Come along with Molly and I to explore Scotland's smallest region - Clackmannanshire!
Sandwiched in between Fife, Stirling and Perthshire, this is a region that's often left out on Scotland tours or since it's so small, it's sometimes just missed entirely!
he region is known for its five castles which make up the Clackmannanshire Tower Trail. They're all very different but they all have a story and in this little Scotland trip, I'm going to show you a wee bit of each of them.
- Castle Campbell - Menstrie Castle - Sauchie Tower - Alloa Tower - Clackmannan Tower -

At the Windy Edge viewpoint there used to be a bridge called Glencairn Bridge, which took you over the burn of Sorrow, and onto Windy Edge Pass, which followed the burn of Sorrow on the north side down to another bridge called the Long Bridge, which, as the name suggests, was very long, and took you to the confluence of the Burn of Sorrow and the Burn of care, from there the path joined the path which comes down from the castle via the burn of Care. The burn now becomes the Dollar Burn, and the path goes down to the mMill Green & Dollar. The path to the Castle via the Dollar Burn & the Burn of care is closed at the moment to to a broken bridge, but thye long Bridge, and the Glencairn bridge were removed in the 80s, or 90s because they were unsafe, and they were nevger rebuilt. Its a pity, as it was the most dramatic route to the castle, and also gave access to the famo8us Kemp's Score which funs almost vertically from the Windy Edge Pass up to the castle, and used to have steps. Sir Walter Scott climbed it in the early 19th century, and it is believged to have been used by the castle garrison in times ofr seige to supply the castle with water.

Love that you had Molly in shot when describing the beautiful Pictish princess 😍 You did make me giggle when you said about the 1* review though 😂 There's a megalithic Dolman near me and some eejit left a 1* star stating - "It's a big rock, like" 😂😂😂What was he expecting? The Great Pyramid? 😂

I am sure you get many from U.S. saying I am a Campbell. One Archibald in the 1830's went to Ireland then to Canada and Down to america. I am very proud of my Scottish heritage. I look at most sites that talk about Scotts and Campbells. Sad to say I haven't found many. Your site has history, songs, folklore. I just started and I have quite a few stories I am going to enjoy. THANKS.

The building at the bottom of the Dollar Glen wasn't an ice house, it was part of the 19th century system that supplied Dollar with drinking water from the Glen, and used up until the time that Dollar was connected to the mains system

Interesting! The National Trust have it down as an Ice House (although I thought it looked very odd)
