EXPLORING ABANDONED SHIPWRECK | Lands End Cornwall

I venture down a steep and tricky descent to discover the abandoned shipwreck of RMS Mulheim, located in Gamper Bay, between Sennen and Land's End in Cornwall, England. The ship was wrecked on March 22nd 2003, when the captain lost consciousness as the vessel was en route from Cork Ireland to Lubeck Germany. No fatalities were experienced. Most of the cargo of plastic car parts was recovered from the ship, which was deemed a write off, and eventually in October 2003 the wreck broke into 2 parts. The part that remains beached is the smaller part of the 2.
Join me as I go both on deck and then inside the ship!
If you do visit this wreck, please be aware it is a reasonably steep and slippy route down the cliff to the beach, there is lots of sharp and unstable rusted metal everywhere and the terrain is very rocky!

Like going for a pint in the Crooked House. It's a great walk from Sennen to Lands End and we saw the wreck when we did it four years ago. Was a hut just out of Sennen with an amazingly friendly Irish lady doing tourist info. Top video again!

Great video, I am glad you got there. The angle and everything looks the same as in 2019. It's really hard to show people what it's like inside so that's why I did some shots with the camera on the floor filming me. I couldn't help thinking about all those disasters where people would have been trying to escape with corridors and rooms at 45 degrees. You should check out Cligga head near Perranporth. You can go into a fascinating mine without the need for ropes. Let me know if you require information on the route. It has to be precise and it took me some years to find it.

Thanks for watching Tony. I’ll check out your videos at Cligga head and see what’s in store! I’ll be in touch for the directions if I think I can handle it!

@@WendallExplores I was thinking some more about my offer and it still stands. However I should just say that going in the mines is dangerous and several of the experienced locals told me I was crazy doing it. There were certainly parts of the middle level that scared the hell out of me and I have no desire to go back inside and take more risks. I still think the bottom level is fine but one slip on the path going down and you are dead. It might be worth a visit just to film from the safe surroundings. It's still fascintaing and then you can decide if you want to explore further.

@@TonyFisherPuzzles I’ve just watched your 2 videos and there is no chance I’ll be going deep inside like you, great videos though - your a legend! I think I could make it down the path to the mines but I wouldn’t be able to face going deep inside!

With lots of these old ship wrecks I often wonder what happens to the engines. The props I can understand are salvage usually being brass they have a value but then you would think prop-shafts engines and all the associated spaces are just full of heavy engineering and being at the bottom of any ship if it runs aground it would end up in the mud

Aye the placve is lovely. Went there early summer 2022, went right down to it. It's an absolutely amazing experience. I didn't get on it tho, as I didn't have anyone with me so I decided it'd be probably smart to not put myself in extra danger, especially since I had tankfest to go to the next day haha! I wonder what stuff the Americans left here in Cornwall , WW2 stuff , I remember seeing a wheel -axle -and what looked like the rear of a willys jeep out in the sand when the tide was out off Hayle beach , due to the ever changing depth of the sand I haven’t seen it for at least 10 odd years , I’ve seen that wreck but years ago I’m sure you could make out the paint work then …….. Keep up the good work ………I love the history content of your vids
@WendallExplores
@WendallExplores 2 года назад
The jeep wheel on Hayle Towans is still there, I saw it a few years ago. I believe it’s from a farmers jeep who got stuck there many years ago and the tide did the rest. Actually I think I run past it on one of my very old (and poor!) videos called ‘20km beach run’, check it out!

RMS means Royal Mail Steamer by the way. This vessel would have been delivering mail, parcels and other cargo.

Hate to tell you this but the ship isn't British so it doesn't actually stand for that. It actually stands for Rhein-Maas-und See Schiffahrtskontor. I remember this wreck happening as I was dating a RNLI chap at the time who attended this incident. And remember him saying they had a lucky escape at castle zawn!
