I stayed with an American in Minnesota once. He'd spent some time in Australia working for Ford. The house there backed onto a cricket pitch. He said he spent long periods watching mostly not much happening and then suddenly there'd be a flurry of activity and a load of shouting and he couldn't work out what had happened. Watching was not enough for him.

As an American who lived in England for a while, it took me 2 hours and a good friend watching the World Cup and I knew what was happening. Being a big fan of baseball, while they are obviously very different I loved watching it with him and having an English parent (who only loves football) I loved rooting for England. It’s really not that hard to understand if with a good friend and watching it.

As a Kenyan that grew up when Kenya had a good cricket team and cricket new dominated the headlines, I appreciate this documentary. Understanding the rules of the game I grew up loving at the age of 30. Talking of "Tamasha," I never knew it came from India because it is a Swahili word for ceremony. Confirms that Kiswahili is not just Bantu and Arabic, but a lot of languages that merged into a lingua franca for trade at the East African Coast.

@MrAwesomeSaucem 3 года назад
@@mr.scientist1469 I am a huge baseball fan currently learning about cricket so we’re probably feeling the same way 😂 It seems like they are based around similar basic principles, however they are organized differently. Baseball and cricket are quite different, however more similar to each other than to other sports from what I can tell. At the very least, they both have a player throwing a ball to a batter, who tries to hit it hard and accurately. They both give points to the batting team for hitting it outside of the field (pitch). In both sports, the batter is “out” if the opposing teams player catches the ball, and it becomes the next batters turn. The wickets always confused me, but I think it is pretty much the same idea as in baseball - the batting player must get to their destination (wicket or base) before the ball does or they are out, in short. I’m from the u.s., and after watching a few videos on cricket I already understand it better than I do American football because of the similarities! This is by far my longest comment ever, I just am fascinated by cricket and enjoy someone in the same boat as me but with baseball. Let me know if anything I said was incorrect!

I tried reading about cricket and I just found the written explanation so confusing, but the graphics with the narration was incredibly help. I can see why with baseball, cricket fell out of favor here in the US, particularly before T20 an along. But I can definitely see why T20 is so popular aside from the entertainment of it all. Considering the game was globalised less than half a century ago India has done pretty well . How many times have china won an Olympic? Your logic doesn't makes sense . It's not about the population of the country it's about its resources and how they use it . Brazil had won 5 fifa world cup with less than 1/6th population of China or India . USA has won most Olympics with comparetively less population. Im not saying India is perfect coz cleary it ain't . But it's the rate at which it's developing . When you compare modern India to 80s India you can cleary see a big difference in almost all aspects and that's what makes me feel proud.

@@msdadsfsx china has won like 10 less medals than USA during that year. China only had more gold medals. And your logic doesn't makes sense coz population doesn't define a country's success . There only had been like 12 world cups and India won 2 of them along with T20 worldcup and champions trophy.

I wonder if I was the only one here watching this who learned something. An American with little interest in sports I could barely explain football to you. I got recommended a clip of a bowler spinning a ball so hard at bounced at a ninety degree angle. I was like cool I have no clue what I just watched. Helpfully RU-vid was aware of this and recommended this next.

They explain the rules slowly, with visual aids - and I think I get it. The rest of the video is filled with cricket play highlights, and I'm like, "what? what happened? why are the celebrating? what's going on?". They did well to explain the sport's origins, evolutions and cultural impact globally. *Very* good in that regard. I still didn't know what I was looking at, seeing quick snippets of action and players rejoicing.

I dont think so. Literally no one here in England watches india Pakistan matches. We only care about England matches... especially England vs Australia. The ashes will always be the biggest thing in cricket. Bigger than the WC even. Nothing matters more to English cricket fans than the ashes. Plus English cricket grounds get filled out far more for test matches than indian ones.

I remember the first time The Rolling Stones toured Brazil in 1995 one of the weirdest demands Mick Jagger had was to have some cricket games (or a proper way is "matches"?) transmitted via satellite directly to the hotel he was staying. I just thought WTF the baddest boy in R&R is mad for this strange sport? But now I get it when even Stephen Fry of all people loves it.

Buddy, this documentary was made by Indians to show their country cricket and bring some money from none cricket playing countries. so obviously they will not show any detail about any other that's why it shows IND vs AUS match with mentioning 1996 world cup. This is their investment to develop their cricket and bring some money. When do I say MONEY, you know which money I meant right?
