Explain: Steph Curry and Warriors record-setting 21-0 run to win the championship
by EricApricot
The Warriors responded in Game 6 on 2022.06.16.GSW-BOS to the Celtics massive opening 14-2 punch with an even more massive 21-0 run that would provide a lead that they kept for the rest of the game. Co-starring Steph Curry, Draymond Green, Klay Thompson, Andrew Wiggins, Gary Payton II, and Jordan Poole.

The part about GP2 "I believe you have my property" made me laugh out loud. People weren't kidding when they said even natural PG's are scared of dribbling in front of him. Jaylen and Tatums ball handling can sometimes be messy, doing that in front of GP2 is just asking for trouble. I feel like you could easily make a 5 minute compilation of GP2 swipping the ball away just this series alone, 8 steals this finals alone.
@nickkotejares2755
@nickkotejares2755 2 года назад
I second the motion. Let's see all GP2 Swiping for this season. I feel like the other teams offense is not as coherent whenever he is around the floor. Like they have to rethink of everything and in a fast pace game like basketball (NBA). That's fatal.

@EricApricot you make watching the game a better experience by sharing your insights and knowledge! Thank you for taking the time (HOURS) to reconstruct game video to evidence your observations! Could we request a series of Master’s Classes in the evolution of defenses played by championship teams? From man to man or one on one, zone, through the Triangle to the Box and 1, and ultimately the Switch D, (where you can explain how switching on D connects to the variety of offensive pick and rolls and screens)?

@Urgelt
@Urgelt 2 года назад
Great, I'll look forward to your summer content. Kudos! The turning point in this series was game 4 in Boston. Somebody on the Warriors staff noticed that neither Brown nor Tatum could finish efficiently if forced to go left. This defect wasn't Boston's only Achilles heel, but it was a big one. That decided the series right there. But Boston *did* have other vulnerabilities. One of them was the gap between the *popular* defensive player of the year (Smart) versus the *actual* best defender in the league (Green). In fact I would argue that the Warriors had *three* defenders who played better defense than Smart in the Finals - Green, Wiggins and GP2. The other Warriors weren't far behind - Steph played excellent defense, Klay is always a stout defender, Looney is as solid as you could hope, and everyone was committed and locked in. The Warriors out-defended Boston by a wide margin. This Finals should be an absolute embarrassment to DPOY voters. They didn't just get it wrong, they got it *horribly* wrong. It's my view that since 2015, not counting two bad years of Warriors injury and reconfiguration, the DPOY should have been Draymond Green every damn time. There are other good defenders, but nobody does everything as well as Draymond does - though he is mortal, and he did have some down games in the playoffs, but in the end he came through bigtime. His defensive ceiling is impossibly high. Though Wiggins blossomed into such an elite defender this season that he ought to be on the DPOY short list, too. Smart is a good defender; don't get it twisted. But much of his defensive prowess comes from flops - and the refs in this Finals got sick of that and stopped calling them fouls. An uncalled flopping foul is a freebie open shot for the offense. Oops. Wiggins outplayed Tatum on both ends of the court. He's just the better player at this stage in his career. Without Two-Way Wigs, the Warriors probably couldn't have run off those last three wins so easily to take the Championship. He's due a lot of credit for hard work, for embracing new tasks assigned by the coaching staff (especially rebounding), and for fitting so well into the Warriors' system. Boston's bench productivity was no match for the Warriors', and that mattered, too. Big vulnerability right there. The brightest spot in Boston's performance in this series was Robert Williams. I'm starting to see him as a player on the level of Embiid. He's agile, athletic, has great timing, has a nice soft touch in the mid range and at the rim, is an elite rim protector, and he's not exactly helpless defending at the arc - though there aren't any bigs in the NBA that can fully contain Poole or Curry at the arc. This is where defensive rotations come into play. If a big has to prevent an open three by not sagging, *somebody* had better have his back. Boston's rotations weren't nearly as crisp as the Warriors'. Another vulnerability. Boston did have going for it some streaky, but often effective, 3-point shooting. Tatum got hot occasionally, and it's always a mistake to let Brown get off a 3 where he likes to be. Horford can rail 3's, too - though he's a step slow on defense and he had his pocket picked if he dared to dribble much. But with Tatum and Brown's drives to the hoop flummoxed by forcing them to their left, Boston couldn't generate enough offense to have much hope against the Warriors' defense. These aren't quite the dominant Warriors we saw during their dynasty years, and as their core stars age, it's probably mistaken enthusiasm to expect another championship next year. But hey, they got it done this season, adding to their illustrious achievements and cementing their legacy as the best franchise to play in this era. Pop the corks, it's celebration time!

Wrong about the repeat, Dubs have great young players coming up..& Poole and Wiggs are just gonna get better...they may just have the depth they had in 2015-16
@Urgelt
@Urgelt 2 года назад
@@alfredramirez6402 I won't rule out another championship run. It's conceivable. The main problem they face is connected to salaries. Looney, Porter Jr. and GP2 are all free agents. Next summer, Wiggins and Poole will be free agents. These guys are all due bigger paydays, but the Warriors are in the luxury tax. Something has to give. They're going to lose some of these guys, in all probability. Their replacements will be aging league veterans on minimum contracts, and that's a roll of the dice. As for the young fellas, it's still not clear just how valuable they will be able to be to the Warriors, especially Wiseman, who still has only played a handful of games since high school, and whose health prospects are uncertain. I like these young men and have high hopes for all of them, but there are young players on other teams, too, and their fans are just as excited about them. How this will play out going forward is anyone's guess. Injuries are, as always, a concern, too. It takes more than a little good luck to reach the Finals. My bottom line is, I never demand championships from my favorite NBA franchise. All I ask is to be able to see the Warriors play, and play their brand of basketball, which I admire greatly. Unselfish team play, combined with excellent team defense, is the best b-ball on the planet.

Also love how you pointed out a all the flopping I don’t watch every single game and try to catch what I can but in recent years I’ve been confused about how soccer style of dramatic flops made it’s way to be so prevalent in the NBA. I like how you pointed out how refs can also be desensitized by known exaggerating players. If Luka and Smart didn’t waste so much time crying about missed fouls who knows what they could have produced. Which is why I love the Warriors. They are just that, they of course plead their cases for miss calls but they are already hustling to get in on the next play. Can’t make anything happen if you’re still in the back court crying.

Jeff van gundy: you really gotta hand it to the warriors. Celtics: okay! Great season!! I've learned so much watching your videos. Unbelievable being on this journey with the dubs. At the end of last year and after their undefeated preseason, I figured they could be top four in the west and then it would depend on how well every one could perform to survive and advance. So many question marks among the younger and older players. But boy did they ever answer them. What a performance, with results that in hindsight resemble domination. So rewarding to follow this team. Every player has a story.

I honestly can't blame Klay for not showing up entirely the guy been through it last couple years and to come back mid season and go on a run like this even during a year curry is having a 3 point slump it's unpredictable and amazing

He’s come up with some timely 3s, buckets, rebounds, and defensive stops though. Literally no one said he’d be 100% when he came back and many actually doubted him, but he’s shown promise that he can get back to the same Klay we’ve known as loved to watch. He’s so close and his poor shooting % will only drive him to improve more.
