Honestly the best thing anyone can do in a situation like this is shut off the main breaker in the house, or the service meter breaker if you have access. This erratic of voltage is the thing that does major damage to electronics, and isolating your house from the grid will protect all the expensive electronics including major appliances.

The transformer did not explode, all it was is a large stick on the line's getting exploded.

3 times. but it wasnt the power company... there is a device called a recloser on every line and it trips on and off 3 times when it senses a fault. it will attempt to burn off whatever is causing the fault, in this case, a limb... after 3 tries, if the fault still is present,it will kill the power for that area of the line. once the power co comes and removes the fault, they reset the recloser and yall got power again. hope that clears it up

Actually the tree branch is on the power lines or the cross arm.

Turn off the AC means go into the room where the breakers are and SHUT THE HOUSE OFF! You don't want to lose your appliances :P

Yep. One of those explosions happened in my neighborhood and knocked out power during a crazy blizzard 3 weeks ago!

no transformer explosion here. just a limb causing a phase to phase fault. Recloser did it's job. cut power three times then locked out.

it exploded because the tree branch was touching 2 lines which allowed the electricity to flow through the wood therefor shorting them out and causing a meltdown

That was cool but I'd stay away from the power lines if it happens again.

That is NOT a transformer explosion...the branch isn't even touching the transformer

its not a transformer the trans former is the white cylinder it is the electricity trying to jump over the stick but in the air it expands like lightning
