switch.
