In this video, we explore an abandoned seaside hotel with everything left inside, closed five years ago. Deterioration has caused water allowed into the building, progressing decay to an apocalyptic appearance!

I spent the night before I got married in this hotel. Unbelievable to see it looking like this now. But also strangely hauntingly beautiful too. I remember falling asleep with the curtains open so I could see and hear the sea.

This would make for a perfect filming location for HBO's #TheLastofUs. If you've seen the videogame, you'll know what I'm talking about but if you haven't it's basically about infected people living in a post apocalyptic world. It would cost the production team thousands to recreate the look and style that this hotel offers and yet it's here in its untamed natural beauty. Thanks for taking the time to film and sharing your experience with us.

Three hotels in that area went in to receivership and were sold over the course of a few years. Two have come out of it with dedicated new owners, new facilities, an extra star rating in the case of one of them. So there is business, if you have the right owner and the cash to put in to it... too late here.

Thanks guys that was incredibly interesting to see how nature in such a short time can take all those rooms over with the foliage, but it looks like the building was built of concrete possibly and definitely the worst thing that could’ve built it with was a flat roof on an exposed place like that it must’ve cost an absolute fortune in heating with those large windows but that was a typical 1970s look

Late last year (2020) it was announced that this hotel was to be redeveloped as part of a large refurbishment and redevelopment in and around Bunbeg. The newspaper reports I saw said that the company concerned would change the use of this building into separate, own-key apartments for holidaymakers and other visitors. The proposals seem to have been welcomed locally; and I suppose they are much better than having two decaying hotels in your town. (Yes, there's another one.) As so many commentators here have said, the site is stunning; and from my own visits I know how beautiful the whole area is. A beautifully filmed and edited video. Thank you!

A beautiful location. The decay in this hotel is amazing. It goes from one extreme to the other. I assume it's either plumbing that's failed or the usual leaking roof one gets with these flat roofed concrete buildings. Somehow I can't see this building ever getting saved. The cost I think will prohibit anyone renovating it. Well done for bringing this video to us. You do a fabulous job
@Urbandoned
@Urbandoned 2 года назад
We are pretty sure that it was a roof fault or lack of service during the building's period of activity that caused the leaks as you say. Some parts of the building could be saved but the majority in a brutal state of decay will make it very difficult. Thank you for the support.

Stayed there soon after the hotel was built. It was a very striking and futuristic building for the time. Maybe not to everyone's taste, but I think that the deliberate contrast of the building and its surroundings somehow worked. A bit like a spaceship on the moon. If you've watched early 1970s Sci-fi you'll get the idea. The original interior was also very beautifully done. Details like dark wood complimented a stong design focus and colours. The hotel lobby, the gift shop and details like bedrooms doors seem to have been all altered at some point from the original - with 1970s style round brass handles to white doors with modern ones. I think the hotel later lost some of its better design features to these changes over time It certainly would have been amongst the first wave of purpose hotels in the west of Ireland. The indoor swimming pool was a fairly luxurious addition for the time. Sadly there seems to be few if any early photos of the interior. Around the time of the hotels later closure and financial difficulties - there were also a number of compensation culture type claims. One involving an unsupervised child falling off the balcony and another for a relatively minor injury some considerable time after the alleged incident. I think as a hotel it was a building of its time and is now being reclaimed by nature - though it would be good a thing if those who visit just to deliberately destroy things up and make a mess - would catch a grip.

This footage is both amazing and sad at the same time. At times it's like the land version of the Marie Celeste (or the abandoned towns near Chernobyl). Can't figure out why the owners didn't sell of the best of the furniture & equipment to recoup some of the losses...???
