..BACK TO FOOD HALLS:
Food halls tend to be a community asset, supporting the growth and development of restaurant startups. The region's food stalls have many flavors to pick from since Columbus boasts a thriving food truck scene.
The downtown location of North Market has been delighting foodies, visitors and residents for years (since 1876!). North Market expanded to the suburb of Dublin in 2020 with its fresh foods, produce, meat, poultry, gifts, games and local assortments.
In 2018 Cameron Mitchell pushed Columbus food halls to the next level with the announcement of Budd Dairy. The food hall is named for the historic 14,000-square-foot building it is built within. It sits in the Italian Village near downtown Columbus. The first level of the hall offers a main bar, a stage for live entertainment, community seating and the food vendors. The second floor holds a smaller bar, games and private meeting space. Fresh air, views and a chic bar with chandeliers are your rooftop deck discoveries.
East Market food hall has just opened and already vendors inside told Laura & Melissa they are loving the opportunity to move from their food truck and into a more permanent space where they can reach more foodies and prove their concept without the overhead of launching a standalone business. Across the street a new, luxury apartment complex is planned and next door to the food hall a brewery has begun construction and renovation of a historic space.
On the opposite side of town, Hilliard has a booming food hall called Center Street Market. The west area hub of activity has a big outdoor space with picnic tables and sometimes live music. Across the street families enjoy public fountains and a park. About a dozen stalls offer a variety of flavors plus inside you'll enjoy Crooked Can Brewery.
The central Ohio food scene will see additional halls shortly as areas, including New Albany, announced plans.
