In this episode its all about chassis flex and how it can affect you expedition or overland 4x4 truck.
I try to explain the various chassis flex mitigation systems available and point out the pro's and con's of each system and why I have decided to go for the rail on rail system for my particular situation.

For the calculating load on each sub chassis support it will depend on the weight distribution of the suspended load (the camp box) Look into videos on "free body diagrams" and "beam deflection calculation : point loads and distributed loads" and that will give you a better idea of how to calculate. Keep in mind that dividing by four is probably good enough as long as you are very conservative with your weights etc

Gday, I'm about to go down this track with my truck soon. My thoughts is that the pre-load should be for the weight of the chassis diff springs etc. My thoughts are that your trying to allow the chassis to flex independent of the tray/bed attached, if you run too heavy a spring or cushion you may prevent the flex as the spring/s combined only allows a small amount of compression before it supports the chassis before the chassis has flexed to it full potential. For example, let say you rear Axel curb weight is 1 tone with all items attached to the chassis. If you were to use 1 tone cushions per side and one side of the back wheel was lifted, there would be little to no flex as the cushion on the opposite side is capable of taking the entire weight of the chassis by itself, if that makes sense. Also, I see a lot of these two L brackets used with two or one springs, my concern with this type of mount is they offer little to no protection if your truck was to take an impact to the rear or moment on that plane. 👍
