A steep, overgrown route leads up to the Place Glacier where there are 2 mountain huts used for glaciology research and open to the public. Nico, Elena, and I used the huts as a basecamp to scramble up Mount Gardiner, attempt the ridge of Mount Oleg, and explore the glaciers in the area. This is the Cayoosh range, east of Pemberton BC.
Thanks for watching!

I enjoyed your video very much. I spent a few weeks living in that steep sloped hut and working on the glacier in 1966 or 67 for the federal govt. I was grad student at Western and had the job of a lifetime for three summers. (Much more time on two other glaciers.) I think the ice came over that rock brow and was much closer to the hut. I am now 85 and have seen so much change in our glaciers. Thanks for the views. Brian

Thanks Brian! That sounds like quite the place to spend 3 summers, definitely some interesting stories, I bet! I think you are the first person to comment on this video that has worked out of the Place Glacier cabins.

Luke, great video once again, and Nina is an inspiring adventurer as always! In general, where do you source the music for your videos? In particular, I would like to know what the music is in this video from about 5:48 to 8:25 (and a little beyond), and in the Mt. Currie video from about 5:00 to 7:47. It fits perfectly! Thanks!
@lifeofluke

Thanks dude! I spend an enormous amount of time searching for music on free music archive... it's difficult to find usable songs that I have permission to use. For future reference, all the songs are listed in the description in the order they appear.

@@lifeofluke Thanks very much! All I had to do was click "show more". My bad! I hope you will host a master class on combining the passions for videography with outdoor adventuring. I think you would have a great following among drone pilots and the general public who want to know more about refining their video skills and telling an engaging story in stunning outdoor settings, which you do so well!

Where did the wood for the fire come from, did you pack it in or did you find some by the cabins? Also how do you usually deal with that when you’re backpacking somewhere without wood?
@lifeofluke
@lifeofluke 3 года назад
There was some wood lying around up there, usually I don't have a fire at all and just cook with a camp stove

Man, stunning video work, but... I hope you guys realize advertising places like this on social media will guarantee to absolutely doom the spot... those huts are tiny, can only really accommodate a group or two. Just look at what happened to Joffree Lakes - hordes and hordes of people, kinda ruins it for everybody :(
@lifeofluke
@lifeofluke 3 года назад
Have to disagree with you here, Max. Only the most serious and invested folks are gonna make it up to Place Glacier... the "trail" is difficult to follow, overgrown, with a very challenging slippery wet log crossing the creek, most people do not want to work this hard and will not bother and skip it for some place else that is easier to access!
@Max-kw4px
@Max-kw4px 3 года назад
@@lifeofluke I really hope you're right! I'm just dumbfounded how the outdoors is so popular suddenly; for example, we used to ski on the Duffy and you would have a handful of cars at some of the parking zones - now they are overflowing, sometimes even on weekdays! It's nuts. And ski touring isn't exactly easy or safe - yet everyone's doing it! Love that people are getting outside, but sad about the total loss of solitude in so many of these areas. If you do this long enough, you'll see what I mean - 10 years from now you might regret all the posts, but perhaps not. I used to organize the university outdoors club back in the day, now I sometimes regret it haha. Anyway, stoked you guys got up there - it is so so stunning!!
