We've been out to Death Valley National Park a few times, exploring mines and ghost towns in the surrounding desert. This year we found a few ne (to us) locations to check out! This video is going to be mostly mines (and some natural landform stuff). There will be some other videos with more of the ghost towns and other things we saw!
Please note that mine exploring can be dangerous, and should not be attempted without proper safety equipment, training, and experience.

I enjoyed every minute of this video. I love being able to live vicariously on your adventures and satellite experiments. And because of you I am now SDRing and APTing myself. I am really enjoying the beginning of my satellite adventures, it is so much fun. Thanks for taking us along Gabe and I cant wait for the next installment of the 2023 Death Valley Expeditions

Wow, wild! Thanks Gabe! I knew Tatooine was partially filmed in Death Valley so I went looking for more info and found some notes including the identity of the elephant who played the Bantha. I may have ridden on that elephant at the park it came from (Marine World Africa U.S.A.) and surely saw it in an elephant show, and I never knew. For locations I found: Filming took place in five different locations in the park, including Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes, Desolation Canyon, Golden Canyon, and Dante’s View, all of which can be accessed from the Furnace Creek Visitor Center.

Maybe an old oil lamp fell and started that fire. Good spot to hang a lamp, right? Interesting mines! You'll have to get out to Cerro Gordo one day. :D

Hi Gabe, finally managing to catch up on some of your recent videos. I really enjoyed this trip and always appreciate the historical information that you include during your narration. The formation that looked like the big skull instantly made me think of the The Goonies. I’m also not sure what goes through people’s minds regarding making a fire inside a mine, I would imagine a general lack of respect would be a key factor. The sunset camera shots you showed were fantastic and seeing the landscape as you exited the mine was also great. Thank you for sharing this excellent video with everyone. Best wishes to you, your family and the feline overlords 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🇺🇸

A very interesting mine exploration; I hope you found gold and are now very rich. The sweet donkeys could help transport a lot of gold from the mine. The cute spiders seem to occur there more frequently. I've been thinking if it's damp in the mines or what else could be decomposing the wood. It brought me a lot of joy to explore the mines with them. Thank you very much for taking me along.
@saveitforparts
@saveitforparts 8 месяцев назад
It's actually really dry in the mines out there (and in the whole area!) A lot of the wood is in fantastic condition, if kids haven't tried to set it on fire. Even some of the metal is in good condition and not super rusty. I used to explore mines in Alaska and they are much more damp and rotten!
@michaellichter4091

@@saveitforparts This was mentioned in the video that it is foolish to start a fire in a mine. Thank you very much for the feedback. And please stay tuned for the North Korean spy satellite; the launch is reported to be successful, and the satellite is said to be functioning. The satellite is said to have beamed images of the White House to Earth. One should give it some more time and then check again if the satellite is transmitting now.

Even if I could still hike, I don't think I'd be easily convinced to hike 2 miles *downhill* to a lead mine. Lol Gold or silver, I'd be all for it.
@Peter_S_
@Peter_S_ 8 месяцев назад
A very common ore of silver is galena which is lead sulfide. It often occurs with argentite which is silver sulfide. All the gold mines in my area are absolutely chock full of tellurium which is even worse than lead. I share your lack of enthusiasm for being inside lead mines.
@DirtyPlumbus
@DirtyPlumbus 8 месяцев назад
@@Peter_S_ interesting, I had never heard of tellurium before. I can see why you'd want to avoid that as well. I've experienced lead exposure headaches. I'm in no rush to do it again.

just wanted to throw this out there. for your rail rider, to my understanding, the rail that parallels hwy 94 is discontinued. it used to service the nuclear plant in monticello but is no longer used. maybe a good long rail run on that

Furnace Creek in Death Valley is where Hollywood transformed the desert into the central nexus of Tatooine 40 years ago. Anybody who likes mine content may want to check out the channel 'Exploring Abandoned Mines'. Frank just retired after 10 years and now runs a mine museum in Canada but he's started re-running his decade of explores.
@beefchicken
@beefchicken 8 месяцев назад
Frank is a thief and steals artifacts from heritage sites. He was caught by the locals and the RCMP pillaging from a mine in the Yukon. @undergroundmines has good content, the guy that posts the videos has a bizarre sense of humour, and he doesn’t pillage.
