I taught in room 306 for 8 years! I LOVED that building!!! It had so much storage and all that beautiful architecture just added to the environment! I smiled the whole time I watched this as I knew exactly where you were at many spots! Again...sad that this is what has become of this historic lace! Thank you!!!! ❤️❤️❤️
Honestly...my first thought was of a teacher and student that went there... here's both! That school is so we'll BUILT! It really should be saved one way or another.... Amazing! I install Terrazzo at schools all over the country....
I was a student at Heberle Elementary School from 1988-1994, K thru 5th grade. It was kind of eerie seeing all these locations in the building that I remember as a child being so dilapidated looking now. They shut the school down in 2007 I believe due to student overcrowding and safety concerns, the building was outdated for the increase in students. This video was a bit unsettling to see, but it was neat as well. I remember that memorial fountain just like it was yesterday. Thanks for sharing this video!!
The painted wood windows thing is about eye appeal. Cities do it all the time to make the city look less worn down even with the buildings be abandoned.
I hope that this building is utilized for some purpose. It looks solid and is a shame it is unused. I do enjoy videos of abandoned places especially places in Ohio so I hope you make more
Beautiful school. Glad they are going to do something with it. Great clarity on the camera, just slow down a bit when turning around..... makes me dizzy :) Great find. Thanks for sharing. God Bless and keep you safe.
I just watched this for the first time! I taught there from 2001-2005. It was a Cincinnati Public School. Not a Catholic School but I can understand your inference because of the way it was designed .
I’m in tears watching this. This is my old school. Went there in the 90s from Kindergarten to 8th grade until I went to Western Hills High School. Man we had so much fun. And we use to break in at night and run around in the dark playing hide go seek 😂😂😂 I miss the 90s man. Thank you so much for having the courage to go inside and explore. Heberle will be missed.
What a great old building!! All the built ins and details! Awesome fireplace, I've never seen one in a school. What was that room for? Glad to see it wasn't trashed! Hope it gets saved. Your new equipment was worth it! Thanks for a great video!!
I hope the city utilizes the building in some manner. If not, I hope that someone gets salvage rights and saves so many of the nice architectural elements such as the fireplace surround, and the large wood dividing doors. Thanks for the video.
A ray of sunshine. There are actually lumber yards that deal in exactly what you have described should be salvaged.I have worked on a demolition crew and whenever the crew does a turn-of-the-century property they definitely salvage anything these lumber yards will buy for resale. Many times local historical societies have a contact for these type of lumber yards for individuals who are restoring properties to their originality and need materials of the time era.
I THINK ALL "EXPLORERS" SHOULD HAVE WALKING STICKS, FIVE OR SIX FEET TALL, FLEXIBLE AND LIGHT WEIGHT. WHEN YOUR WALKING ON FLOORS KEEP TAPPING THE FLOORS AS YOU WALK. BESIDES BALANCE …. YOU CAN TELL A LOT FROM THE SOUND.. LIKE IF THE FLOOR MIGHT COLLAPSE, OR WEATHER IT APPEARS SOLID. A simple aid that is useful.
Beautiful old school. It's a shame that someone removed all of the radiators. A beautiful old school right next to my house was just renovated and they ripped out all of the beautiful old wood work and crystal chandeliers that were in the hallways. Now the inside of this school is plain and boring.
Homeless people are frequently mentally ill or on hard drugs...that's why there's shit on the stairs. When you're nodding on heroin or having a psychotic break, it can be tough to make it to whatever you normally use as a toilet. Glad that one dude didn't try to get belligerent. I could have done without the music, tbh. You could just speed up the video for the transition shots. Now that I've been negative, I would like to say that it was a cool video and I will watch more of your stuff.
Solid explore guys. Keep it up! I read the prices of the proposed condo units and I can't see how people with $200-$400K will buy in that area. Seems pretty optimistic....
The area is being gentrified. There are a lot of renovations going on close to there. Findley Street Market is really cool. They have really great Gyros there and A Taste of Belgium can't be beat!
I was in that school a couple of times prior to it closing, the entire place smelled like old school cafeteria food. There are also some very beautiful turn of the century home's in that area, it was a wealthy area at one time. Unfortunately people and businesses are moving further and further out, population and tax base is dwindling, regentrification process is also temporary in the area . But these places are slowly being forgotten and with the economy heading for a down turn, these treasures will slowly decay and become lost memories, beautiful school. Enjoy your videos, keep up the good work.
