Join me and my 5-year-old son on his first ever canoe camping experience on the beautiful River Wye. We started from Symonds Yat and ran some rapids, covering approximately 14km before finishing in Redbrook. Despite some stiff headwinds, we had a wonderful time together, discovering wild plums and blackberries along the way.
Our campsite was a beauty spot right on the edge of the river, where we cooked our food over a small fire, roasted marshmallows, and enjoyed a restful night under the stars.
But this trip was more than just a fun adventure. We also made a positive impact on the environment by doing a lot of rubbish collecting along the river. Together, we managed to take out a significant amount of plastic bottles, broken glass, bags, plastics, a sock, a car tire, and even a 5m+ PVC pipe. This was one of the most rewarding aspects of our trip, and we hope to inspire others to join us in making a difference.
