Exploring Santorini's Iconic Beauty - From Fira to Oia

In our first of three vlogs from Santorini, we visited the most popular towns Fira and Oia (with Imerovigli in between too) and their most iconic spots. An absolutely gorgeous part of Greece, it's easy to see why it's so incredibly popular.
One of our fave meals during our time in Greece were gyros. Luckily there was a store not too far from our accommodation in Santorini and conveniently located on our walk over to Fira too. Friendly owner and the food comes nice and hot off the grill.

We stayed in Karterados which is only about a 10 minute walk from Fira. We then walked all the way from Fira to Imerovigli and found a bus stop to get ourselves to Oia. We also took a bus back to Fira later that evening.

😂 there were a lot of surprises for us on the island too like the Venetian Fortress. Missing all that yogurt we were having in Greece 🇬🇷 😂

Thanks! Really, enjoyed your beautiful tour video of Santorini. Spent, the first week of November on Santorini. Less crowds and more space to walk and navigate the different villages on Santorini. Also, stayed at a really nice and clean accommodation at the village of Oia, named Fileria Suites, which cost 70 Euros per night. Hotel included a breakfast brought to your room each morning. So spoiled!

I love Santorini, I only get to see this place thru you guys and Instagram, tho. It's definitely a spot to see at sunset and sunrise, so Instagram worthy shot, lol.

We have very fond memories of Santorini. It's a very enjoyable island to wander around. Sure stuff is a bit expensive and it gets busy but the atmosphere and scenery are totally worth it 👌

Santorini is a dream archipelago for many, and it doesn't seem too crowded on the first part of your video. Love Gyros and souvlakis and everything from Greece. I can't think about any Spanish, Turkish or Greek dish that we don't like, we are obsessed with these cuisines. Wow, the views are wonderful. Peter you are always wearing sandals even on hikes hahaha, we would die walking on sandals for so long and on uneven surface. You are our walking in sandals sensei. I wonder if in winter things are substantially less crowded.. We might have to take a road trip then 😊😊

It is definitely waaay less crowded in winter. But also I've read that many places are closed and a lot of the tour operators simply don't run. You get the whole island to yourself though as long as you don't mind cooking your own food hahaha. Jandals 4 life 😂👍

It's nice to learn a bit more about Santorini and see some different views to the classic ones too. So many steps, but then I guess they're good for burning off the delicious looking gyros 😋

Hahahaha that's the secret to keeping in decent shape even with all the eating.... lots of walking 😁💪 beautiful island and it was a joy to explore. Have fond memories thinking back on this day.

I feel like after going to Venice and Rome that the Santorini crowds are pretty manageable 😂

If you ever want to get away from the crowds then I recommend taking the three times daily ferry (called by the locals "Lantza") from Ammoudi (the port below Oia) across to Thirasia/Therasia on the other side of the caldera. Thirasia is like Santorini was 30 years ago. The ferry costs €3 each way. Apparently there is also a large car/passenger ferry (referred to by the locals as the "Pantofla") runs on most days of the week. from Athinios and possibly the old port below Firá) to Thirasia. Electricity didn’t arrive until 1980 and less than about 300 people live on the island.

Ah yes! We visited Thirasia in our vlog after this one 😁 also went up Nea Kameni on the same day trip 🙂 both lovely and such nice parts of Santorini. You're totally right, way less crowded!

@@PeterandYenhello Pete and yen again, sorry to bother you one last time. I have been to a few places all over the world and I was searching my memories, to see what you both would like. I just remembered. Have you been to Egypt and Israel. I first went to Egypt in the 70s as the James bond film 'the spy who loved me' starring Roger moore was being shot there. I have a great trip, not too expensive, where you can do both countries at the same time. If you are interested, let me know because I know I think the best route which I have already more or less done. Don't worry, I don't want to pester you. Cheers from London josh.

Hahahaha Seoulman 😂 Camera can never do the place 💯 justice. It was an incredibly picturesque day and the sunset was the cherry 🍒 on top. We are missing those gyros, such an awesome quick and delicious meal 🤤 What's one meal you miss when you're traveling around?

🇬🇷 golden hours on Santorini are pretty spectacular. Watching the warm golden sun reflect from the white washed buildings 😁❤️ magical place, hahaha Greek cuisine was very tasty we had sooo many Gyros meals during our time there 😂 Have a great week too ✌️

Hi Peter and Yen, Thanks for your awesome videos! I thought I wanted to visit Santorini but have been told by some its super touristy and expensive and not to bother. Would you say this is somewhat true and you could visit some of the other islands (or towns in Santorini) instead without the crowds? Thanks :)

It is touristy especially in the more famous villages like Fira and Oia in this video which is where most people visit. But there are other places in Santorini that people don't go to anywhere near as much and are just as beautiful (see our second and third video from Santorini to check it out) 😊 Thira is meant to be what Santorini use to be like in the past, and Pyrgos and Megalochori were both very quiet and lovely too with some gorgeous views. Santorini is so unique landscape-wise being a caldera so would say it's still worth visiting if you're able to budget for it especially if you're already in Greece anyway 🙂 but yes it is pricey! We weren't even staying in popular Fira, just 10 mins walk from it but our accommodation was still $250 NZD a night which was the priciest of our 5.5 month long trip and it was a pretty average place 😅

@@PeterandYen hello Pete and yen again. It's I think the best beach on the island, plus loads of restaurants and some very peaceful hillside areas at the end of the beach, not too far to walk. From what I saw of other places to stay, aqua blue was by far the best and it's conveniently in the middle of the beach, so walking in both directions is great. Hello we always plan our own travels and occasionally we'll join a group day trip due to convenience. We find this method helps keep costs down.
