The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has announced new driving licence rules from June 1, 2024. According to the ministry, you won’t have to take your driving licence test at a Regional Transport Office,
Instead, you can simply get your DL test at a certified private driving school. DH’s Udbhavi Balakrishna explains the new rule in detail. Watch to know more.

When everything was run by the government, the results are eminent under congress. Every PSU was bleeding losses and then we cry for the want of government jobs. People loved those jobs since nobody would be accountable, with privatisation comes responsibility and accountability. However, it has to be regulated, else corporates will have their own terms.

In our country if you pay a bribe even a blind person will get a driving licence. What is the authenticity? Driving schools already are taking more money and this will also increase the bribe to the RTO officials. Referring to the pune city Porsche car mowing down 2 youngsters, it's really sad.

Such a bad move. A country notorious for bad driving and bad driving manners on road, will only get worse. Forget about bribery. Now your neighborhood driving school will deliver licenses at your doorstep. Of course for a fee - you know what that means !

5000 is nothingz, they will any way pay. Hardening means it should be minimum 50 K or 1 Lakh for 1 violation.

Exactly, and there should also be set number of violations after which the said driving school's business license should be revoked. I also think that a similar revoking of driving license should apply to bad drivers so as to reduce road incidents. Just a fine as a penalty makes no sense when poor tutoring and poor driving literally increases life risks for others.

When the fine amount is high, it always ends up with a bribe. If the fine is 1 lakh, no sane officer will ever charge that money from anyone and instead settle with a bribe, instead fine should be low so that there is no scope for bribe(drivers should be given credit points instead and breaking rules will reduce the credit points)

Need of the hour is to get more and more drivers trained by the traffic rules and ensure they follow. Making to get driver’s license easy and Simple is the last thing. Most important is to get two wheeler riders trained as almost all of them NEVER FOLLOW TRAFFIC RULES AND MOST IMPORTANTLY THE TRAFFIC POLICE SHOULD DUTIFULLY BE STRICT

If you feel I am wrong I pray to God that you should always cross a railway track 1 second before train is moving at your point by showing your hand to stop the train and when you get killed which politician / railway will pay lakhs of rupees to your family ?

The traffic police will never act to prevent incidents as far as the system of having monthly targets to raise revenue is in place. The system is rigged to catch people after they commit the crime, not to prevent it.

This can be more effective by adding just one more rule: The DL issued should also include data on who issued the DL. If there are many traffic challans paid by drivers who received their DL from the same issuer, the DL issuer should also be fined for not providing proper training.

Never met a single person in my life who had to actually give the test to get license. (Some outliers are obviously there). In India you just go and say I need a driving license, pay the money and just get it after the documentation etc process

I suggest there should be laws where each hour of class has a fixed price like 250rs so that we can take 30 classes and also retakes if for example I am not able to drive during nights I take two extra hours of night driving lessons etc and just the exam fee after this .In this way there would be no under the desk money

Requirements: 1. 1 - 2 acres of land (2W + 4W) 2. Trainers should possess high school certificate 3. IT systems knowledge (including biometrics) 4. 5+ years of driving experience INR 5000 is the penalty if any of the above requirements are not met, which the issuing centre can easily collect as bribes from a few applicants. We are definitely moving in the right direction. 😂😂

The trainers should be very good in English. Usually they use the Thoo / Nee word on young trainees. If the trainers are going to be persons with low English standards, this will be just like government office.

Still it's cheaper to get a license by bribe at RTO office for mere 2000 😂😂😂😂 Since I didn't approach through a broker, I was failed twice by RTO, though I followed every rule for my 2 wheeler lisence. Third time I've no other choice but to find a broker, it's cleared this time.

1) when some one wants to drive a 4 wheeler or heavy 29 ,39 hrs traing exp is not good. Bcas 4 wheelers kill humans . .. At least 100 t0 150 hrs driving with video proof is needed for strict happy society . 2) outsourcing can be flexible if real value can be created out of it.... Driving is crucial and negligence should be avoided. If single candidate failure govt should close the driving school for ever then real patience honesty ppl would come up or ppl change themselves to match honesty needed for this area. 2 madum some basic things should be honest in society or else our top level wont stay competitive and healthy. 3 every district youth must vote for infrastructure voting thru cell phones. 1 water 2 food 3 edu 4 driving licence... Like these basics everyone wants to be strict. Then why they arent all these days?

That fine is too low for it to serve as a deterrent to prevent bribing. It makes no sense to have such a low fine of Rs. 5000 for organisations when most traffic offense fines for even individuals are much higher. The amount of money the driving schools will make will far surpass this tiny fine they might have to pay, IF they get caught ever. Further on, this privatisation leads to yet another transfer of responsibility of quality assurance from the real regulatory body to private institutions. It's like the government simply doesn't want to hold itself liable towards anything any more!
