Abandoned 70’s 12 story hotel with full power. Explore #73
I have explored many abandoned places but nothing this large so it was very exciting. This hotel was built in 1970. It has 12 storeys, 370 hotel rooms, large salt water pool with hot tub, fine dinning, pet friendly and plenty of 5 star reviews.
This hotel was a happening place and was very well run over the years. It operated from 1970 to 2020. The hotel's owners sold the land to a developer for 86 million dollars. The developer will build 3 condos approx. 37 stories tall in its place. With permission we had the opportunity to explore this massive abandoned hotel before they demolish it forever.

I have been exploring abandoned places since I was a child and now I would like to film the explores and share the videos with you.
My father took me to my first abandoned house when I was 7 years old. I remember going into the house and a old farmer came in and told us "we better watch out as the floors are all rotten and unsafe". Ever since that day I was hooked on exploring abandoned places.

I would think if workers were there tearing things out they probably used the elevator. It closed only a few months ago and if it's already been torn down by the time this video came out then I imagine he probably went not too long after it originally closed. So unless it hadn't been maintained while it was open, it was probably fine.

The more sad thing about these kinds of things is that construction techniques and skills are slowly lost over time. One of the things they found with a lot of buildings in the Detroit area, is that there are no builders with the skills left. Those older structures are time capsules of methods of construction that no builder uses anymore. There's no way to build a lot of them ever again. And these massive incredible places like the one you just explored are gone to the sands of time, along with examples of those construction techniques. Man is a wasteful creature. Man is a forgetful creature.

homeless person's paradise. you could set up a whole living area in the basement, move some storage shelves in there for foodstuffs and as long as the room has its own bathroom, go unnoticed for years.

Great explore! 👍🏼 Little geek fact - when getting in the elevator it chimed once when getting in for sight impaired people “going up” When getting it out on 12th floor, it chimed two times to inform you “going down” You’ll hear it on most if not all elevators now you know 😄 🛗 It’s a worldwide standard - 1 chime = up, 2 chimes = down. 🔔 🔔

A beautiful hotel with the 80s vibe that's being destroyed in favor of more condos that will sit empty while everyone leaves the city for the suburbs. So sad! That woodwork is amazing. Pure indication of great skill mostly lost these days. Thanks for sharing. Love your videos.

Holiday in holidome concept. They were built in the 70’s to encourage middle class “staycations” the pools and dining areas were built in a separate area with rooms facing the pool areas. Many of them were themed. Can’t be many left

We have something like that here in Downtown Cleveland Oh that was just built. It's deff a more modern look, absolutely stunning inside. I never seen anything like it until I started on dashing and I have a few people that order food. Reminds me of a hotel inside of a hotel if that makes sense lol. I take my 6 yr old dashing with me and she LOVES this hotel. The very first order I ever had there we got lost. They have escalators inside too. The penthouses are HUGE!!!! I SWEAR ITS LIKE A MALL LOL. Now my daughter says instead of going on vacation we can just drive 7 min away to downtown and stay in the hotel for a weekend lol

Who would dislike these videos? They're well shot, our host presents himself as a person that respects these abandoned places (I mean he closes doors he found left open when he leaves and respects the property) and the architecture. He's always respectful of the properties he explores. This man has a great vibe and good energy, I couldn't imagine disliking his videos outside of being a troll. I mean, what's not to like? Yes, it's annoying to see how humanity wastes materials like this, building these amazing structures that just become abandoned, but his videos are always high quality and wonderfully shot and he's obviously a good man that respects these properties that he explores. My stress melts away watching his videos...

If you owned this property, would you want a bunch of homeless people living there? Alcoholics/mentally ill/dysfunctional/dangerous whatever???? You’d never get rid of them. Who’s supposed to pay maintenance, electricity, taxes, insurance etc etc? People make those remarks with good intentions, but don’t really think them through.

@@AyeCarumba221 Actually that is not true about homeless people. Did you know many got evicted from their apartment due to the COVID-19 shutdown? Right now the job market is opening up, people need a good place to stay until they get their financial situation better. I too was homeless many years ago and I never did drugs, alcohol or been in prison. I was thankful to my mother for helping me and having me stay with her.

We spent so much time staying here that they named a suite for us, the only non-aircraft related suite in the place (I remember de Havilland had a suite down the hall). I remember the staff were excellent and we enjoyed our stays at this hotel as much as we could for people who were spending weeks and months away from home at a time. Sad to see it go. Seems like a couple lifetimes ago.

Sad to see such a well-known hotel being torn down, but with Covid affecting travelers, I'm sure the developers offer was enough to close up and move on to new ventures.

