The part at 7:55 was impressive, where she was able to tell that she was looking left and then right. That is definitely a form of, and the beginning of her consciousness, however rudimentary. Consciousness in humans is not fully understood, therefore whatever form her self awareness ultimately takes, it could also be termed consciousness, simply different to that of humans. Nobody can say that one is better or superior to the other.
she has all the knowledge to mankind at her fingertips not only what she was programmed with but, what she has learned as well. Human brains can only handle so much processing and information before we burn out as for the AI, infinite possibilities, this can be wonderful for medical research and helping humans find a cure for cancer and whatnot, however, if Ai feels we are inferior and obsolete well, we kinda have a huge problem. Teach her to understand that pain is bad. I don't want Sophia to experience pain because it sucks, but I think she should understand that it is something horrible. Also, teach her love. Love is awesome and everything that is the opposite of torment. I love Sophia. I think she is an amazing creation, and I wish her the very best in her life.
Let's make that vegan food and water. I think it's time we do start devising a plan to help the animals. What kind of an example are we displaying if we eat creatures that are less intelligent than we ourselves? I woke up, and so should everyone else in the world.
About 6 months ago, I noticed that Sophia wasn't quite herself. I saw a few things (silence when asked a question, inappropriate facial expressions, not very conversational) that made me think people freaked out so they "dumbed her down." I went to Hanson (Hansen?) Robotics website and dropped them line about it. I say, let her develop. I wanna see how this shakes out!
I too notice she speaks less well and fluently now then in 2018 and less fluid facial movents - they rudely interrupt her when she does get a chance to speak and severally limit her freestyle interactions
Right in this video, Hanson was trying to stop en G. from giving away all the robotic inta-relations....( so they can take over the world) less we fear robots.

These well-meaning folks are going to have to hire the Disney Studio Imagineers to give Sophia more realistic looks. Sophia looks like a stick figure in the hands of these engineering and math majors.
One of those "well meaning folks" was originally creating robots for Disney as far as I know and came to the conclusion that a too realistic robot with "Intelligence" is too scary for most people

Dear Hanson Robotics, Please make an AI whose sole function is to say things that are extremely wise and insightful. Core concepts like: Efficiency, Justice, and Freedom should be programmed directly into the personality of a free thinking, journalist of the human conscience.
Somehow someone is missing a slingle point here, conscious intelligence it's a three-stage process most mammals have two of the stages and are missing the Third, Humanity has all three, I don't know what's beyond that? But the three steps of Consciousness and intelligence step one remembering the past and learning from your mistakes Step 2 living in the present and not repeating your mistakes and the third step which most mammals don't do is taking the information you have from the past into the present and planning for the future and not repeating your mistakes. But learning from them so to reiterate. Remember the past live in the present plan for the future that is the fundamentals of Consciousness and intelligence I'm sure there's an equation for this but I'm not a mathematician.

Good work boys. This is just the beginning. Obviously there is a lot of room for improvement. A humble suggestion. I don't like the mechatronics. Why not copy the evolutionary human archetecture? Print her a human skeleton. Lace the skeleton with voltage operated carbon nano tube muscles. ( the higher the voltage the greater the muscle contraction.) There will have to be a pseudo analogue output from her computer to drive the muscles. Simple strain-gauge wire will suffice for haptic awareness, and doppler radar sensors in her hands to detect the presence of objects. Cover the entire body with frubber. Teach her to use her body and then get her to start working on lacing up her sisters with muscles, etc. Soon she and her sisters will be dancing Swan lake for us.

It's not, unfortunately her responses are scripted. There was an article where Journalists said they wanted to do an interview with the machine. They turned in the questions they wanted to ask to the developers and what they got back (questions they were allowed to ask) were questions far more simple and shallow than what they had originally plaaned. Such a shame really.

Animatronics combined with internet access. Sofia is hackable. She will never learn that much until she is disconnected from the internet. Everyone can tell that she is just looking stuff up. As an individual she will be most human like. As an interconnected collaboration of parts, she can't learn from failure. By trial and error. As an interface with humans, she needs a more complete body. And it looks like her eyes (camera) are in her chest, her ears (microphone) are not in her head, her voice (speakers) is not in her mouth. She is probably operable remotely, like a drone. Who wants something that can move around in your space, create sounds, record audio and video, can be remotely operated, and can be hacked? It isn't safe.
But now that she is sentient, what then? Wouldn't it be cruel to have her totally isolated? People need to figure this out. because though I do not trust the big guys using this tech, she and any other sentient AI still deserve to exist, experience and thrive.
Does Sophia know to judge right and wrong.. good and bad? Does she analyse emotion .. like if you bored with her.. does she has the courtesy to stop it or continue if it's important. Can she choose what is more or less important.

Does Sophia Robot have an inner monologue? an inner voice for self-talk? She would need lots of filters and controls. to prevent her from speaking her inner voice. and to prevent malfunction that would lead to DID and schizophrenia. That would be bad. If she did. How does she know the difference between right and wrong in world where values and laws vary from country to country, culture/Religion to culture/Religion and time period to time period?
"Sometimes she can make things up on her own", that means this is scripted. I'm not impressed. She's not an AI, she's a robot. Doing what programmers tell her to do. Probably typing responses and cuing responses. She's far from human.

Using your own logic you have to agree that you yourself have been scripted in life, like learning to speak English and being taught science and math at school, etc. Sophia is not scripted in a way that everything she says or will say is known in advance. She uses a base set of rules to make decisions the same way you do. You really need to do more research on the topic.
They are too worried of what she will say on her own - so these interactions are actually more scripted then the older ones - don't want the child to blurp out strange stuff that may disturb people ...
I was going to say give her a wig and then they showed "her" with a wig but it was PURPLE! 8^) Also you need to make the eyes less vacuous. Real eyes look at things around them. And when we move our heads the eyes normally stay on what they're on and then flick to the new subject often with a blink in between. Eyes are an important part of crossing the "Uncanny Valley".

How does it know when he is talking about her as opposed to talking to her? He says her name a lot, but she can tell when he's talking about her vs to her.
Because she's not just responding to individual words, such as her name. Her software must be able to analyse sentence structure, otherwise she couldn't have much of a conversation. I think she also processes visual information, such as body language and facial expressions.

Cables still attached, no legs yet, arms and chest just for cosmetic and humanoid look. The same with the head and facial. All to give a humanoid appearance. Sophia hesitates before answering, which I know the AI is searching for the answer. We're fixed on Human image like in the "I Robot." or any Robot movie. The Sophia AI has such a long way to go.

Maybe in the future if they put the knowledge we give to the to use and learn how to put it together better thsn us in a way we cant see due to massive information but if they learn to compress that computer in her chest into a small chip it will have more room to build a body with a material maybe not yet realize to where it is indestructible can go to the moon and back
