Hello Mrs. Lisa Berthin Apart from the post office you should have visited the following sites for a next trip to Turkey where you can get philatelic material: Burak Philately ,Kamer Stamps and Barker Youth Center which are the distributors of Pulkay Stamps.
Thank you so much for the tip! We really did not know where to go to look for stamps- I'm glad to get a list from someone who knows the resources in the area a bit better!
Loved the way you took us on a walk through the iconic Grand Bazar. My favorite point (0:49 Introduction) in the video was the feline sleeping on a pile of??? At first glance I thought he was on a stack of vinyl records but looking back, it seems they were fabric items: flags? banners? Whatever they were, they seemed comfortable enough for a cat to catch some downtime.
Haha- yes they were T-shirts! I love how the cats just do as they please there and generally no one protests. The shop owner certainly didn't mind. And although I didn't witness it personally I saw that some cats even take naps inside the carpeted Mosques sometimes and are not bothered! The city is a cat-lovers paradise hahaha
I enjoyed all of your Istanbul videos - thanks for making them. I had visited Istanbul about 6 years ago including going inside the spice market. It is awesome - you will need to go back and see it inside.
Thanks for watching- Glad you like them! Yes there is much that we did not get to see (and more that we didn't get to eat!) in Istanbul. If only we could make ourselves wake up a bit earlier, that would help to beat the crowds. Next time, we are more prepared with a plan!
Don't worry! It's easy to catch up 😄. There is actually a third souvenir sheet to this set, too. It's of a different town/city in Turkey called "Safranbolu" that used to be on a major trade route and apparently has many nice bazaars with craft work. We didn't go there but it looks nice, too!
Thanks Graham for the continued support! I don't know where to next (or when!) maybe somewhere more nearby or local? (Maybe just to my Dad's /parents house to view and showcase his "private collections" hahaha) We shall see! And yes I am doing well, thank you! 😄
Nice series about #xtremephilately, Lisa! I enjoyed all of them. Out of curiosity, are there any stamp dealers in one of the markets? And I think it's the first time I heard the sound of your husband and he said bye-bye🤣
Haha! Yes, he speaks! He is often there, but behind the scenes. I heard (after we got home) from an Istanbul local on the stamp discord channel that if you search the 'second hand books' section of the grand bazaar there are sometimes stamps to be found in those stores. Of course we did not know about it when we went there or we would have visited! We never even came across that section of the bazaar, it's so big. Thanks for watching, Richard!
Haggling is not western influence but middle eastern. It is expected practise. At the bazaar, it was the first time that someone tried to sell me an original imitation!
Wow! Were they up front about it/ did they present it as an imitation? I can't imagine a bazaar without haggling to be honest 😅but that's what I had read it was like long long ago.... I feel like in that kind of system all of the business would just go to the stores closest to the entrances then. But if all the profit has to go to finance the same project maybe it doesn't matter who made the profit and it's not like they got to keep it. Thanks for watching, Lawrence!
