Our Lady of Perpetual Help is a Municipal Heritage Property located near Wishart, Saskatchewan. This historic site includes a one-story log church built in 1909 and an adjacent cemetery.
The heritage value of this church is closely tied to the Polish settlers who arrived in the area in 1906. Initially, there were not enough Polish families to establish their own church, so they collaborated with the few Ukrainian families in the area to build a common place of worship.
As the community grew, it was decided that each group would build their own church. In 1909, construction began on Our Lady of Perpetual Help. However, by 1917, the congregation had outgrown the original building, prompting the construction of a new, larger church beside the log structure.
In the 1950s, the congregation dismantled the larger church and used its materials to build a new church in the village of Wishart. Remarkably, the original log church still stands on its original site.
The church's interior is adorned with unique features, including a large religious painting and stained glass windows, adding to its historic charm.
The cemetery is notable for its grave markers with Cyrillic characters and intricate religious ornamentation, reflecting the diverse cultural heritage of the community.
Although weekly services have ceased, an annual service continues to be held at the church and cemetery, preserving the legacy and heritage of Our Lady of Perpetual Help.
