This is our exploration of the abandoned Robandee Market grocery store. Inside we found multiple safes, a vending machine, merchandise left behind like unopened Pepsi bottles and stuffed animals. Like and subscribe for future videos, we have many lost places to show you all! Some future videos will include ghost towns, huge abandoned banks, power plants, and lots more! We will try and show the most interesting places we can find and we hope to see you all in the next video!

Thank you for this public service. If you're local, I know some spots, but I never go in.

Sad to see. It was originally an A&P in the 70s and became an IGA/United Super. I worked there in the late 80s. There was no upstairs then. I don't recall the other stores in the front area, but there was a bar "Helen's" around the left corner (ran by a neighbor of mine) and the Mid-Continent Library was still downstairs around the right side. There was a slot-car race track on the left side also. Skateland was still open in the building down below on the right side. We went there all the time in the 70s but by the late 80s it was thug central. The United Super was on a couple early episodes of Cops, I saw some of my former co-workers on it. Edit: I recall now there was a hardware store run by a really cranky guy there on the right side by the "L" corner

I was just poking around outside there the other day. It's all mossy, and there's a defiant tree growing out of the bottom of a stair. There are still salvageable parts, but the middle bit appears to be failing beyond repair. The middle bit wants ro be a skatepark. It has a sweet loading dock drop. Keep the slabs and foundations!

My first job was there in the deli/bakery! 1990-1991. Wow. So sad.

My first job was at that IGA in 95. Crazy to see it now. Just drove by Robandee with my daughter the other day. Her first question “how are you not dead growing up around here?” 😂

Great to see. Would love to see the rest of the shopping center. There used to have a lot in that shopping center. I remember it well. Thanks for sharing footage with us.

Makes me feel just a bit better about my time spent working at a Walmart.

Wow! I worked here briefly when it was IGA, when I was 15. Funny story. I was fired for insubordination. After walking home, my mom asked me why I wasn't at work. I told her, and needless to say she wasn't having it. She drove me back to the store to apologize and ask for my job back. Lesson learned.

In the 70's you had A&P, with Green Cross Pharmacy to the right and I think a JC Penneys to the left. When you went around the corner I believe a bar was there, there was a model shop(cars, trains, airplanes), Velvet Freeze ice cream, Sears in the corner, Lorens Hair Design and then the coin laundry and dry cleaner. The floral shop was on the back side facing the houses. I think there were more but can't remember.

I went to Truman elementary school in the 60s and lived on booth. I remember when they built that shopping center. Been there 1 million times. Very sad to see.

So sad to see it that condition...I used to shop there. It was an Apple Market, and originally a Safeway.

It’s pretty sad what happened to that area surrounding the store also.

@Exploring the Abandoned I agree. I have lived here all my life (I am a mile north on James A Reed), and the whole area has gone downhill. I do not want to blame demographics but it does play a role.

@Mark C That's Right The A&P (Safeway was at 350 and Raytown Road) it was a long time ago, but I remember the coffee grinders at checkout.

Do you guys ever plan on reproducing? Or not getting cancer? Very dumb for going in there without serious hazmat gear on....have you heard of asbestos? Or toxic mold? There is no telling what you inhaled.
@exploretheabandoned
@exploretheabandoned Год назад
We have respirators for places with poor air flow or excessive mold.
@clownshow5901
@clownshow5901 Год назад
Asbestos use was very limited to not used at all by the time that place was in operation. A few minutes either way isn't going to hurt anyone, same with any mold. Now if you spent hours in there working and tearing stuff up, that's a different issue. But a walk through is not dangerous. You're in greater danger of being stabbed by some crack head then anything else.

@@clownshow5901 I would not bet my life on it. Bad stuff in the air doesn’t care how long you are there…and there are a thousand nasty bugs you can’t see with the naked eye. But it’s ok…microbiologists love it when a patient has a weird organism they’ve not seen in person before. Hooray for survival of the fittest!