I’m from Youngstown. They don’t give a fuck about homeless and won’t make any money directly or indirectly from it so it ain’t gonna happen. But no one will stop you if you want to go do it anyway
I know of someone who worked on that very issue in Columbus OH. He worked on it for well over a year. He had to jump through many hoops, meet with local leaders, etc. Finally, when it looked like the deal would be made, OSU came in and bought the old school. This happened 3+ years ago and the beautiful old building still sits empty/unused.
This is so incredible thanks ! Enjoying these videos. Apart from the dirty protest on the stairs. Reminds me of a Tom cat leaving his scent dirty boy, great job tho on the style of your channel.
Cincinnati Art Works goes around OTR painting the boarded up windows to look like real windows so it doesn't look so bad. You'll see it all over downtown and OTR
That school is newer than the Middle school of the city that I live in , which is still in use today . Chalk that one up to the illegal funding of Ohio schools .
Awesome! I need to make a new intro with all of the best stuff from the other videos but it’s hard to make that a priority over making new videos. So glad you enjoyed. Welcome 🙏
Awesome video, your channel just popped up in my recommendations. You have a lot great locations on here, I just subscribed. I have been doing abandoned on my channel for about a year as well. Nothing quite as good as this, but slowly building it. Thank you for all that you do, and as always be safe out there my friends
Exploring closed old school buildings in Cincinnati it has always amazing me how the water fountains are works of art using Rookwood tiles. A fireplace? Beautiful.
Awesome video Guys 👏👏👏👏 Your video reminds me of my old elementary school. They turned it in to a historical society building. BTW remember sh-t happens lol.
So, I wonder who Joseph Heberle was. The ornate, decorative fountain in the school hallway was dedicated in his memory. And the outside sign said that the building was going to be re-developed into the "Heberle Lofts." So who was Joseph Heberle?
That sounds nothing short of amazing. If I’m in that part of the country again I’ll swing by and see if it’s falling apart enough to pull it back. As long as it doesn’t do any damage. I like to stay out of trouble
This is a legacy from depression era America....A lot of public school buildings were constructed then; look up the programs. These buildings could not be built today because of the expense. Solid framing, extensive brick and stone work, heavy duty interiors marble floors oak woodwork. These buildings are solid and can last for hundreds of years if properly maintained....
I thought this was interesting until you guys just started talking about the homeless person living inside? Hes obviously not well off. I dont see whats so funny.
Vandalism is severely impacting any kind of structures, areas, parks etc. In my neighborhood on the new playground i have to re- weld th e gate many times cos teens have kicked it off hinges broke off outside. They also like to lean on the fence baskets so it stretches out. They litter and obliterate any kind of public parks, playgrounds etc. Vandalism is the instance of evil in urban areas.
Since your teachers know how to use your language, and are not ignorant, there could only have been one teacher at this school. It says, at #4:03 "Teacher's Lounge". Who was he/she? If there were more than one, that would be "Teachers' Lounge"!
Hi guys, this was NOT a Catholic school... a Catholic school never would have had a witch or crescent moon depicted on the fireplace mantle or anywhere else as these are both occult symbols. You have to remember that "co-ed" education really didn't exist when this school was built in 1929... that's why everything was segregated by gender. Co-education didn't start until after WWII, when the large influx of children from the "Baby Boom" generation made it a more economically feasible option.
Great quality of video! Beautiful building. Hope they salvage the wood, the eagles, and that huge fireplace when they turn it into lofts. One thing--the music didn't enhance the video. In fact, it was pretty annoying. Might want to leave it out or try something different.
People are so nasty. . Like you said, why would someone go where they live and have to avoid it. Great video though! Such a shame something so beautiful can be left to rot. I hope someone revives it or takes the fireplace and fountains before someone vandalizes it all.
Is that linwood school on eastern, lol I'm from there an I remember when that school an my school McKinley came together to make that new one on stilts...
Does anyone know the name of the other school near 5th Street which another company occupies property now it was vacant for a long time and I believe torn down
Just found this video late Dec. '22. I am amazed at how much thought went into the aesthetics of bldgs. a century ago. Entrances such as this one must have been INSPIRATION TO STUDENTS!!!!
Sorry we don’t share exact locations in order to protect them. Not from other explorers as much but once it’s out online it’s only a matter of time before somebody goes and set it on fire 🔥. There are usually enough hints in a video where with some research you could find the location. Happy hunting! And be safe out there
