Exploring an Abandoned Dry Cleaners with Everything Inside | OHIO HISTORY

Today we explored this abandoned Dry Cleaners in Dayton, Ohio. We believe Phillips Cleaners opened in 1961 based on state records but it may have been earlier because this property was build in 1937. The business closed around 2013 as the neighborhood had declined over the years. No one has paid taxes on this derelict property since 2010.

This was my grandfather's store. He sold it and retired in the late 90s/early 2000s if i remember right. So sad to see it this way.

I never knew that some people would never pick up their clothes from the cleaners. What an odd & interesting place! I have never been to a dry cleaners before; but it stands to reason that they would do a lot of button & zipper repairs. Most interesting!

It was really an interesting place. I was also surprised there were so many orders never picked up. I could’ve spent two days there taking pictures.

I wonder if the place 'suddenly' closed due to the owner passing away? To me, it seems like there is too much left behind if they knew they were going to be closing. Interesting video. I would have been lost in there for hours if not days.

A little disappointed, you didn't get close-up of the clothes, 1963-2013, styles would of been a treat. Detail, detail, details. No matter where your at. Cleaners accessories of use was nice, but clothes styles would of been nice to see also.
@OnceOccupied
@OnceOccupied 4 года назад
It’s one of those things that no matter how much time I spent in a place right after I leave I always regret not getting a picture or video or something. I should’ve got more details on the clothes!

Never seen an abandoned dry cleaners. So cool. So many people just left their clothes, strange...apparently by the look of the floor, there was alot more clothes, before vandals had their fun. Great explore. Thanks.
@OnceOccupied
@OnceOccupied 4 года назад
I thought the same thing! It was hard to tell if it was vandals or if it was just a few big stacks of clothes that were strewn around by someone. For the most part there was no graffiti or anything. It looks like it shut down about six years ago. 🙏🏼

Wow! I just came across this video. This was my first job almost 40 years ago. It would have been around 1981 or 82. I worked there for 3 days and absolutely hated it! I remember Mr Phillips interviewing me and he hired me on the spot because he knew my great uncle. He was a very nice man but the dry cleaning industry was just not my cup of tea.

I noticed the manufacturer of some of the equipment is Martin. I recall some dry cleaners in Houston in the 60s/70s advertising that they offered One Hour Martinizing. What was the difference? Did the owner have to pay a franchise fee to advertise One Hour Martinizing in addition to having bought Martin equipment? Would I be correct to assume the random buttons all came off customers' clothing?

Those are call clothes presses not industrial iron! They have pant ones and shirt ones. I worked at a dry cleaner for a bit in Florida hot low pay work! That is a shirt press by the time clock, the long flat ones are the pants, I haven’t seen the other kind