It was decided to close down before Covid, but yeah. There are some good ones around the world closed due to Covid.

That opening shot of all the stuff coming out the windows up high in the hotel is a very powerful image. We used to stay in the Holiday Inns when we travelled, the layout resonates with memories of staying in them, they were good hotels, good places, good food. It's sad to see it like that, as the world changes. I hope someone has the sense to salvage the desks, chairs and even the doors can be re-used. Those ugly hall carpets are very 70's. "Breakfast in Bed, Please"... Not very specific, how do you like you eggs, Sir? Bacon or sausage with that? Jam for the toast or just butter...Thank you, Brent, for a great explore, you always find really interesting places. Stay safe.

Those carpets are definitely not from the 1970s. This hotel received a major interior renovation, possibly a gut reno, sometime in the early 2000's. I am basing this on the warm expresso wood and burgandy/ teal/beige color scheme, and the concentric circle patterned carpet on the lobby floor. ( This was a super popular textile pattern which showed up on everything from drapes to upholstery in the aughts) Now this observation is NOT an expression of my own tastes, but due to how picky and finicky the average consumer is, I doubt the hotel would of been in business for as long as it had if it had retained much of it's vintage charm on the inside.

8:45 ALWAYS try the door handle from the inside or just prop the door open before going into a room or stairwell. This can prevent you from getting trapped inside.

Great video. I checked out the reviews on Trip Advisor and you were right, excellent customer service and an award winning hotel. It's very sad that all the effort put in by the management and staff was all for nothing in the end. If the owner of the property decides to sell in the interest of money, then all those dedicated people that offered guests award winning service for so many years are left with absolutely nothing. Again great video, but very depressing. Luckily the legacy of the hotel staff can be appreciated by checking out the Trip Advisor reviews and photos that are still posted.

10:44 - as those two elevator doors closed I actually felt my pulse rate increase! You're one very brave man to have taken that elevator in an abandoned structure. Feb 2020 - I got stuck in an elevator down to my parking garage at a downtown Toronto Condo Tower & the feeling of being trapped was horrendous! This situation would be the making of a horror movie, urban explorer gets trapped inside an elevator in an abandoned building.

There is a horrible and true story of a man who got stuck in an elevator at a house in France and wasn't discovered until 6 months later! There is an episode about it on an old show called "One Step Beyond" I've always been a little weary of elevators. got stuck in one once and when I FORCED the doors open and saw concrete cinderblocks I almost fainted!

Nice video, just subscribed. I thought I recognized this hotel. I did a charter job picking up there a couple years ago. It was in a good location right off the highway and across from the mall. Sad to see so many things being demolished for condos. I love seeing these urban explorers, abandoned style videos. Have you ever explored with Bright Sun Films? They’re also from Toronto.

I absolutely hate what is happening to our country.... condos have replaced all possible character we had in our neighborhoods... free standing homes are being destroyed... people should realize how bad this is

I think it's actually extremely rare for houses to be torn down and replaced with condos in Canadian cities. Condos are generally being built on former industrial sites or replacing parking lots or low-density commercial buildings. I think actually Canadian cities would be much affordable for the average person to live in if we did start replacing low-density housing in key areas (like along mass transit lines) with medium-density condos or apartments. If the population keeps growing at the same rate in our major urban areas, our alternatives are either to create more housing within the cities, or have people commute for an hour or more from increasingly distant suburbs.

I'd like to know why cities don't convert old, yet in good structural condition hotels like these into housing centers for the homeless instead of simply demolishing them or letting them sit abandoned. Places like these go unused for years, even decades, and could provide a safe roof over the heads for hundreds of people living on the streets in urban areas

Another great place! I'm SO glad it was you and not me on that roof! I'm so afraid of heights and probably would have had to CRAWL around up there. Or better yet I would have stayed inside on a lower floor because there's no way I would have gone in that elevator.

Normally when you see the word "abandoned" you think old, decaying, by gone era etc. But when you see covid protocol signs it makes it feel surreal. Feels like this development was fast tracked given the hotel is already demolished a short few months after closing.

There was... and is again a Holiday Inn almost with the same building just of 79th St and TI-95. it was semi-abandoned for over 15 years and now they poured money into it to refurbish and open it again! You should go back if they implode it!

Oh my Lord, I have so many happy memories of staying in this hotel when I was visiting Toronto. This was the early 90s. This hotel as always been a landmark for me that I would always see it going in and out of the city.. Of course I live here now and I had no idea they were tearing it down. Its a damn shame. I think this city has enough condos in it.

What a building the lights are still on Its still In good shape Its a shame they closed but I think It closed because of the COV-19 people were not going any where just staying home .They could have used It for COV-19 care all those rooms big kitchen???

My uncle and aunt from Seattle used to come to Toronto every year for the Rogers Cup starting in the early 90s until maybe the mid-2000s, and this was the hotel they would stay in. We used to have lunch and hang out with them here too. Oh, the memories! Thanks for the flashback.

If I'm not mistaken, this was at Markham Road and 401. Drove past it for years and knew someone who stayed there in the 80s. Haven't been to Ontario in about 12 years.

On the basement and employee level there are plenty of things to load up like that green table in the hallway @ 17:55, all kinds of tables and chairs, a lot of waste paper baskets, 19:06 2 foot stools, 19:52 tiles, 21:16 nice mirror, 17:06 - 17:10 box of wooden hangers, plant pots.

Watching this all I could think about , was all the wedding receptions they probably had there . You can tell this was built in the 70’s because you can go out onto the balconies. The newer hotels you can only open the window a quarter of the way. They started doing that to stop suicides.

My wife and I would of loved to get a hold of this. We would of rented the rooms out to seniors and veterans and those with disabilities. We would of used the kitchen, etc to make money for the upkeep/bills and pay back to the community. Totally non profit.

What a great place. It still looks great. I wish they would convert that building into apartments or condos. It's huge and such a waste to just tear it down. Oh well...they would rather make tons of waste instead of reusing it. Thanks for sharing Brent. 😊❤

Sometimes its cheaper to tear down and start over then it is to re-use. Especially when the building is already 50 years old. If they waited for someone who is willing to just convert and re-use the building, that could take years and it could end up being another abandoned and rotting building that nobody wants to buy and that is more wasteful then anything. If you were the seller, you'd sell it at the first reasonable offer, especially in this economic climate.

My grandparents swore by Holiday Inn when I was a kid. Said it was affordable and safe environment for traveling families ! I visited quite a few traveling across the US in my childhood. Haven't thought about one for many years sadly! Thanks for the memories! 🤗

@@AbandonedUrbexCanada company I worked with put me and my friend up in a hotel for a month and we were having an argument about something work related and we got so pissed at each other that furniture started to fly out of the hotel room and down to the roof A few days later we both quit the job Ahh good times good times I so much miss Toronto and I want to go back but not with everything closed and nothing to do

They should have an auction where people come in and buy things they want from the hotel, before they demo it. I see, seats and glass, and railings, and all kinds of crap that could be repurposed.

Hi Brent ! What an amazing place, I get that its easier to take the elevator instead of the stairs but I have to wonder how long has it been since it was used. I wonder if workers who were tearing it down used it 🤔 I can imagine what this place was like in the early days. I remember going to Canada in the 1980s as a kid. We had a family reunion, that place we stayed at wasn't as big or nice as I imagine this place. As I told u I grew up in Vermont back in those days we didn't need a passport so it was easy to cross the border. I will never forget that trip & as I told u my family was from the French part of Canada. My mom didnt want us to speak French & I wish she had. The French stayed mostly on 1 side of the rm. 😊 I wanted to ask u if u know of St. Sebastion P.Q Canada & does it still exist? How about St.Victor De Trigue, P.Q Canada? How about St - Francois, Beauce, Quebec? The 1st was where my grandfather was from the 2nd was where my grandmother was from. The last was where other family members were from. My grandparents were married in Valleyfield, Salaberry- de- Valleyfield, Beauharnois - Salaberry, Quebec, Canada ( I did a family tree this was came up for where they were married) If they exist I would love to visit these places 😊☺ Thanks for such great videos & I can't wait till the next 🙂🤔

I worked as maintenance in a hotel for just over a year one time. It's not all that fun, especially when people call you to unplug their toilets...lol. I'm almost positive I've stayed in a Holiday Inn in the US with nearly the exact same layout. When you were walking through the pool and bar areas I had to double check where you were.

I don't think they'll turn the power out the elevator off for a while after you were there. There are a lot of cell towers and microwave repeaters on the roof still

I have stayed at this house several times. It had government rates for all the military members travelling to CFB Downsview for work, conferences, and attending DCIEM for aircrew selection. More than a few nights sitting at that bar solving the worlds problems. This starts to make a guy feel old when you see something like this. Very cool, thanks for the video.

WOW! Brent, I won an escape weekend from work to Toronto and stayed here back in 1989. Great explore, sad to see such icons demolished but I guess it's a sign of the era we're living in. Thanks for sharing and binging a happy time back from years ago. 😉👍
